Orioles sent outfielder Tike Redman outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Redman was battling Scott Moore for the roster spot that apparently just went away with Jay Gibbons' suspension being put on hold. He'll be brought back if the Orioles are ever successful at dumping Jay Payton's contract.

With Jay Payton still battling an illness, Tike Redman started and hit his first homer of the spring on Wednesday.

Redman is hoping the Orioles find a taker for Payton's contract. That'd give him his best chance of sticking around as a reserve outfielder. He might make the team anyway due to Jay Gibbons' suspension, but he'd be a candidate to be demoted in mid-April.

Orioles agreed to terms with outfielder Tike Redman to a one-year contract.

Redman hit .318/.341/.462 in 132 at-bats over the final two months of last season to work his way into the Orioles' plans for 2008. There's little chance of him doing it again, but at least he will offer speed and defense off the bench.

Tike Redman went 3-for-5 and stole his fourth base of the season in a 6-2 win over the Blue Jays on Friday.

Redman has been getting playing time in center field with Corey Patterson out, and he's done an excellent job by hitting .357 with two homers, 16 runs, and 10 RBI since being called up in mid-August. Patterson is due back next week, but Redman should continue to start in left field against right-handers. He's not a very good bet to continue playing this well, but he's going good now and needs to be owned in AL-only leagues as a result.

Tike Redman hit his first major league homer since 2005 and scored three times Saturday versus the Red Sox.

Redman, who started in place of Corey Patterson again tonight, is batting .327 since being called up a month ago. The Orioles will give him frequent starts over Jay Payton versus right-handers for the rest of the month.

Orioles purchased the contract of OF Tike Redman from Triple-A Norfolk.

The Orioles keep stressing defense, defense, defense when it comes to the bench. Redman, another left-handed hitter, makes little sense on a team already employing Corey Patterson as its regular center fielder. He's never going to deserve to play over Patterson, and he doesn't have the bat to be useful in a corner. The former Pirate was hitting .300/.370/.403 for Norfolk.

Orioles signed outfielder Tike Redman to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Norfolk.

Jon Knott is sidelined, so the O's could use some extra outfield depth at Norfolk. Redman, 30, last played in the majors with the Pirates in 2005, hitting .251/.292/.332 in 319 at-bats.

The Tigers signed Tike Redman to a minor league contract.

Redman, who was released by the Mets last month, will replace the injured Nook Logan at Triple-A Toledo.

Mets released outfielder Tike Redman.

Redman probably requested the move after being reassigned to minor league camp. Redman was always miscast as a starter, but there are worse fifth outfielders out there. We wouldn't be surprised to see the Marlins grab him.

Mets reassigned OF Tike Redman, OF Lastings Milledge, C Sandy Martinez and 1B Todd Self to minor league camp.

Unsurprisingly, the Mets prefer Endy Chavez to Redman, who has gone from the Pirates' No. 3 hitter to minor leaguer in a year's time. Milledge tried to show he wasn't far away by hitting .327/.351/.436 in 55 AB.

Mets sent outfielder Tike Redman outright to Triple-A Norfolk.

Redman's chances of winning a bench spot shouldn't be diminished with his removal from the 40-man roster last week. He'll likely be competing with Endy Chavez for one place on the roster.

In 135 at-bats for Ponce of the Puerto Rican League, Tike Redman is batting .356/.424/.400 and has six steals.

He ranks second in the league in average and four in on-base percentage. Because of the Endy Chavez signing, Redman's spot on the Mets is hardly assured. The team shouldn't have room for both unless the decision is made to return Victor Diaz to the minors, something we don't see happening.

Mets acquired outfielder Tike Redman from the Pirates for cash considerations.

Redman will likely serve as the backup center fielder, even though Xavier Nady can also handle the position. Nady or Victor Diaz, whoever isn't playing regularly, can fill in at the corners, so Redman shouldn't get more than 200-250 at-bats. Kept at that level, he's not such a bad choice. Since he might steal 8-12 bases, he'll be an option at $1-$2 in NL-only leagues.

WFAN in New York is reporting that the Mets have acquired Tike Redman from the Pirates for cash.

This after his brother, Prentice, just left the organization, signing a minor league deal with the Cardinals. Redman is a better choice than Gerald Williams to act as a fifth outfielder, but that's all he is. The 28-year-old had a .277/.312/.378 line in 1,278 career at-bats with the Pirates.
