LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that the Twins "have been linked" to Ryan Vogelsong.
The Twins are searching for some rotation help and have been connected to Brett Anderson in addition to Vogelsong. The right-hander posted a 3.74 ERA over the last four seasons with the Giants and, even though he'll turn 38 in July, should be a solid back-end starter for another year or two. Vogelsong might only require a one-year contract. Dec 7 - 9:59 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Sunday that Ryan Vogelsong will be available out of the bullpen for the remainder of the World Series.

It's officially all hands on deck for the Giants, and Vogelsong should still be relatively fresh after lasting just 2 2/3 innings on Saturday. It's unlikely that he'll be utilized unless it's a long relief scenario in extra innings.
Oct 26 - 4:29 PM

Ryan Vogelsong couldn't make it out of the third inning, giving up four runs in 2 2/3 innings but got a no-decision as the Giants toppled the Royals in Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday.

Vogelsong had no issue with the Royals in the first two frames, but they hung a four-spot on him in the top of the third, chasing him from the game in the process. It's worth noting that Vogelsong wasn't hit particularly hard; rather, the Royals used their speed and favorable hit placement. Overall, Vogelsong gave up the four runs on seven hits and a walk with two strikeouts. The Giants will go with Madison Bumgarner in Game 5, then Jake Peavy and Tim Hudson in Games 6 and 7 so Vogelsong is likely done starting. He could contribute out of the bullpen.
Oct 26 - 12:09 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed after Friday's loss to the Royals that Ryan Vogelsong will start Game 4 on Saturday.

Madison Bumgarner made a push to talk his manager into letting him pitch Game 4 on short rest, but Bochy opted to stick with the veteran right-hander while saving Bumgarner for Game 5. He'll oppose Jason Vargas as the Giants look to even up the series at two games apiece.
Oct 24 - 11:48 PM

Ryan Vogelsong will start for the Giants in Game 4 of the World Series Saturday.

Vogelsong lasted just three innings in his start against the Cardinals in the NLCS, but he's traditionally been a good pitcher in the postseason. A starter for the Royals hasn't yet been announced for the game.
Oct 18 - 6:03 PM

Ryan Vogelsong was pulled early in his NLCS Game 4 start against the Cardinals, surrendering four runs on seven hits over three innings in a no-decision.

Vogelsong didn't have it from the outset, allowing a leadoff double in each of the first three innings. He also gave up a solo home run to Kolten Wong in the third. The right-hander walked two and struck out one before exiting, needing 60 pitches to get through three innings. With the Giants leading the series 3-1 it's likely the last start before a potential World Series turn for Vogelsong, who had a 1.19 ERA in five postseason starts before Wednesday's clunker.
Oct 16 - 12:05 AM

Ryan Vogelsong held the Nationals to one run over 5 2/3 innings in the Giants' 3-2 NLDS Game 4 victory.

He yielded just two hits, walked two and struck out four. Vogelsong came out pumped up, hitting 94-95 mph with regularity early on and holding the Nats hitless through the first four frames. His velocity and results faded in the fifth, when he allowed two hits and a walk before escaping with just one run allowed. He was in line for the win before Hunter Strickland was taken deep by Bryce Harper in the seventh. Vogelsong had a pretty ordinary year, but he again stepped up in his first postseason start and now boasts a 1.19 ERA over five career playoff starts. The Giants will face the Cardinals in St. Louis in Game 1 of the NLCS on Saturday.
Oct 8 - 1:07 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy confirmed Monday that Ryan Vogelsong would start Game 4 of the NLDS.

The Giants are up 2-0 in the best-of-five and trying to close things out against the Nationals on Monday afternoon behind staff ace Madison Bumgarner. Vogelsong went 0-4 with a 5.53 ERA in September, so the Giants would probably like to avoid having to lean on him to get them to a decisive Game 5.
Oct 6 - 2:16 PM

Ryan Vogelsong gave up four runs -- three earned -- in 5 1/3 innings Friday in a loss to the Padres.

Vogelsong ended up 0-4 with a 5.53 ERA in September, putting his NLDS rotation spot in serious doubt should the Giants advance. As is, they'd seem to be better off going with Yusmeiro Petit as their fourth starter and leaving Vogelsong off the roster. Overall, Vogelsong went 8-13 with a 4.00 ERA in 32 starts for the year. He'll be a free agent again this winter, and the Giants might decide to move on from him this time.
Sep 27 - 1:55 AM

Ryan Vogelsong gave up four runs -- two earned -- over five innings in Sunday's loss to the Padres.

Vogelsong was cruising, having allowed just one run through five innings, but he ran into some trouble in the sixth. After two singles and a throwing error, Vogelsong departed and watched as all three inherited runs were allowed to score. He allowed just four hits and a walk over his five innings, striking out five. Vogelsong dropped to 8-12 with the loss and owns a 3.96 ERA heading into his final start of the season. That will come with a shot at some payback, as the Giants welcome the Padres to town next weekend.
Sep 21 - 10:14 PM

Ryan Vogelsong allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings as the Giants dropped a 6-2 decision versus the Diamondbacks on Monday.

Vogelsong didn't have his best stuff tonight, though that only manifested on the scoreboard on Mark Trumbo's grand slam. He walked four and allowed six hits. The right-hander came into tonight with a 1.38 ERA in his last two starts against the Diamondbacks, having received exactly zero runs of support in both games. San Francisco's offense couldn't get going tonight, either. Vogelsong (8-11, 3.98 ERA) will be in San Diego this weekend for a Sunday matinee against the Padres.
Sep 16 - 12:42 AM

Ryan Vogelsong worked 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits, in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Vogelsong wasn't perfect, of course, striking out only two and walking five. He was yanked before reaching seven innings after cracking 100 pitches. Vogelsong appeared to turn the corner last month, going 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA in six starts, but was then eviscerated for a career-high eight runs (on four homers) over five innings at Colorado in his first start of September. Hopefully that start was a one-outing aberration. Vogelsong has a rematch against the Diamondbacks next week.
Sep 11 - 1:44 AM

Ryan Vogelsong picked up his eighth win of the season, holding the Brewers to two runs over seven innings as the Giants enjoyed a cakewalk 13-2 victory on Friday.

Vogelsong had a 3-0 lead after the first inning and an 8-1 lead after four, so it was a very stress-free night. The right-hander yielded only four hits and a walk while striking out seven, resulting in his first win since August 6. Vogelsong will take his 3.73 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 128/44 K/BB ratio into a start at Coors Field against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Aug 30 - 1:48 AM

Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

Vogelsong allowed four hits and walked four in the game, and he exited before the Nationals got busy hanging 11 runs on the Giants bullpen. The no-decision leaves Vogelsong's record at 7-9, and he owns a 3.78 ERA through 26 starts. He'll next take the mound Friday against the Brewers.
Aug 24 - 6:30 PM

Ryan Vogelsong took a loss on Thursday, allowing four runs over two innings, as play was resumed from Tuesday and the Cubs defeated the Giants by a 2-1 margin.

Play was halted after Vogelsong had allowed two runs through four innings, both on Anthony Rizzo's first-inning, two-run home run. It proved to be the deciding factor. Vogelsong did not pitch on Thursday, finishing the game having allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four. He'll take a 3.73 ERA and a 122/41 K/BB ratio into Sunday's road start against the Nationals.
