Joe Mays exercised the escape clause in his Triple-A Las Vegas contract and is now a free agent.
The Dodgers have Hong-Chih Kuo and Chad Billingsley ready to join the rotation and both are better options than Mays. He should get a chance with another team, but his 1-2 record and 5.16 ERA at Triple-A Las Vegas this season isn't going to impress anyone. Wed, May 16, 2007 10:37:00 AM

Dodgers signed RHP Joe Mays to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

The 31-year-old Mays has fallen so far that he had to sign with a team that has at least eight starting pitchers ahead of him. He'll be in the rotation at Triple-A Las Vegas.

Reds announced that RHP Joe Mays, RHP Sun-Woo Kim, LHP Chris Michalak, OF Andy Abad, C Dane Sardinha and OF Dewayne Wise have opted for free agency.

Mays had a 3.07 ERA in his 10 starts for Triple-A Louisville, but he was awful for both the Twins and Reds this season. He shouldn't be taken very seriously as a rotation candidate next spring.

Joe Mays has accepted an assignment to Triple-A.

Mays was designated for assignment last week and probably figured staying with Wayne Krivsky's Reds gave him the best shot at another call up.

Reds designated RHP Joe Mays for assignment.

Mays had a 7.33 ERA anda 1.93 WHIP in four starts and three relief appearances for the Reds. He said he hasn't decided whether he'll accept the assignment to Triple-A Louisville if he clears waivers. Justin Germano could be called up to take the open rotation spot until Brandon Claussen returns.

Joe Mays is listed as the probable starter for Saturday's game in Milwaukee, but the Reds will likely waive him on Wednesday to create room on the roster for David Ross.

Mays has been horrible lately. The right-hander is 0-1 with a 9.45 ERA in the last four starts. Prospect Justin Germano could be called up from Triple-A Louisville if the Reds decide that Mays is too risky to use.

Joe Mays was pounded for eight runs and 11 hits in five innings by the Indians on Saturday.

Mays will be happy to know he's not going to see another AL team this season. The Reds figure to give him another start next week and then reevaluate their plans for him at the All-Star break.

Although he pitched well Wednesday, Joe Mays won't make his next start for the Reds until July 1.

The decision might cost Bronson Arroyo a trip to the All-Star Game. The rearranged schedule will have Arroyo starting the day before the break.

Joe Mays wasn't involved in the decision in his first start for the Reds. He allowed two runs and eight hits in six innings on Wednesday.

The performance is sure to earn him another start, probably against the Royals next week. The Reds could push him back after Monday's off day, but it'd be more fun to see him take on the team with which he amassed a 10.27 ERA in six starts earlier this season.

Joe Mays will take Brandon Claussen's spot in the rotation.

Claussen was sent to the disabled list with tendinitis in his shoulder on Saturday.

After Brandon Claussen was lit up on Friday, Reds manager Jerry Narron hinted that Joe Mays could be moved into the club's rotation.

If the Reds are trying to motivate Claussen, pulling him out of the rotation for a couple of turns wouldn't be a bad idea. Mays, though, would be a dreadful choice to replace him, even if he has allowed just one earned run in seven innings since joining Cincinnati as a reliever. The Reds got rid of their best alternative when they dumped Dave Williams.

Reds purchased the contract of RHP Joe Mays from Triple-A Louisville.

Mays should only pitch when the Reds are behind, preferably by 10 runs or more. The 30-year-old has a 10.75 ERA in six starts for the Royals before being cut last month.
Tue, Jun 6, 2006 06:00:00 PM

The Reds are planning on calling up Joe Mays and sending down Justin Germano prior to Tuesday's game.

It's a downgrade, but as an exchange of mop-up men, it might not really matter. Germano hadn't pitched in a week.
Tue, Jun 6, 2006 12:41:00 AM

Reds signed RHP Joe Mays to a minor league contract.

Reds GM Wayne Krivsky is very familiar with Mays from his days with the Twins. It's doubtful that Mays will contribute any month soon, but if he's going to reemerge as a fifth starter someday, it's far more likely to happen in the NL.

Royals released RHP Joe Mays.

Mays was designated for assignment on May 8 after going 0-4 with a 10.27 ERA in six starts.
