Pirates signed RHP Ryan Vogelsong to a one-year contract.
He'll get $2 million guaranteed, with a possible $3 million more available in incentives. Vogelsong wasn't very good for the Giants last season with a 4.67 ERA and 1.47 WHIP over 135 innings, and he'll turn 39 just after the All-Star break. But, if any pitching coach can squeeze whatever he has left out of him, it's probably Ray Searage. Vogelsong, who previously pitched for the Pirates from 2001-2006, will open the season as the club's fifth starter. Fri, Dec 18, 2015 04:05:00 PM

Ryan Vogelsong was tagged for eight runs -- seven earned -- in three-plus innings by the Rockies on Thursday.

It should have happened prior to tonight, but maybe now the Giants will turn Vogelsong's rotation spot over to Tim Hudson. Vogelsong is 2-5 with a 6.84 ERA since the beginning of August.

Ryan Vogelsong struggled in a losing effort against the Pirates on Sunday night, surrendering three runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings.

Vogelsong also issued four free passes while striking out a pair. All of the damage against him came in the first inning, though he did allow a plethora of base runners the rest of the night as well. Now 9-9 on the season, Vogelsong will look to improve upon his 4.05 ERA and 1.40 WHIP when he squares off against the Cardinals on Saturday.

Ryan Vogelsong gave up just two hits over six scoreless innings Tuesday, leading the Giants to a 2-0 win over the Cardinals.

Vogelsong allowed just three baserunners in the game, striking out five in the victory. It was the second consecutive start in which Vogelsong has allowed one or fewer runs, improving his record to 9-8 on the year. Vogelsong owns a 3.93 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in advance of Sunday's start at the Pirates.

Ryan Vogelsong had issues with control in Thursday's win over the Nationals, walking four while allowing one run on three hits over five innings.

Vogelsong did strike out eight, but he threw just 52 of his 94 pitches for strikes. Even with the prolonged bout of wildness, he kept the Nationals off the scoreboard outside of a solo home run by Yunel Escobar in the first inning. For the season, he holds a 4.15 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 89/48 K/BB ratio over 110 2/3 innings. As long as Mike Leake is on the disabled list, Vogelsong should continue to start, though he's too inconsistent to trust outside of deeper NL-only formats.

Ryan Vogelsong was hit hard in Friday's spot start against the Cubs, allowing three runs on six hits over his four-plus frames.

On the plus side, the right-hander did rack up six strikeouts on the afternoon while walking only one. He'll draw at least one more start with Mike Leake heading to the disabled list, which will come against the Nationals on Thursday.

Ryan Vogelsong will make a spot start for the Giants on Friday in place of the injured Mike Leake.

Since being shifted to the bullpen in mid-July, Vogelsong has posted a 3.00 ERA and 5/1 K/BB ratio in six innings of work. As he's not stretched out, it wouldn't be surprising to see him last only four or five innings in Friday's start, so he isn't a recommended streaming option.

Ryan Vogelsong pitched a couple of scoreless innings for the win Friday as the Giants topped the Diamondbacks 6-5 in 12 innings.

It was Vogelsong's first win in relief since Sept. 2005. The plan is for him to remain in the pen for the foreseeable future, though that could always change if more injuries strike.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy announced Thursday that Ryan Vogelsong will begin the second half of the season in the bullpen.

He's the odd man out for the time being, with Matt Cain, Jake Peavy, Madison Bumgarner, Tim Hudson and Chris Heston taking the ball every fifth day. It's anticipated that Tim Lincecum will also head to the bullpen when he's ready to return.

Ryan Vogelsong and Bruce Bochy were ejected from Sunday night's game against the Nationals for arguing balls and strikes with home plate umpire Phil Cuzzi.

The Giants hitters had taken issue with Cuzzi's strike zone, as five hitters were rang up on called third strikes in the first five innings, while Vogelsong obviously felt he was getting squeezed. Before departing, the right-hander allowed one run on three hits and issued three walks over four-plus innings.

Ryan Vogelsong allowed four runs over six innings in a loss to the Marlins on Tuesday.

Vogelsong surrendered two home runs among his seven hits allowed, and he also walked three in the game. The right-hander struck out four in the start. Vogelsong fell to an even 6-6 with a 4.19 ERA and 1.37 WHIP through 14 starts. He'll next take on the Nationals on Sunday.

Ryan Vogelsong spun six shutout innings to earn the victory versus the Padres on Wednesday.

Same old story here. Entering this evening, Vogelsong was 4-9 with a 3.05 ERA in 21 starts at home since 2014 and 9-9 with a 5.04 ERA in 23 road starts. Once again, he excelled at AT&T Park, striking out four and scattering five hits. Outside of utter desperation, we can't recommend playing the veteran on the road. Despite a decent matchup on deck in Miami, you're on your own if you want to trot him out.

Ryan Vogelsong fired 6 2/3 shutout innings to earn a win versus the Mariners on Thursday.

He struck out six and walked two. Many daily players stacked Mariners tonight, an understandable stance: The 37-year-old Vogelsong entered this game 0-3 with a 6.61 ERA in June. He turned it around abruptly against a punchless Seattle offense which has gotten zero from Mark Trumbo thus far. Vogelsong has a stream-able start on deck with the Padres coming to AT&T Park next week, but starting him isn't for the faint of heart.

Ryan Vogelsong lasted just 3 2/3 innings Saturday in a loss to the Diamondbacks.

The D-backs got to Vogelsong for three in the first inning before finally knocking him out in the fourth. Vogelsong's five walks were a season-high. The 37-year-old is 0-3 this month with a 6.61 ERA. He'll likely head back to the pen when Matt Cain and Jake Peavy return from the disabled list.

Ryan Vogelsong suffered a loss on Sunday against the Phillies, taken for five runs in 6 2/3 innings.

Vogelsong was working on a quality start until the Phillies rallied for two runs in the seventh inning. Vogelsong had put runners on the corners with two outs, then was taken out in favor of reliever Javier Lopez. Lopez allowed both of Vogelsong's runners to score on a Jeff Francoeur double. Overall, Vogelsong gave up seven hits and walked two while striking out five. The right-hander has a mediocre 4.52 ERA with a 1.34 WHIP and a 48/24 K/BB ratio over 63 2/3 innings. He will try to bounce back at home against the Diamondbacks in his next start.
