SI.com's Jon Heyman reports that the Dodgers are considering bringing back Jeff Weaver.
Weaver, 34, was a solid swingman for the Dodgers in 2009 but posted a 6.09 ERA last season while battling through back and knee ailments. Still, he wouldn't cost much more than the league minimum and might even be willing to spend time at Triple-A if he doesn't crack the opening day roster. He's not a bad guy to have at the tail end of your roster. Thu, Feb 17, 2011 08:39:00 AM

Jeff Weaver told Dylan Hernandez of the Los Angeles Times that he wants to pitch at least one more season and would prefer to stay with the Dodgers.

That's just swell. Weaver, 34, has appeared in just 38 games this season due to injuries to his back and knee, posting a 4.99 ERA and 24/19 K/BB ratio in 39 2/3 innings. He'll probably have to settle for a spring training invite again.

Dodgers activated RHP Jeff Weaver from the 15-day disabled list.

Weaver was set to start a short rehab assignment Tuesday, but Travis Schlichting has a shoulder injury and needs a DL stint, so the Dodgers couldn't afford to be patient with Weaver. He'll resume his duties as a long reliever.

Jeff Weaver (knee) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday.

The Dodgers threw around the idea of activating Weaver this weekend, but opted to play it safe in the end. The reliever had a 5.35 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 37 innings before being diagnosed with knee tendinitis.

Jeff Weaver (knee) could be activated from the disabled list Saturday.

Weaver, who has been out since the beginning of the month, threw a simulated game Tuesday and will not require a rehab assignment. Dodgers manager Joe Torre said before Friday's game that they may activate Weaver depending on how much the bullpen was used that night, and seeing as how Carlos Monasterios went just 4 1/3 innings, it's a safe bet to assume Weaver will in fact be activated.

Jeff Weaver (knee) threw another bullpen session Thursday.

Weaver is hoping to avoid a minor league rehab assignment and the Dodgers appear likely to allow that. "I felt good after the 'pen," the right-handed reliever said after Thursday's workout. "I just have to stay away from jogging and avoid the pounding on it." He had a 5.35 ERA and a 1.46 WHIP in 37 innings of relief before coming down with knee tendinitis.

Jeff Weaver (knee) threw a successful bullpen session Sunday.

Weaver made 25 throws and reported no pain in his left knee. He's been given a cortisone shot and some anti-inflammatories, and is hoping to avoid going out on a minor league rehab assignment. "Simulated games or something like that would probably suit just fine," he said.

Dodgers placed RHP Jeff Weaver on the 15-day disabled list with left knee tendinitis.

Weaver has been awful recently, allowing seven runs over his last two appearances, so the Dodgers were probably just thrilled to get him off the active roster. The 33-year-old right-hander has a 5.35 ERA and 1.46 WHIP in 37 frames this season.

Jeff Weaver (blister) threw a scoreless inning on Sunday.

It was Weaver's first relief appearance in five days. He had been dealing with a bad blister on the middle finger of his (right) throwing hand.

Jeff Weaver left Thursday's game against the Braves before even throwing a pitch due to a blister on the middle finger of his right hand.

Weaver came in to relieve Hiroki Kuroda in the seventh inning, but was pulled during his warm-up pitches. Dodgers manager Joe Torre said that the move was strictly precautionary. It's possible that he could be available as soon as Friday.

Dodgers activated RHP Jeff Weaver from the 15-day disabled list.

Weaver had a 5.06 ERA over nine appearances before going on the disabled list with a lower back tightness on April 22. He'll return to his familiar swingman role.

After a successful simulated game on Saturday, Jeff Weaver will head to Single-A Inland Empire for a rehab appearance.

The plan had originally been for Weaver to forgo a rehab outing, but that changed, and he'll now head to Inland Empire for a day or so. Even with this detour, Weaver should be back with the Dodgers on Friday.

Jeff Weaver (back) is expected to throw a simulated game Saturday.

Weaver will throw 40-45 pitches to see how his strained back reacts, but the Dodgers are hopeful that he can return from the disabled list when eligible on May 7. It does not appear that he will need a rehab assignment before his return.

Jeff Weaver (back) played catch before Tuesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Weaver also threw off a mound before Monday night's game was rained out. He looks to be on track to return from the disabled list on May 8, the first day he is eligible. It's possible that he could still head out on a minor league rehab assignment, though Dodgers manager Joe Torre said it probably won't be necessary.

Dodgers placed RHP Jeff Weaver on the 15-day disabled list with lower back tightness.

Weaver left Wednesday's game in the eighth inning after suffering the injury. He's allowed three earned runs in 5 1/3 innings of relief this season and should return from the DL soon after he's eligible.
