Buddy Carlyle is likely out for the season after having surgery to repair a labrum issue in his hip.
Carlyle went on the disabled list back in mid-May with back spasms, but the hip became a bigger concern. The veteran reliever will be a free agent after the season and will turn 38 in December. Jul 12 - 12:09 PM

Mets transferred RHP Buddy Carlyle from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

The move clears space for Jenrry Mejia's return from suspension. Carlyle still isn't throwing as he works his way back from back and hip issues.
Jul 7 - 6:15 PM

Buddy Carlyle (back, hip) has yet to resume throwing.

Carlyle has been out since mid-May with back spasms and is also nursing a hip ailment. There's no timetable for the reliever's return.
Jun 23 - 10:03 PM

Mets placed RHP Buddy Carlyle on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back injury.

Carlyle injured his back in a relief appearance on Monday night. It's not yet clear how long he might be out. Jack Leathersich is taking the vacant bullpen spot.
May 13 - 5:33 PM

Buddy Carlyle (back) is headed to the disabled list.

Carlyle had to leave an appearance Monday after experiencing stiffness in his lower back and hadn't shown much improvement over the last two days. Relief depth will probably be on the way from Triple-A Las Vegas.
May 13 - 5:04 PM

Buddy Carlyle had to leave an appearance on Monday with lower back stiffness.

He can probably safely be considered day-to-day. Carlyle pitched one-third of a scoreless inning before exiting and holds a 5.63 ERA for the season.
May 11 - 11:26 PM

Buddy Carlyle recorded a save Monday by retiring the final two hitters of the game in a win over the Nationals.

With Jenrry Mejia (elbow) unavailable, Jerry Blevins got a flyout to start the night before handing it off to Carlyle, who got two groundouts to end it. It was the first career save for the 37-year-old, but the only reason he was used instead of Jeurys Familia is because Familia had already pitched earlier in the game.
Apr 6 - 7:33 PM

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Buddy Carlyle from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carlyle posted a 1.93 ERA over 10 appearances this spring, which was good enough to win a spot in the Opening Day bullpen. The 37-year-old had a 1.45 ERA and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 31 innings with the Mets last season.
Apr 5 - 11:17 PM

Buddy Carlyle is up to 5 1/3 scoreless innings this spring after retiring all three Cardinals he faced Friday.

Besides Dillon Gee, Carlyle would seem to be the other big beneficiary of Zack Wheeler's injury, as he could now slide into Gee's spot in the pen. It's not a lock yet, but he's in good position.
Mar 20 - 4:16 PM

Mets signed RHP Buddy Carlyle to a minor league contract.

He received an invite to spring training. The 36-year-old hurler posted a 1.45 ERA and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 31 innings with the Mets last season, but he wasn't able to find a major league contract on the open market. Having logged a 5.58 MLB ERA prior to 2014, that development wasn't terribly surprising.
Jan 5 - 4:06 PM

Mets sent RHP Buddy Carlyle outright to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Carlyle, 36, was terrific in his time with the Mets this season, posting a 1.45 ERA and 28/5 K/BB ratio over 31 innings. He can elect free agency if he wants.

Carlyle was sent outright to Triple-A earlier in the week, but finds himself quickly back with the Mets. The 36-year-old hurler owns a 1.29 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio over seven innings with the Mets this season. He'll function in middle relief.

Mets designated RHP Buddy Carlyle for assignment.

The 36-year-old did a nice job in his limited time with the Mets, allowing just one run over seven innings (1.29 ERA) while posting a 1.00 WHIP and 7/3 K/BB ratio. It's possible that he could generate interest on waivers from a team looking for bullpen depth.

Carlyle tossed 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings for the Mets earlier this season. He'll be used in low-leverage situations.
