Ramon Ortiz (elbow) has resumed a throwing program.
Ortiz suffered a partial tear of his elbow ligament in June, but managed to avoid Tommy John surgery. The Blue Jays have already ruled him out for the remainder of the season, but he has a chance to pitch again in 2014. Sun, Aug 11, 2013 04:26:00 PM

Blue Jays transferred RHP Ramon Ortiz from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move was made in order to clear room on the 40-man roster for the return of Jose Reyes. Ortiz remains out indefinitely with inflammation in his pitching elbow.

An MRI on Ramon Ortiz's right elbow did not reveal a tear.

It's a surprise, given Ortiz's reaction after suffering the injury Sunday. He'll be re-evaluated after the swelling subsides, but it sounds like his career isn't over just yet.

Blue Jays placed RHP Ramon Ortiz on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 3, with a right elbow strain.

Ortiz injured his elbow during Sunday's game and is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. He turned 40 years old in May, so if it's a serious injury, there's a real chance that his career will be over.

Ramon Ortiz will undergo an MRI on his right elbow Monday.

Ortiz left Sunday's game with what could be a potentially career-threatening injury. The 40-year-old right-hander was making his fourth spot start of the year after being DFA'd earlier in the week. His future with the Blue Jays is uncertain.

Ramon Ortiz left Sunday's game with an apparent elbow injury.

The full extent of the injury isn't yet known, but this has the potential to be a serious setback. Ortiz allowed four runs on five hits over two innings before exiting. The Blue Jays should provide an update on his status after the game.

Blue Jays sent RHP Ramon Ortiz outright to Triple-A Buffalo.

Ortiz was designated for assignment earlier this week after he posted an ugly 5.01 ERA and 1.67 WHIP in 23 1/3 innings with the Blue Jays. There were no takers on waivers, so the veteran right-hander will remain with the organization.

Blue Jays designated RHP Ramon Ortiz for assignment.

Ramon Ortiz allowed one run over seven innings as the Blue Jays beat the Giants on Wednesday.

Ortiz scattered six hits and a walk in his seven innings, striking out just one. The right-hander has turned in two straight good outings, but there's not a lot of reason to think his good luck will continue -- and even if it does, he offers little for fantasy owners. He'll start next against the Rays next week.

Ramon Ortiz will start Wednesday against the Giants.

He'll start in place of Brandon Morrow, who has been pushed back to Saturday. Ortiz tossed five innings of one-run ball Friday against the Red Sox, but he shouldn't be trusted in fantasy leagues.

Ramon Ortiz tossed five innings of one-run ball Friday in a loss to the Red Sox.

While Ortiz took the loss, the Blue Jays couldn't have asked for much more under the circumstances. The 40-year-old right-hander gave up five hits and five walks, but an RBI double by Will Middlebrooks was all the offense the Red Sox could muster against him. It's not clear if Ortiz will get another start, but he shouldn't be a consideration in fantasy leagues.

Ramon Ortiz is tentatively scheduled to start Friday against the Red Sox.

The Blue Jays need a spot-starter since Brandon Morrow has been pushed back to Sunday due to a stiff neck. Ortiz, 40, is not an option in fantasy leagues.

It's desperation time in Toronto. Ortiz was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays just a couple of weeks ago but is back in the majors again to provide relief depth.
