Jose Fernandez is reportedly back in the U.S. looking for work after six years in Japan.

Fernandez, 34, hit .293/.365/.519 with 159 homers in 2,886 at-bats in Japan. He finished last season at .301/.368/.475. Since he doesn't have much defensive value as a corner infielder, it's likely that he'll have to settle for a minor league deal.

The Pirates are in negotiations to sell the contract of non-roster third baseman Jose Fernandez to a Japanese squad.

Fernandez, signed to a minor league contract in January, has hit .222 with two homers this spring.
