Kyle Farnsworth is at this week's Winter Meetings in San Diego in hopes of finding a contract.
"I’ve still got it," said Farnsworth posted a 4.40 ERA and 18/15 K/BB ratio over 28 2/3 innings this past season between the Mets and Astros. He turns 39 in April. Chances are he'll have to settle for a minor league contract at this point in his career. Mon, Dec 8, 2014 04:01:00 PM

Kyle Farnsworth has elected free agency.

Farnsworth was outrighted off the Astros' 40-man roster on Thursday morning to clear a spot for Jose Veras and has now rejected an assignment to Triple-A. The 38-year-old had a 6.17 ERA in 11 2/3 innings with Houston but should be able to find a minor league contract.

Astros sent RHP Kyle Farnsworth outright to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Farnsworth, 38, posted a rough 6.17 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for Houston. The Astros have called up Jose Veras from the Triple-A level in a corresponding move.

Astros signed RHP Kyle Farnsworth.

It didn't take long for the free agent hurler to find new work after being released by the Mets on Wednesday. With as bad as the Astros bullpen has been, Farnsworth should quickly work his way into a setup role.

Kyle Farnsworth has elected free agency.

This, of course, is no surprise. Farnsworth was caught off guard and angry after he learned that the Mets outrighted him to Triple-A following Wednesday's game. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.18 ERA over 19 appearances this year and will attempt to catch on elsewhere.

Mets sent RHP Kyle Farnsworth outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Farnsworth told reporters Wednesday that he is "very bitter" about the move, and the veteran right-hander is fully expected to refuse the outright assignment and become a free agent. He had been serving as the Mets' closer as recently as Monday and owns a cool 3.18 ERA in 19 total appearances this year. The Mets cut him to avoid a cash payout related to a 45-day consent waiver.

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports the Mets released Kyle Farnsworth.

It's a curious move, given that Farnsworth saved a game as recently as Monday for the Mets. The right-hander had a 3.18 ERA and 1.41 WHIP in 17 innings of work, but his effectiveness had tailed off in recent weeks after a hot start. Given that he's had some success this season, the 38-year-old likely won't be out of a job for too long.

Kyle Farnsworth pitched a scoreless ninth for a save in a two-run game against the Yankees on Monday.

Farnsworth walked Derek Jeter to start things and then caught a break on Mark Teixeira's shot to right with one out. Between Teixeira being gimpy and Curtis Granderson getting a perfect bounce off the wall, Teixeira had to be held out at first. Brian McCann came up next and hit a hard shot, but Lucas Duda gloved it and turned it into a double play that wouldn't have materialized had the runner been on second. So, Farnsworth escaped, but he did nothing to inspire much confidence.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Kyle Farnsworth is still the team's closer.

Farnsworth blew his first save of the season Saturday and has allowed four runs over his last three appearances. However, the veteran reliever has pitched decently overall (3.55 ERA) and the Mets don't really have any other great options. Obviously, his leash is pretty short.

Kyle Farnsworth blew his first save of the season in the Mets' loss to the Rockies on Saturday.

Farnsworth was called on in the bottom of the ninth inning to protect New York's one-run lead and failed at the task. He gave up a leadoff single to Troy Tulowitzki and a walkoff two-run blast to Charlie Culberson. The Mets' woes at closer have no end in sight.

Kyle Farnsworth gave up a run in the ninth on Wednesday, but he still picked up his second save against the Cardinals.

Matt Carpenter tried to score the game-tying run on Daniel Descalso's double, but was thrown out at the plate, giving Farnsworth new life. Farnsworth then got Matt Holliday to fly out to end it. While it goes down as a save, it wouldn't make us feel a whole lot better about owning Farnsworth. Expect him to remain pretty shaky.

Kyle Farnsworth was spotted hunched over in the tunnel to the clubhouse and shaking his forearm after converting a save Monday night against the Cardinals, but the Mets say that he is "fine."

Farnsworth acknowledged after the game that he was shaking his forearm, but he merely chalked it up to him being "old." It doesn't sound like a big deal, but it wouldn't be surprising if he gets a night off Tuesday.

Kyle Farnsworth picked up a save Monday with a scoreless ninth against the Cardinals.

Farnsworth gave up a single, but the runner was erased on a double play, and he was able to finish up the Mets' shutout. It was the first save of the year for the newly installed Mets closer.

Mets manager Terry Collins said Sunday that Kyle Farnsworth has supplanted Jose Valverde as the team's new closer.

Farnsworth has pitched well for the Mets in the early going, allowing just one run over his first 7 1/3 relief innings. However, his velocity has been declining for a few years now and he hasn't had an effective full season since 2011. It's a move that's unlikely to work out, but the Mets don't have any great options.
Sun, Apr 20, 2014 10:14:00 AM

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Kyle Farnsworth from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Farnsworth failed to crack the Opening Day bullpen after an unimpressive spring, but he winds up getting called up before the Triple-A season starter. He'll work the middle innings.
