Jon Garland allowed three runs in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cardinals.

Garland has now allowed three runs or fewer in six out of his seven starts this season. Of course, he has a mediocre 4.83 ERA to show for it and has fanned only 22 batters in 41 innings. The veteran right-hander is doing fine as an innings-eater for Colorado, but he shouldn't be a consideration in fantasy leagues.

Garland has pitched at least six innings in all of his starts and has been a nice surprise for the Rockies thus far. He allowed eight hits and two walks but had just four strikeouts. Garland has a 4.65 ERA and 1.39 WHIP this season.

Garland scattered six hits and didn't walk a batter. He also struck out six and induced 12 ground balls. The veteran right-hander owns a 3.32 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through his first three starts this season and has gone six innings or more in all of them. While he's not a recommended option in mixed leagues, he has been a nice surprise for the Rockies thus far.

Jon Garland was scheduled to make the start for Colorado and Jeremy Hefner was supposed to be on the bump for New York. A makeup date has not been set.

Rockies signed RHP Jon Garland.

The financial terms still aren't available, but it's a major league deal. Garland will open the season as the Rockies' fifth starter after posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 12 innings this spring. Look for him to serve as a stop gap until Drew Pomeranz is ready for a spot in the major league rotation.

Garland was released by the Mariners Saturday despite posting a 2.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP over 12 innings this spring. It's not clear if it will be a major or minor league deal, but it seems likely that the Rox have guaranteed him a spot in the rotation. Garland doesn't get a ton of ground balls or miss bats, so the odds are pretty good that this signing won't end well.

While he doesn't have another deal lined up already, Jon Garland is reportedly already drawing interest from multiple teams.

Garland is expected to opt out of his deal with the Mariners now that he's been told there was no spot available for him on the roster. He'll likely find someone willing to give him a spot at the back end of their rotation, however his poor ability to record strikeouts will severely limit any fantasy value he may have.

Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik indicated Friday that the Mariners cannot commit a rotation spot, or a roster spot, to Jon Garland at this time.

It's an unfortunate blow for the veteran right-hander, who has compiled a solid 2.25 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 4/5 K/BB ratio over 12 innings this spring. He has an opt-out clause in his deal if he doesn't make the Opening Day roster, which he is expected to exercise. This all suggests that the Mariners may want to go with two of their youngsters for the final two spots in their starting rotation.

He allowed five hits -- including two solo homers -- while walking one and striking out three. Garland had been lit up against the Netherlands his previous time out, but he now has a 2.25 ERA over 12 Cactus League innings and is very much in the race for a starting job with the Mariners. His 4/5 K/BB ratio tells you about all you need to know, however.

The Seattle Times' Geoff Baker projects Jon Garland and Blake Beavan to grab the final two spots in the Mariners' rotation.

That would mean Erasmo Ramirez would begin the season at Triple-A Tacoma. Beavan's inclusion is not a surprise, but Garland's is, as most figured he would just be around as organizational depth after missing most of the last two years with shoulder woes. Baker notes that Garland chose to sign with the M's over the Indians, and he thinks manager Eric Wedge probably assured him a spot on the staff as long as he was healthy and effective, which he has been with a 1.50 ERA over three starts. There's a chance Garland could slide into a long relief role and leave a rotation spot for Ramirez, who obviously has way more upside and is unscored upon this spring. Ramirez could also wind up beating up Beavan for a spot.

The 33-year-old right-hander didn't pitch professionally in the 2012 season after posting a 4.33 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 54 innings before undergoing rotator cuff surgery in 2011.

Churchill says Garland, who did not pitch professionally in 2012, looks "decent." The 33-year-old posted a 4.33 ERA and 1.39 WHIP over 54 innings with the Dodgers in 2011 before undergoing right rotator cuff surgery. He is surely going to have to accept a minor league contract.
