Jeff DaVanon went 2-for-5 in his debut for Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.
DaVanon was a nice pickup for the White Sox, though he's probably not going to get a look unless the White Sox decide they don't have the at-bats available to make it worth carrying both Alexei Ramirez and Carlos Quentin. Someone needs to tell Ozzie Guillen that he's just like Darin Erstad, only if Erstad could still hit a little. Sat, Apr 5, 2008 03:50:00 AM

Padres released outfielder Jeff DaVanon and first baseman Robert Fick.

DaVanon still hasn't disapled any power since shoulder surgery, so the Padres chose to cut him despite a .450 OBP in 31 at-bats. This clears the way for either Chase Headley or Paul McAnulty to make the team. It would also seem to make it more likely that they'll carry Rule-5 pick Callix Crabbe.

Jeff DaVanon reached all four times he was up Wednesday, going 2-for-2 with two walks.

DaVanon is batting .333 with four walks in 18 at-bats. Barring a late-spring acquisition, he figures to make the Padres as a reserve outfielder. Still, fantasy value could be hard to come by.

The Padres have agreed to terms with outfielder Jeff DaVanon on a minor league contract, according to the San Diego Union Tribune.

With Jim Edmonds set to start in center field for the Padres, DaVanon figures to be at most a bench bat and could begin the season at Triple-A.

Athletics purchased the contract of outfielder Jeff DaVanon from Triple-A Sacramento.

DaVanon hit .326/.442/.419 in 43 at-bats for Sacramento. If his shoulder is healthy, he could be a nice asset off the bench for the A's. Still, there's little reason to pick him up in AL-only leagues just yet.

Athletics signed veteran outfielder Jeff DaVanon and assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

DaVanon, who was drafted by the A's in 1995 but traded as a minor leaguer, was released Aug. 4 by the Diamondbacks. He could get the call to the majors in September when the rosters expand.

Jeff DaVanon has been designated for assignment by the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The club needed room after grabbing Jeff Cirillo on waivers from Minnesota on Friday. DaVanon had struggled to a .154 mark since being activated last month.

Jeff DaVanon started in right field and batted leadoff in his first game back from the disabled list on Tuesday.

"I know on this team I'm more of a setup guy than a hit-the-long-ball kind of guy," DaVanon said. "I try to take as many pitches and get as deep in the counts as possible so that when I get up here I can do the same things." DaVanon should have a little value in NL-only leagues, but after watching him throw during Tuesday's game one has to question if his balky shoulder is completely healed.

Diamondbacks activated outfielder Jeff DaVanon from the 60-day disabled list.

DaVanon should have some value in NL-only leagues if he can stay healthy. How much depends on whether Conor Jackson sees considerable time in the outfield or just plays there once or twice per week. DaVanon hit .290 with five homers and 10 steals in 221 at-bats last season.

"He’s been swinging the bat real well," Arizona manager Bob Melvin said. "I don’t know if he’s 100 percent comfortable throwing yet." DaVanon should return early next week.

Jeff DaVanon (shoulder, ankle) went 2-for-4 with a triple in his first game at Single-A Visalia on Thursday.

Jeff DaVanon (shoulder, ankle) threw Tuesday for the first time in five days.

DaVanon has been taking batting practice from both sides of the plate the past couple weeks, but throwing remains a problem. It is beginning to look doubtful he will start a minor league rehab assignment prior to the All-Star break.
