According to Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News, the Yankees will decline Damaso Marte's $4 million club option for 2012.
It was pretty much a given, anyway. Marte, now 36 years old, didn't throw a pitch in the major leagues last season following shoulder surgery. Wed, Oct 19, 2011 03:29:00 PM

Damaso Marte suffered a setback in his rehab from shoulder surgery.

Marte was knocked around for six runs over two-thirds of an inning in his first minor league rehab appearance with the GCL Yankees last Thursday. The southpaw was already a longshot to help the Yankees this season, but this pretty much seals it.

Damaso Marte (shoulder) was blasted for six runs over two-thirds of an inning Thursday in his first minor league rehab appearance with the Gulf Coast League Yankees.

Needless to say, he didn't fare nearly as well as fellow left-hander Pedro Feliciano. Marte threw just 22 pitches on the afternoon, but managed to give up six hits and throw a wild pitch. The southpaw underwent surgery last October to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder and doesn't appear to be anywhere near major-league ready.

Damaso Marte (shoulder) threw a bullpen session Wednesday in Tampa.

While Pedro Feliciano was shut down with more soreness Wednesday, at least Marte is making some progress following shoulder surgery. However, there's no current timetable for his return.

Damaso Marte (shoulder) has begun playing catch and still hopes to pitch again this season.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said just after the season started that Marte would likely be sidelined all year after undergoing shoulder surgery back in October of 2010. But, Marte has plans to return sometime after the All-Star break. It remains to be seen if he can be effective less than a year after surgery, but with the Yankees getting little help from the left side of their bullpen, they're surely welcome Marte back if he's ready.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said Thursday that Damaso Marte (shoulder) is likely to miss all of 2011.

Marte underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder back in October of 2010 and began a throwing program just last month. If he returns this season, it won't be until September or October.

Yankees placed LHP Damaso Marte on the 60-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, recovering from shoulder surgery.

Marte underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in October and just recently began playing catch. He won't be a factor until much later in the season.

Damaso Marte (shoulder) has resumed playing catch.

Marte is slowly working his way back from October surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder. The 36-year-old southpaw hopes to contribute at some point later this summer.

Damaso Marte (shoulder surgery) is hoping to be available by the All-Star break.

Marte underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum in his throwing shoulder in October and just recently arrived at Yankees camp to begin a light throwing program. A mid-July return sounds about right.

Chad Jennings of The Journal News suspects that the Yankees may part ways with Damaso Marte this winter.

Marte has appeared in only 51 games over the last two seasons because of injuries and underwent surgery last week for a torn labrum. He won't be available to pitch until after the All-Star next year and he has a 2012 option that almost certainly isn't going to be exercised. The Yanks may as well cut ties with the lefty reliever this offseason and let him find a gig elsewhere.

Damaso Marte had labrum surgery Friday and won't pitch again until after the 2011 All-Star break.

Marte was concerned that the injury would end his career, but it appears as though that won't be the case. "It's hard when you feel something inside and sometimes they don't find out what's the problem," Marte said. "Right now, we know what we have and the labrum is very cut. But now they fix it, and I feel happy because I know I can pitch maybe next year."

Damaso Marte will likely undergo surgery on his troublesome left shoulder, GM Brian Cashman said Monday.

Surgery initially appeared likely early last month, but Marte opted to keep rehabbing in the hopes of helping the Yankees in the postseason. Since he's still not progressing, he's been officially shut down now.

Yankees manager Joe Girardi said that Damaso Marte (shoulder) will "probably not" return this season.

It's not a surprise. Marte recently suffered a setback in his rehab and is now likely to undergo shoulder surgery. If he does, there's a chance he'll have to miss a significant portion of the 2011 season.

Damaso Marte is likely to need surgery to repair his injured shoulder.

A decision will be made in about two weeks. Marte has dealt with shoulder problems for a good chunk of each of the last two seasons, so this comes as no surprise. He would likely be knocked out for 2011 if he goes under the knife, though it will depend on the type of surgery and the extent of the damage.

Yankees moved LHP Damaso Marte (shoulder) to the 60-day disabled list.

Marte hasn't pitched since July 7, so he'll still be eligible to come off the DL soon. That won't happen, though, as he recently had a setback with his shoulder injury that has his season in doubt.
