Padres signed C Eric Munson to a minor league contract.

It doesn't include an invite to spring training. Munson, 32, made one appearance with the Athletics last season, but spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Sacramento. The former top-prospect has a .214/.289/.394 lifetime batting line in the majors.

Athletics purchased the contract of C Eric Munson from Triple-A Sacramento.

Munson, 31, will serve as an emergency catcher for the A's over the regular season's final few weeks. He hit .265/.362/.450 with 13 dingers and 68 RBI this season on the Triple-A level.

Athletics signed catcher Eric Munson to a minor league contract.

We originally had the Blue Jays signing Munson, but it was actually the A's, who apparently want him and Curtis Thigpen to share time behind the plate at Triple-A Sacramento. Considering that developing young pitching is such a priority for the organization right now, it's surprising that the front office is not targeting catchers with better defensive reputation.

Brewers sent C/1B Eric Munson outright to Triple-A Nashville.

The Brewers chose Mike Rivera over Munson as Jason Kendall's backup, although neither player would have had fantasy value given Kendall's durability. Munson batted .333 this spring, but isn't much of a defender behind the plate. If he accepts the assignment to Triple-A, he'll likely serve as Vinny Rottino's backup.

Eric Munson went 3-for-3 with a homer off Carlos Silva and a walk Monday as a Brewers split-squad rolled over the Mariners 17-3.

Munson is 10-for-24 with five doubles. It looks like he'll get to open the season as Jason Kendall's backup in Milwaukee.

Eric Munson had two hits and two RBI on Monday, leaving him 4-for-9 this spring.

Munson, who missed time with the flu earlier this month, is battling Mike Rivera and maybe Vinny Rottino for a spot as Jason Kendall's backup. We still think the Brewers should try to do better, but Munson looks like the favorite.

Brewers agreed to terms with catcher Eric Munson on a one-year, $525,000 contract.

Munson, who was claimed off waivers from the Astros two months ago, probably would have been non-tendered had he not accepted the Brewers' offer now. It looks like he'll battle Mike Rivera for a job backing up Jason Kendall in spring training. Rivera is the better of the two similar players, but Munson's left-handed bat may give him the advantage.

Brewers claimed catcher Eric Munson off waivers from the Astros.

Bizarre. The Brewers already have a superior version of Munson in Mike Rivera, who received all of 13 at-bats this year. It's true that Rivera is right-handed, whereas Munson is a lefty, but he's a better defender, if still below average, and he can contribute more offensively. Munson is eligible for arbitration, so we don't see why the Brewers want anything to do with him at all.

Eric Munson will undergo an MRI on his back Friday.

"Hopefully, it's just a muscle spasm," he said. "It's happened three times the last two weeks. Every time it's been after I do my running. It's just weird. It just balls up and gets tight and then it goes away an hour or two later." Munson will likely be out the remainder of the season.

Eric Munson is dealing with a sore lower-back.

"I don't know if it was a spasm or not," Munson said. "It was just (Thursday) night. I got here (Friday) and it was good...I was doing my normal routine, my workout. I was running on a treadmill. As soon as I got off the treadmill, it just locked up." The Astros will continue to give J.R. Towles a look behind the plate, giving Munson's back plenty of time to heal.

Eric Munson singled in the game-winning hit with two outs in the bottom of the 10th as Houston beat the Cubs 2-1.

Munson made his only at-bat of the night count, driving in Ty Wigginton from third to make a winner of Brad Lidge.

Eric Munson hit his first homer since his promotion a week ago Saturday against the White Sox.

Munson started his first two games after being called up, sat out in favor of Brad Ausmus in three straight and now has been back in the lineup in consecutive games. He's 3-for-14 with two walks in his four starts. The homer will help his case for playing time, but he probably won't play against the lefty on Sunday.

Astros purchased the contract of catcher Eric Munson from Triple-A Round Rock.

Munson was a bust last year, but the Astros will again try him as an alternative to Brad Ausmus behind the plate. He was hitting .285/.367/.512 in 172 at-bats for Round Rock. Expect the occasional homer and little else.

Astros re-signed catcher Eric Munson and infielder Cody Ransom to minor league contracts.

The Astros took a chance on Munson as an offensive-minded backup catcher, but he batted just .199/.269/.348 in 141 at-bats. It's doubtful that the Astros will try him in that role again, though he could be brought up to aid the bench at some later date. Ransom will be assigned to Triple-A Round Rock.
