Ryan Vogelsong allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings as the Giants dropped a 6-2 decision versus the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Vogelsong didn't have his best stuff tonight, though that only manifested on the scoreboard on Mark Trumbo's grand slam. He walked four and allowed six hits. The right-hander came into tonight with a 1.38 ERA in his last two starts against the Diamondbacks, having received exactly zero runs of support in both games. San Francisco's offense couldn't get going tonight, either. Vogelsong (8-11, 3.98 ERA) will be in San Diego this weekend for a Sunday matinee against the Padres. Sep 16 - 12:42 AM

Ryan Vogelsong worked 6 2/3 shutout innings, allowing two hits, in a no-decision against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.

Vogelsong wasn't perfect, of course, striking out only two and walking five. He was yanked before reaching seven innings after cracking 100 pitches. Vogelsong appeared to turn the corner last month, going 3-1 with a 2.58 ERA in six starts, but was then eviscerated for a career-high eight runs (on four homers) over five innings at Colorado in his first start of September. Hopefully that start was a one-outing aberration. Vogelsong has a rematch against the Diamondbacks next week.
Sep 11 - 1:44 AM

Ryan Vogelsong picked up his eighth win of the season, holding the Brewers to two runs over seven innings as the Giants enjoyed a cakewalk 13-2 victory on Friday.

Vogelsong had a 3-0 lead after the first inning and an 8-1 lead after four, so it was a very stress-free night. The right-hander yielded only four hits and a walk while striking out seven, resulting in his first win since August 6. Vogelsong will take his 3.73 ERA, 1.24 WHIP, and 128/44 K/BB ratio into a start at Coors Field against the Rockies on Wednesday.
Aug 30 - 1:48 AM

Ryan Vogelsong allowed three runs over 5 1/3 innings in a no-decision against the Nationals on Sunday.

Vogelsong allowed four hits and walked four in the game, and he exited before the Nationals got busy hanging 11 runs on the Giants bullpen. The no-decision leaves Vogelsong's record at 7-9, and he owns a 3.78 ERA through 26 starts. He'll next take the mound Friday against the Brewers.
Aug 24 - 6:30 PM

Ryan Vogelsong took a loss on Thursday, allowing four runs over two innings, as play was resumed from Tuesday and the Cubs defeated the Giants by a 2-1 margin.

Play was halted after Vogelsong had allowed two runs through four innings, both on Anthony Rizzo's first-inning, two-run home run. It proved to be the deciding factor. Vogelsong did not pitch on Thursday, finishing the game having allowed three hits and two walks while striking out four. He'll take a 3.73 ERA and a 122/41 K/BB ratio into Sunday's road start against the Nationals.
Aug 21 - 8:34 PM

Ryan Vogelsong served up two runs on three hits over seven innings of Tuesday's no-decision opposite the White Sox.

Vogelsong struck out five and issued a pair of free passes. He had won two straight, allowing a total of two runs and nine hits over 15 innings, after going 0-5 with a 4.01 ERA over his previous six starts. Vogelsong (7-8, 3.71 ERA) has a decent matchup on deck against the Cubs at Wrigley.
Aug 13 - 1:53 AM

Ryan Vogelsong held the Brewers to one run in six innings Wednesday in a victory.

Carlos Gomez's leadoff homer was the only damage. After giving up eight runs -- seven earned -- and 19 hits over nine innings in his first two starts back from the All-Star break, he's allowed a total of two runs and nine hits over 15 innings in the last two.
Aug 7 - 12:49 AM

Ryan Vogelsong allowed just two hits in a complete game 5-1 win over the Mets on Friday night.

It was the second complete game of his career and his first of the nine-inning variety. Vogelsong needed 102 pitches to go the distance, walking just one batter while striking out five. This was his first win since way back on June 21, which brings him to 6-8 with a 3.74 ERA for the year. He'll try to keep it going next week against the Brewers in Milwaukee.
Aug 1 - 9:44 PM

Ryan Vogelsong was pulled after allowing four runs -- three earned -- and 11 hits in three-plus innings Monday against the Phillies.

It was an odd night at the ballpark, with the Giants and Phillies combining for 29 hits, 26 of them singles. All 11 that Vogelsong allowed were one-base hits. He didn't walk anyone and he struck out three, but there just wasn't any escape for him tonight. He was mostly just fortunate to end up with his ERA relatively intact.
Jul 21 - 11:17 PM

Ryan Vogelsong served up three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings of a Monday loss to the A's.

Vogelsong struck out four and walked two. This loss continued an infuriatingly inconsistent season from the veteran, who posted a 5.40 ERA in April, a 2.29 ERA in May, a 5.08 ERA in June, and then pitched well in yielding two runs over seven innings in his first July start against the Cardinals. It all adds up to a 5-6 record and 3.92 ERA. Vogelsong takes on the Diamondbacks this weekend.
Jul 8 - 1:21 AM

Ryan Vogelsong pitched well but was stuck with a loss on Wednesday, allowing two runs over seven innings while striking out eight Cardinals in a 2-0 setback.

Vogelsong limped out to a 5.40 ERA in April, had a superb May in which he went 3-1 with a 2.29 ERA, and then regressed in June to a 2-2 record and 5.08 ERA. He brought his good stuff to the park tonight, walking only one and holding St. Louis in the yard, but couldn't match Adam Wainwright. Despite Vogelsong's inconsistencies, he's collected a solid 3.86 ERA and 1.30 WHIP.
Jul 3 - 1:09 AM

Ryan Vogelsong was stuck with an unfortunate loss after hurling six innings of one-run ball against the Reds on Thursday.

Vogelsong scattered five hits and didn't walk a batter, striking out seven. The veteran's success was a bit unexpected, as he came in a shaky 1-1 with a 7.31 ERA over his last three starts, the last two of which he failed to exceed five innings worked. That's the problem with Vogelsong, even when he's pitching as well as he has been in 2014: It's difficult to trust him start-to-start in mixed leagues. Vogelsong (5-4, 3.96 ERA) will stare down Cardinals' batters on Wednesday.
Jun 27 - 1:07 AM

Ryan Vogelsong served up six runs on nine hits over six innings of a Monday loss to the Nationals.

Vogelsong, whose ugly career 8.74 ERA against Washington prior to tonight managed to get worse, punched out six and issued two free passes. He had been on a roll recently, entering this start 3-0 with a 2.05 ERA over his last four outings, having whiffed a career-high nine in his last game against the Reds. On the bright side, Vogelsong extended his streak of working at least six frames to nine straight outings. The veteran, now 4-3 with a 3.84 ERA, hosts Colorado on Saturday.
Jun 10 - 1:39 AM

Ryan Vogelsong improved to 4-2, allowing two runs in 6 1/3 innings in Wednesday's win over the Reds.

Aside from a shaky third inning in which he allowed a solo home run to Todd Frazier and an RBI double to Jay Bruce, Vogelsong was strong. The right-hander allowed seven hits, walked one, and struck out nine. The 36-year-old has had a fine season, now sporting a 3.39 ERA with a 1.28 WHIP and a 60/23 K/BB ratio in 69 innings. Vogelsong will face the Nationals at home in his next start.
Jun 4 - 10:36 PM

Ryan Vogelsong took the no-decision, allowing four runs over 6 1/3 innings in Thursday's win over the Cardinals.

Vogelsong entered Thursday's outing with quality starts in five of his last six outings. He struggled against the Cardinals, allowing seven hits along with three walks while striking out five. Now with a 3.52 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP, he'll go after his fourth win in his next start against the Reds on the road.
