Kinney had pitched two scoreless innings of relief since joining the Giants last week. Perhaps he'll get a start this weekend if Kevin Correia is shut down. There's no reason to pick him up right now, though.

Kinney's ERA jumped to 6.06 in 78 2/3 IP for the Brewers and Royals last season. He's always had a nice strikeout rate, but he needs to cut down on the homers or the walks if he wants to keep getting opportunities.

Brewers designated RHP Matt Kinney for assignment.

Kinney's walk rate was down and his strikeout rate was up from last season. His big problem was that he was giving up more singles than usual, and that could have been bad luck. Still, the Brewers have little to lose by cutting him. He's likely to clear waivers and he has to accept the assignment. If he pitches well in Triple-A, he should return next month.
