Josh Beckett (groin) threw on flat ground prior to Tuesday's game.
He did so without discomfort, something he was unable to do over the weekend. Beckett will throw off the mound soon before testing out his groin by running. The Dodgers haven't set a timetable for his return, but early June seems likely if all goes well. May 21 - 10:11 PM

Date:

Dodgers placed RHP Josh Beckett on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 14, with a left groin strain.

Manager Don Mattingly said after Beckett's start Monday that the groin ailment was minor, but the Dodgers will play it safe. He seems likely to be activated when eligible or shortly after. Matthew Magill seems likely to get a start in Beckett's place, and Ted Lilly (rib cage) could be ready next week.
May 15 - 6:22 PM

Dodgers manager Don Mattingly said that Josh Beckett left Monday's start after three innings in part because he slightly strained his right groin muscle.

Beckett suffered the injury when he covered first base on a ground out in the third inning. While he insists that he's "healthy enough to pitch," the Dodgers could place him on the disabled list to make room for Zack Greinke's return. The veteran right-hander is 0-5 with a 5.19 ERA through eight starts this season.
May 14 - 8:39 AM

Josh Beckett dropped a decision to the Nationals after giving up four runs -- two earned -- in three innings Monday.

He struck out five and walked two. Beckett's peripherals continue to suggest third or fourth major league starter, while his performance screams Triple-A fodder. Through eight starts, he's posted a nice 41/15 K/BB rate, but struggles with runners on base have, in part, left Beckett with an 0-5 record and 5.19 ERA. Don't bet on success Sunday against the Braves.
May 14 - 3:23 AM

Josh Beckett lost to the Rockies after giving up five runs -- four earned -- in four innings Wednesday.

A Hanley Ramirez error kicked off a three-run rally for the Rockies in the top of the first, and Beckett allowed two more runs in the fourth before departing. After six starts, he has a rather nice 31/11 K/BB ratio in 34 1/3 innings. However, he's really struggled with men on base, something that's carried over from last season. As a result, he's 0-4 with a 5.24 ERA.
May 2 - 2:20 AM

Josh Beckett pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed three runs Friday against the Brewers.

Beckett is still looking for that first win. He's allowed more than three earned runs just once in five starts, but he's also had just one truly strong outing (that coming in a 1-0 loss to Arizona). He's a matchup guy at best in mixed leagues right now.
Apr 27 - 1:43 AM

Josh Beckett pitched a complete game six-hitter in Sunday's loss to the Diamondbacks.

Beckett was highly efficient despite the hard luck loss, and allowed just one run to go along with nine strikeouts. The Dodgers offense unfortunately didn't provide any run support. Beckett hasn't had any bad starts this season and owns a solid 3.25 ERA. He'll look to get his first win this weekend against the Orioles.
Apr 14 - 9:29 PM

Josh Beckett allowed three runs on six hits and a walk over just five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Padres.

Beckett started to settle in a bit after a rough first inning, but his pitch count was up to 84 after five, and the Dodgers removed him for a pinch-hitter in the top of the sixth. The veteran righty holds a 4.91 ERA and 1.27 WHIP through two outings. He'll get the D'Backs in Arizona this weekend.
Apr 9 - 10:36 PM

Josh Beckett yielded five runs -- three earned -- in six innings Wednesday in a loss to the Giants.

Pablo Sandoval and Hunter Pence homered off Beckett. Sandoval's homer, a two-run shot in the third, came after a Skip Schumaker error that prevented Beckett from getting out of the inning. We have pretty modest expectations for Beckett this year. He's a borderline mixed-league starter at the moment.
Apr 4 - 1:36 AM

Josh Beckett’s spring finale didn’t go exactly as planned on Friday, as he surrendered seven runs on nine hits over his 4 innings of work.

On the bright side, Beckett did record five strikeouts in the game without issuing a free pass. A perennial slow starter, he wraps up the spring schedule with a 7.79 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 17/6 K/BB ratio in 17 1/3 innings. He’s likely to get the ball in the Dodgers’ third game of the season, against the Brewers in Milwaukee on Wednesday.
Mar 30 - 1:42 AM

Josh Beckett gave up seven runs on six hits over four innings of work Sunday against the Athletics.

Beckett was scratched from his start Monday with flu-like symptoms, so he may not have been at full strength. He allowed two home runs and three walks before being taken out. It was his only bad start of the spring, as he entered the game with a 0.96 ERA. The Dodgers will need Beckett to get back on track with Zack Greinke (elbow) questionable for the start of the season.
Mar 24 - 9:12 PM

Josh Beckett was scratched from a scheduled Cactus League start Monday because of the flu.

Beckett is going to throw a simulated game instead to stay on track with his spring throwing program. He should be over his flu symptoms by his next Cactus start.
Mar 18 - 12:50 PM

Josh Beckett held the Reds to one run over 4 1/3 innings Tuesday.

He allowed just two hits, walked two and struck out five, with the lone blemish coming in the form of a Shin-Soo Choo solo homer. Beckett has now permitted just one run over 9 1/3 frames this spring, putting up an 11/3 K/BB ratio.
Mar 12 - 11:47 PM

Josh Beckett blanked the Giants over two innings in Tuesday's 8-8 Cactus League tie.

He allowed one hit and one walk while recording three strikeouts. Beckett posted a 2.93 ERA in seven starts for the Dodgers down the stretch last season and is looking for a bounce-back year in his first full campaign back in the National League.
Feb 26 - 7:22 PM

Josh Beckett pitched six innings of one-run ball Sunday in defeating the Rockies.

Andrew Brown homered in the fourth, but Beckett was able to work around the other five hits and three walks. He ends the regular season having gone 2-3 with a 2.93 ERA in seven starts for the Dodgers. The team scored a total of three runs in his last three losses. Whether Beckett will get a chance to keep it going into the postseason is still to be determined, but it doesn't look good with the Dodgers two behind the Cardinals with three to play.
