Astros released RHP Brad Thompson.

Thompson was signed by the Astros in June when he chose to become a free agent after the Royals designated him for assignment. He failed to make it up to the big club, posting an 8.87 ERA and 1.93 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings for Triple-A Round Rock.

Brad Thompson has elected to become a free agent.

The right-hander was designated for assignment last week after posting a 6.41 ERA over 16 relief appearances. Thompson, 28, may have a little trouble latching on with a contender, but there are plenty of desperate teams.

Royals designated RHP Brad Thompson for assignment.

Thompson was cleared in order to make room for right-hander Kanekoa Texeira. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 6.41 ERA over 16 relief appearances with the Royals.

Royals purchased the contract of RHP Brad Thompson from Triple-A Omaha.

If anything, Thompson is a less attractive bullpen option now than he was a few weeks ago. Not only did he have a 5.40 ERA for Omaha, but he wasn't even getting groundballs. He gave up 16 hits, walked one and struck out just three in 11 2/3 innings.

Royals agreed to terms with RHP Brad Thompson on a one-year minor league contract.

As a minor league free agent, Thompson was able to agree to a contract before Friday. The contract doesn't include a spot on Kansas City's 40-man roster, but he stands a pretty good chance of making the roster out of spring training, whether out of the bullpen or as a fifth starter. Thompson, 28, had a 4.36 ERA in parts of five seasons with the St. Louis, including a 4.84 ERA in 32 appearances (eight starts) in 2009.

Cardinals released RHP Brad Thompson.

Thompson would have been arbitration eligible for the first time, so the Cardinal let him go now rather than non-tendering him next month. The 28-year-old right-hander posted a 4.36 ERA in five seasons with St. Louis, including a 4.84 ERA and 34/23 K/BB ratio in 80 innings this season. He should have no problem finding another big league job as a long reliever or fifth starter.

Brad Thompson, who was handed a three-game suspension for throwing at the head of David Wright on August 5, had the punishment reduced to two games Wednesday.

Thompson was also fined an undisclosed amount and maintains his innocence. "I'm surprised," said the reliever. "I thought we had a great case on our appeal and I don't think that it's a fair suspension, but it is what it is and I'll serve it and come back in a couple days."

Brad Thompson has been suspended three games and fined an undisclosed amount for throwing at David Wright's head Wednesday.

Thompson has filed an appeal, and denied there was intent behind the pitch in a post-game interview on Wednesday. "You throw a ball like at somebody's head, especially after something happened earlier, and you expect a warning," said the reliever. "I'm not going to try to hit David Wright in the head. I'm not going to hit anybody in the head." The Mets, and the home plate umpire, saw the up-and-in fastball as retaliation for the beaning of Albert Pujols one inning earlier.

Brad Thompson surrendered five runs in 4 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Cubs.

It's just the third time in 13 games that the Cubs have scored five runs, and all of those games have come against fill-in starters: Thompson, Mike Burns and Seth McClung. Thompson's time in the rotation should come to an end now, as Kyle Lohse is due back tomorrow.

Brad Thompson gave up four runs over seven innings in a 10-5 win over the Royals on Friday night.

Thompson allowed just five hits against two walks. He actually held the Royals to two runs over the first six innings before serving up a two-run shot to Miguel Olivo in his final frame. While he didn't strike out a batter, he did what he does best -- getting groundballs -- inducing 15 of them for his second win. We don't doubt he can be successful while Kyle Lohse is on the mend, but because he depends on his defense so much, he simply can't be depended on in fantasy leagues.

Brad Thompson allowed just one unearned run in six solid innings against the Indians Saturday in Cleveland.

Thompson picked up his first win of the season by doing what he does best: throwing strikes and inducing grounders. He's not a guy we'd trust for fantasy purposes, but if he can eat innings while Kyle Lohse recovers from a forearm injury, the Cardinals will be in good shape.

Making his second start of the year, Brad Thompson yielded three runs in 4 1/3 innings Monday in a loss to the Rockies.

The Cards have been very successful in Thompson's starts throughout his career, but he's still a borderline major leaguer. The team might be better off with calling up Mitchell Boggs to start and putting Thompson back in the pen.

Brad Thompson will start for the Cardinals on Tuesday against the Reds, reports the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Thompson hasn't pitched for St. Louis since May 17. This will be his first start of the season. The Cardinals needed a starter because they pushed back both Kyle Lohse (forearm) and Joel Pineiro (back). Last year Thompson was 3-2 in six starts.

Cardinals recalled RHP Brad Thompson from Triple-A Memphis.

Thompson had a 6.75 ERA in 6 2/3 innings for the Cardinals earlier this season. He was 2-0 in three starts at Memphis. Thompson has no fantasy relevancy.
