Derrick Turnbow is likely to require surgery on his injured shoulder.
The Marlins dumped Turnbow early Wednesday morning after he removed himself from a spring training game Tuesday with a right shoulder injury. "More than likely I'll try to have surgery and get it fixed," he said. "Unless it is something that is just going to take forever to come back." It's doubtful we ever see him in a major league uniform again. Wed, Mar 17, 2010 09:37:00 AM

Marlins released RHP Derrick Turnbow.

That'll do it. Turnbow, 32, was hoping to turn his career around this spring in Marlins camp, but he left Tuesday's game with a shoulder injury and is currently contemplating surgery. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since '08, when he had a 15.63 ERA in eight relief appearances.

Derrick Turnbow (shoulder) said his comeback attempt is over.

Turnbow, who left Tuesday's game favoring his shoulder, will now contemplate yet another surgery. The 32-year-old, who was signed to a minor league contract by the Marlins this winter, hasn't thrown a pitch in the major leagues since 2008 and hasn't been effective since 2005.

Derrick Turnbow exited Tuesday's game against the Nationals with an apparent injury.

He was favoring his shoulder, according to reports, bad news given his injury history. Turnbow, 32, was a major longshot to win a spot in Florida's bullpen anyway. He hasn't appeared in a major league game since 2008 and posted a 15.63 ERA in eight appearances that season.

Making his spring debut, Derrick Turnbow walked three of the five batters he faced Saturday against the Rays.

He did retire the other two. Turnbow's exhibition debut was delayed by a toe injury he suffered two weeks ago. He's a big long shot to win a spot inFlorida bullpen.

Derrick Turnbow's toe "exploded" before throwing a bullpen session on Sunday.

"My toenail jammed up in my shoe about a week ago and it caused it to swell up," said Turnbow. "It got infected and it affected my command a lot the first two times I was out. I didn't say anything (to the coaching staff). Today, it busted open and all the blood came out. It felt better immediately." Good news for the erratic reliever, and with this news, we can only assume he's been bothered by this affliction for the entirety of his career. Turnbow, who was signed to a minor league contract in January, has averaged 5.9 BB/9 in 257 major league appearances.

Marlins signed RHP Derrick Turnbow to a minor league contract.

With the deal comes an invitation to spring training, where Turnbow really needs to put on a show in order to secure a place in the Marlins' bullpen. The last time we saw him in the major leagues, the right-hander posted a 15.63 ERA and a 5/13 K/BB ratio in eight appearances (6 1/3 innings)

Ken Gurnick of reports that the Dodgers are one of the finalists for free agent reliever Derrick Turnbow.

What do they win? A pitcher who hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008, when he posted an obscene 15.63 ERA in eight appearances. The 31-year-old Turnbow asked for and was granted his release by the Rangers last May after putting up an 8.53 ERA and 9/1 K/BB ratio in 6 1/3 innings with Triple-A Oklahoma. It's incredible that so many teams are interested in a pitcher who never had any command to begin with.

Jerry Crasnick of reports that the Diamondbacks and Rockies are interested in right-hander Derrick Turnbow.

Turnbow is expected to sign rather quickly. The 31-year-old right-hander hasn't appeared in the majors since 2008, when he posted an ugly 15.63 ERA in eight appearances with the Brewers. The Rockies have reportedly been the most aggressive in their interest.

Derrick Turnbow is expected to land with a new team in the next two days, according to's Thomas Harding.

Two weeks ago, Turnbow's throwing session in front of scouts was impressive enough to instigate negotiations with more than one franchise. The Rockies have been the team most mentioned as a potential Turnbow destination. The 31-year-old right-hander hasn't made a major league appearance since 2008 and posted a 15.63 ERA in eight outings that season. Colorado is also looking at Eric Gagne.

Derrick Turnbow will audition for teams in Phoenix on Friday, reports's Jerry Crasnick.

Turnbow was last heard from May 1 when Turnbow asked for and received his release from Texas, spending a month in the minor leagues and posting a 1/9 K/BB rate in 6 1/3 innings. Turnbow injured his shoulder after a nice run in Milwaukee from 2005-6. 16 teams have confirmed interest, but Turnbow won't get anything more than a minor league deal.

Rangers released RHP Derrick Turnbow.

Looks like the end of the line for Turnbow. He wasn't a control specialist in his prime, but 9 walks and 1 strikeout in 6 1/3 minor-league innings won't get you a job in the major leagues.
