Gload met with team doctors in New York on October 18 and was advised that arthroscopic surgery was not necessary. Instead, he'll begin an off-season rehab program. It is not yet clear whether he'll be ready for spring training. Fri, Oct 28, 2011 06:56:00 PM

Ross Gload is expected to undergo hip surgery over the offseason.

Gload played with a small tear in his hip for the majority of the season. He'll be examined by orthopedic surgeon Bryan Kelly soon to make sure that surgery will in fact be required. Gload, 35, will be a free agent this offseason.

Ross Gload's hip injury is not expected to land him on the disabled list.

According to Phillies beat writer Matt Gelb, Gload's only two real options are to play through the minor tear in his hip, or undergo season-ending surgery. Used almost exclusively as a pinch hitter, don't expect the Phillies to shut Gload down unless he's obviously encumbered at the plate.

Ross Gload picked up a pinch-hit single Friday.

Gload has a minor tear in his hip that he'll attempt to play through. We would expect him to be used primarily as a pinch-hitter moving forward, which had been his role before the injury, anyway.

Ross Gload (hip) popped out in a pinch-hit appearance in the 13th inning of Wednesday's win over the Reds.

Ross Gload is expected to miss a few more days due to a tear in his hip.

The Phillies hope he'll be able to play through the injury and not require a trip to the DL. "It's not necessarily minor. He's got a labral issue. But we're going to try to manage through it," GM Ruben Amaro said. "I think it's one of those injuries, no dissimilar to Chase's (Utley) in that he's got a tear in there, and he's either going to play it out and manage it. He'll probably play as much as he can, tolerate it as much as he can."
