Four minor league players were suspended Tuesday by the commissioner's office for violating the league's drug policies, including Tigers farmhand Timo Perez.
Perez, who helped the Mets reach the World Series in 2000, was slapped with a 50-game suspension for testing positive for Ritalinic Acid and Methylphenidate, which are attention deficit disorder treatments. The 36-year-old hit .304/.344/.410 at Triple-A Toledo this year. A's outfielder Mitch LeVier, a ninth-round pick in 2008, got 50 games for a second violation for using a drug of abuse. Oscar Rodriguez, formerly of the Pirates organization, and Kelvin Santana, who pitched for the Astros' Dominican Summer League club over the summer, were suspended 50 games for performance-enhancing drugs. Tigers signed OF Timo Perez to a minor league contract.

Perez will be 36 years old in April and has not played in a major league game since 2007. He has hit well in the minors since then, but is not expected to make an impact in the majors this season with Detroit.

Phillies signed OF Timo Perez to a minor league contract.

The 35-year-old Perez will head to Double-A Reading to begin his tenure in the Phillies' farm system. He was released by the Dodgers July 7 after posting a .296/.336/.426 batting line at Triple-A Albuquerque.

Dodgers released OF Timo Perez.

The news comes courtesy of Ben Nicholson-Smith of MLB Trade Rumors. Perez, 35, was batting .296/.336/.426 line in 123 plate appearances with Triple-A Albuquerque this season. The former Mets fan favorite hasn't appeared in the majors since 2007, when he was a member of the Tigers.

Dodgers signed OF Timo Perez to a minor league contract.

He'll also get an invite to Spring Training. Perez, who turns 35 in April, spent all of last season in the Mexican League after failing to make the Tigers out of Spring Training. The .269/.308/.382 lifetime hitter hasn't played in the majors since 2007.

Timo Perez went 4-for-5 and missed the cycle by a double in the Tigers' 7-6 win over the Cardinals on Monday.

Perez is 7-for-17. He helped the Tigers for a time in 2007, but he couldn't make the club last year and he entered this spring with no real shot of making the club. Ryan Raburn, Jeff Larish, Brent Clevlen and probably Mike Hessman are all ahead of him in line for one bench spot.

Tigers re-signed outfielder Timo Perez to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Perez was a nice surprise with the Tigers in 2007, but after signing a one-year deal last winter, he failed to make the team out of spring training and spent the entire season in Triple-A. The 33-year-old will be a long shot to win a spot this year.

Tigers agreed to terms with outfielder Timo Perez on a one-year contract.

The deal includes $150,000 in guaranteed money and a spot on the 40-man roster, and can be worth up to $525,000. Perez was designated for assignment last month and outrighted to the minors last week, but returns to Detroit after hitting .389 in 29 games with the Tigers in 2007. If he makes the team out of spring training, it'll be as a reserve outfielder.

Tigers sent outfielder Timo Perez outright to Triple-A Toledo.

Perez was designated for assignment on Nov. 30. He'll likely become a free agent.
Fri, Dec 7, 2007 02:39:00 PM

Tigers designated outfielder Timo Perez for assignment.

Perez batted .389 in 29 games with the Tigers in 2007 after being called up from Triple-A in late August, but the 32-year-old veteran is a career .269/.308/.382 who offers little pop in an outfield corner. He may have to settle for another Triple-A gig.

Timo Perez singled in Brandon Inge in the bottom of the 11th to give the Tigers a 2-1 win over the White Sox on Wednesday.

Even though it was a low scoring game, the White Sox were on to their seventh reliever of the night when Perez ended the game. None of those relievers were named Bobby Jenks, illustrating the White Sox's sense of urgency. Perez ended the game 2-for-6. He stands to receive less playing time with Gary Sheffield returning Thursday, but manager Jim Leyland seems to have a soft spot for him.

Tigers recalled outfielder Timo Perez from Triple-A Toledo.

Perez spent a few days with the Tigers last month and made a couple of starts. With Cameron Maybin up, playing time should be hard for the veteran to come by, even with Gary Sheffield on the DL.

Tigers optioned outfielder Timo Perez to Triple-A Toledo.

Perez went 1-for-7 with a couple of runs scored in his four days with the Tigers.
Mon, Jul 23, 2007 04:07:00 PM

Tigers purchased the contract of outfielder Timo Perez from Triple-A Toledo.

Brent Clevlen has played well lately, but the Tigers opted to go with the veteran. The 32-year-old Perez was hitting .322/.364/.491 for Toledo. With Craig Monroe and Marcus Thames both hurting, it's possible Perez could make a few starts over the next week. There's no upside here, though.
Thu, Jul 19, 2007 01:06:00 PM

Tigers reassigned OF Timo Perez, RHP Preston Larrison, LHP Tim Byrdak, LHP Bobby Seay, C Dane Sardinha, C Steve Torrealba and OF Ryan Raburn to inor league camp.

Timo never had a chance of making the Tigers, but perhaps he made himself attractive to another team by hitting .350/.422/.625 in 40 at-bats.
