Jeff Todd of MLBTradeRumors.com reports that Scott Downs will only accept a major league contract.
Downs was released by the Indians Monday after failing to make the team as a non-roster invitee. The 39-year-old isn't interested in going to Triple-A, which is understandable given his track record. It's not clear whether he might consider retirement if he doesn't get a major league job relatively soon. Mar 30 - 8:36 PM

Indians released LHP Scott Downs.

The move allows Downs to seek an opportunity with another club. The 38-year-old southpaw was in camp this spring as a non-roster invitee and posted a 2.84 ERA and 5/2 K/BB ratio in 6 1/3 innings during Cactus League action.

Indians signed LHP Scott Downs to a minor league contract.

The deal includes an invitation to major league spring training. The 38-year-old southpaw posted a 4.97 ERA, 1.47 WHIP and 25/20 K/BB ratio over 38 innings with the White Sox and Royals in 2014. Once considered one of the top left-handed specialists in the game, Downs represents a nice low-risk signing for the Indians.

Royals activated LHP Scott Downs from the 15-day disabled list.

Downs has been sidelined for most of the month with a stiff neck. The veteran reliever owns a 5.29 ERA and 25/19 K/BB ratio over 34 innings of work this season.

Scott Downs (neck) will throw live batting practice with the Royals return home from a road trip on Tuesday.

Downs is eligible to return from the DL now, but the Royals will likely wait until rosters expand to activate him. He's been out with a stiff neck.

Royals placed LHP Scott Downs on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 3, with a stiff neck.

The Royals waited it out for as long as they could but eventually relented. Downs should be ready for activation when first eligible on August 18 or shortly after.

Royals signed LHP Scott Downs to a one-year contract.

Downs was released by the White Sox earlier this month after posting a 6.08 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 22/15 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings. However, the 38-year-old has obviously had plenty of success in the past and is worth a shot at the veteran minimum.

White Sox released LHP Scott Downs.

Downs was designated for assignment on June 26 and made it through waivers unclaimed. The left-hander is now a free agent. He had a rough 6.08 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 22/15 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings this year for Chicago.

White Sox designated LHP Scott Downs for assignment.

Downs had a 6.08 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, and 22/15 K/BB ratio in 23 2/3 innings this season for Chicago. He's a left-hander with a good track record, so the 38-year-old will likely draw interest from multiple teams on waivers.

Scott Downs notched a four-out save Monday against the Indians.

Downs came on to strike out David Murphy with the bases loaded in the top of the eighth inning and worked around a two-out walk in the ninth to lock down the victory. It was his first save since July 23, 2012. He could continue to get more chances if Robin Ventura decides to go with a committee in the late innings.

White Sox signed LHP Scott Downs to a one-year, $4 million contract with a $4.25 million club option for 2015.

The deal was agreed to in December and then made official Thursday after Downs passed his physical. The veteran southpaw posted a cool 2.49 ERA in 43 1/3 innings of work last season between the Angels and Braves. He'll serve as a lefty specialist and middle reliever for Chicago.

Jon Morosi of FOX Sports is reporting that free agent reliever Scott Downs is close to an agreement with the White Sox.

Morosi's colleague at FOX Sports, Ken Rosenthal, reports that the deal is for one year and around $4 million with a vesting option that could make it a two-year, $8 million deal. Downs will be 38 when the 2014 regular season begins but he has showed no signs of slowing down. With the Angels and Braves last season, the lefty posted a combined 2.49 ERA in 43 1/3 innings of work, striking out 37 and unintentionally walking 17.

The Padres are interested in free agent left-hander Scott Downs, according to Fox Sports' Jon Morosi.

Scott Downs (finger) returned to action on Friday, allowing a go-ahead single to Logan Forsythe, the only hitter he faced.

It was the first appearance for Downs since fracturing his finger on September 7. He came on with a man at second and two outs in the eighth inning, and the score tied at 3-3, before allowing the go-ahead single to the pinch-hitting Forsythe.
