Angels signed RHP Kip Wells to a minor league contract.
Wells went unsigned this offseason after posting a 4.58 ERA in 37 1/3 innings for the Padres last season. The Angels are taking a flier on Wells as starting rotation depth with Jered Weaver (elbow) expected to miss 4-6 weeks. Apr 13 - 9:34 AM

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, free agent Kip Wells threw in front of Phillies "people" on Tuesday.

Heyman says Wells showed a "good breaking ball [and] changeup." But it's not clear whether the Phillies are going to make a formal offer. Wells, who turns 36 years old in April, posted an ugly 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio in 37 1/3 innings last season for the Padres.

Evan Drellich of MLB.com reports that free agent right-hander Kip Wells threw a bullpen session for the Mariners on Wednesday.

Wells, who will turn 36 in April, had a 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings with the Padres last season. The Mets expressed interest in him earlier this winter, but he'll almost certainly have to settle for a minor league pact.

Evan Drellich of MLB.com reports that the Mets are among three teams interested in free agent right-hander Kip Wells.

Wells, who will turn 36 in April, had a 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings with the Padres last season. He'll almost certainly have to settle for a minor league deal with a spring training invite.

Padres sent RHP Kip Wells outright to Triple-A Tucson.

Wells could have refused the assignment, but he's not going to find a better situation. The veteran righty is far from a guarantee to return later this season.

Padres designated RHP Kip Wells for assignment.

Wells didn't appear worthy of a major league roster spot during his time with the Padres, posting an ugly 4.58 ERA and 19/20 K/BB ratio over 37 1/3 innings. Cory Burns was called up from the minors to take his place on the active roster.

Kip Wells allowed five runs on five hits, four walks and two home runs in 4 1/3 innings of Wednesday's loss to the Reds.

Wells struck out just two, and served up first-inning homers to Zack Cozart and Ryan Ludwick. Both the non-quality start and sub-five inning appearance were his third in four outings. He could be soon meeting the same fate as Jeff Suppan. As it is, Wells will bring a 4.58 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 19/20 K/BB ratio into his Monday home start against the Padres.

Kip Wells pitched a solid ballgame in Friday’s victory over the Marlins, allowing two runs on five hits over six strong frames.

Wells fanned four while walking two on the evening. Jose Reyes tripled home a run in the fourth inning, then came around to score on a single from Carlos Lee, but that was the extent of the Marlins offense against him. While he’s a very shaky option in fantasy leagues, the 35-year-old journeyman has produced relatively solid results for the Padres, posting a 2-3 record and 3.82 ERA over his first six starts. He’ll look to keep the ball rolling when he does battle against the Reds in Cincinnati on Wednesday.

The Padres have announced that Kip Wells will start on Monday against the Astros.

Ross Ohlendorf will follow Wells in the rotation and pitch on Tuesday. While neither are high quality options in mixed leagues, they surely have value in NL-only formats, especially when pitching at spacious PETCO park.

Kip Wells scattered six hits across seven scoreless innings of Sunday's 2-0 win in Coors Field.

Yes, making just his second start since 2009, the 35-year-old Wells somehow managed to throw seven scoreless frames in Colorado. Along the way, he struck out two and walked two. Making half his starts in pitcher-friendly Petco Park, there's little reason not to take a flier on Wells in deeper NL-only leagues.

Kip Wells will start Sunday against the Rockies.

Wells was called up from the minors this week and allowed five runs (two earned) over five innings Tuesday against the Astros. With Andrew Cashner now in the rotation, Ross Ohlendorf will shift to the bullpen.

Kip Wells allowed five runs (two earned) on seven hits over his five innings Tuesday against the Astros.

Wells walked three and struck out two in his first major league start since 2009. A critical throwing error by Wells himself in the fourth inning led to three unearned runs. He's always struggled with keeping the ball in the yard, and this outing was no exception as Jed Lowrie and J.D. Martinez each took him deep. The veteran righty carries no fantasy value.

Padres purchased the contract of RHP Kip Wells from Triple-A Tucson.

Wells will make a spot start Tuesday against the Astros. The 35-year-old hasn't appeared in a big league game since the 2009 season and has registered an ugly 1.74 WHIP across 38 innings this year at the Triple-A level. He should be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Padres signed RHP Kip Wells to a minor league contract.

Wells was released by the White Sox in April after failing to make an impression at extended spring training. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2009 and is doubtful to make the climb with the Padres.

White Sox released RHP Kip Wells.

Wells signed a minor league deal with the White Sox two weeks ago and was in extended spring training, but the two sides have decided to go their separate ways. The 34-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the majors since 2009 as a member of the Reds.
