Phillies signed RHP Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Lopez appeared in four games with the Cubs in 2012 and posted a 5.28 ERA and 55/26 K/BB ratio in 73 1/3 innings at the Triple-A level. He won't be an option for the major league roster with the Phillies, but should serve as an insurance policy for John Lannan in the minors.

Cubs sent RHP Rodrigo Lopez outright to Triple-A Iowa.

Lopez was designated for assignment by the Cubs this week and quickly decided to accept an assignment to their Triple-A team. He allowed six runs in 6 1/3 major league innings this season and could struggle to climb his way back up this summer.

Cubs designated RHP Rodrigo Lopez for assignment.

Lopez was cleared to make room for the recently-acquired Michael Bowden on the active roster. The 36-year-old right-hander has allowed six runs (four earned) on eight hits and five walks over his first 6 1/3 innings this season.

Cubs purchased the contract of RHP Rodrigo Lopez from Triple-A Iowa.

A non-roster invitee, Lopez is likely to pitch in a long relief role out of the bullpen. The Cubs have yet to release a corresponding roster move, but Luis Valbuena is not listed on the roster for Saturday's game.

Rodrigo Lopez held the Athletics in check Tuesday, limiting them to one run on three hits and a walk over five innings.

He also recorded four strikeouts. A non-roster invitee, Lopez entered camp hoping to win a long relief spot, but he's thrust himself into the No. 5 starter conversation with a 2.25 ERA and 9/1 K/BB ratio over 12 innings. Ultimately, he'll still likely be left in a relief role.

Cubs re-signed RHP Rodrigo Lopez to a minor league contract.

The pact includes an invitation to spring training, where Lopez will try to earn a spot in Chicago's 2012 bullpen. He posted a 4.42 ERA across 97 2/3 innings last year.

Rodrigo Lopez spun six shutout innings in a tough-luck no-decision against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Lopez held the Cardinals to just four hits, all of them singles, while walking a pair and striking out just one. He was in line for the victory until Carlos Marmol blew the lead in the bottom of the ninth. The veteran right-hander is still a home run machine, but was fairly useful as a swingman for the Cubs this season, posting a 4.71 ERA and 53/27 K/BB over 91 2/3 innings. He'll almost certainly have to settle for another minor league contract this winter.

Rodrigo Lopez allowed just an unearned run over six innings in Saturday's win over the Astros.

Lopez held the Astros to four hits, three of them singles, while striking out a season-high seven and walking a pair. The solid outing improved his ERA to 4.74 on the year. The veteran right-hander shouldn't be trusted in fantasy leagues, though.

Rodrigo Lopez allowed five runs on nine hits, including four home runs, in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday, but still managed to improve to 5-6 in Chicago's 12-8 win over the Reds in Cincinnati.

Some "win." He struck out four. Lopez has now allowed 18 home runs in just 86 innings of work this season. He'll bring a 5.04 ERA and 1.55 WHIP into his Saturday start against the Astros.

Rodrigo Lopez allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits and four walks in six innings of work on Friday, taking the loss in Chicago's 5-2 setback against the Brewers.

Lopez struck out five in his first quality start in six outings. He'll take a 4.80 ERA and 1.47 WHIP into his Wednesday outing in San Francisco.

Rodrigo Lopez allowed three runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings on Monday, improving to 4-3 in Chicago's 4-3 win in Houston.

Lopez has now allowed just five runs (three earned) in 11 innings of work over his past two starts after giving up six runs in back-to-back outings on July 30 and August 4. He'll take a 4.66 ERA and 1.41 WHIP into his Sunday matchup against the Cardinals.

Rodrigo Lopez held the Nationals to five hits and two runs (one earned) in 5 2/3 innings on Wednesday, moving to 3-3 in a 4-2 Cubs victory at home.

He struck out four and walked none. A much needed effort for Lopez, who had allowed 12 runs on 15 hits in just 8 1/3 innings over his past two starts. Now the owner of a 4.78 ERA and 1.42 WHIP, he'll get the Astros in Houston his next time out.
Wed, Aug 10, 2011 11:37:00 PM

Rodrigo Lopez struggled through four innings of work Thursday, giving up six runs in an eventual 7-6 victory over the Pirates.

Lopez was tagged for seven hits, walked two batters and didn't record a strikeout. The veteran right-hander has now had two straight outings of less than 5.0 innings, yielding six earned runs in both contests. Keep him far away from your fantasy roster.
