Ryan Doumit hit his first homer of the season Monday in the win over the Brewers.
It came off a guy who should be in A-ball in Wei-Chung Wang. Still, he'll take it. He's just 11-for-47 this year, as he's struggled to adapt to having such a limited role for the first time in his career. May 19 - 11:07 PM

Ryan Doumit (finger) expects to return to action on Wednesday.

Doumit gave the Braves a bit of a scare after he took a foul tip off his right hand while catching Sunday, but X-rays came back negative. Even if he needs an extra day or two, he should be fine.

X-rays on Ryan Doumit's right middle finger have come back clean.

Doumit was injured on a foul tip during Sunday's game, but he's avoided any broken bones. He should return to game action later this week.
Mar 17 - 9:04 AM

Ryan Doumit has been diagnosed with a right middle finger contusion.

However, he'll undergo precautionary X-rays before officially being cleared of a possible fracture. Doumit was injured on a foul tip during Sunday's game.
Mar 16 - 2:39 PM

Ryan Doumit left Sunday's game against the Yankees after taking a foul tip off his right hand.

It didn't look good, as Doumit went straight to the dugout after it happened. The Braves should provide an update on his status before long.
Mar 16 - 1:49 PM

Ryan Doumit confirmed upon his arrival to Braves camp on Friday that he is willing to catch if necessary.

With Evan Gattis firmly entrenched as the Braves starting backstop and Gerald Laird a capable backup, there shouldn't be many opportunities for Doumit to get behind the dish barring injury. He'll see most of his time in the outfield and as a backup behind Freddie Freeman at first base.

Ryan Doumit's agent made it clear Sunday that the comment made by Brian Dozier on his client "not catching anymore" was erroneous.

After suffering a concussion in August, Doumit didn't catch another game for the remainder of the season. He appears still willing to catch though, and will serve as a backup to starter Evan Gattis as well as providing depth at first base and in the corner outfield for the Braves.
Jan 26 - 5:41 PM

Former teammate Brian Dozier told St. Paul Pioneer Press reporter Mike Berardino that Ryan Doumit is "not catching anymore" after "talking it over with his family."

Doumit suffered a concussion in August and didn't catch a single game for the Twins after returning. The Twins dealt the 32-year-old to the Braves in exchange for Sean Gilmartin last month. Doumit will serve as a backup at the first base and corner outfield positions in Atlanta.
Jan 25 - 11:22 PM

Braves acquired C/OF Ryan Doumit from the Twins for LHP Sean Gilmartin.

Atlanta will use Doumit as a third catcher, backup outfielder/first baseman and bench bat. In accepting the trade, the Braves agreed to assume all of Doumit's $3.5 million commitment next season. Doumit limped to a .247/.314/.396 slash line while dealing with concussion issues in the latter stages of 2013. Doumit is one of the game's worst defensive backstops. Atlanta is banking on the return of his bat, which collected a sizzling .283/.330/.466 slash line with 26 homers and 105 RBI over 764 plate appearances between 2011-'12.

The Braves are close to acquiring Ryan Doumit from the Twins, according to Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan.

No word yet on Minnesota's return. Doumit swings a solid bat, is signed for reasonable money, and can handle both corner outfield positions and first base defensively, in addition to catcher. The bad news is that he's horrific in the field no matter where you put him and fell to a .247/.314/.396 slash line in 2013, unacceptable for a no-defense bat. The 32-year-old will back up Evan Gattis in Atlanta.

Ryan Doumit went 2-for-4 with a home run and two runs scored against the Tigers on Tuesday.

Doumit scored both of the Twins' runs in the game, coming in on a Chris Parmelee single in the second inning before blasting his 14th home run of the season in the seventh. The 32-year-old now has 54 RBI and is batting .245/.312/.400 on the season.

The Twins will not use Ryan Doumit at catcher anymore this season.

He actually hasn't caught a single game since coming off the concussion DL on August 16. Doumit said that his previous concussion was "100 percent a factor" in the decision not to use him behind the plate anymore in 2013. "At this point, it is not worth getting back there and taking another one and spend a whole offseason trying to recover," Doumit added. "It’s the safe route." With Joe Mauer also dealing with post-concussion issues, Josmil Pinto will receive the bulk of the starts at catcher down the stretch.

Twins activated C/OF Ryan Doumit from the 7-day disabled list.

Doumit wound up missing just one day more than a minimum with concussion-related symptoms. The 32-year-old returns to a .244/.310/.389 batting line with nine homers and 44 RBI this season.

Ryan Doumit has passed a concussion test and could be activated from the disabled list on Friday.

Doumit passed his ImPACT concussion test on Thursday, but the Twins still need to get Major League Baseball's approval before he's reinstated from the DL. "Everything is pointing to an activation in the next day or two," GM Terry Ryan said Thursday. "But it'll probably be tomorrow."

Twins general manager Terry Ryan anticipates Ryan Doumit (concussion) being activated from the 7-day disabled list on Thursday or Friday, barring any setbacks.

Doumit is eligible to return as soon as Thursday, though it seems the Twins may give him an extra day. The 32-year-old is batting .244/.310/.389 with nine home runs and 44 RBI in 99 games this season.
