Ryan Vogelsong will retire as a member of the Giants on Sunday.
That's fittingly where he enjoyed his most success in the majors, including a great performance during the 2012 postseason. He won two World Series rings with the club. The 40-year-old Vogelsong didn't pitch professionally this year after being released by the Twins during spring training. He'll walk away from the game with a 61-75 record and a 4.48 ERA over 179 starts and 110 relief appearances between the Giants and Pirates. Mon, Sep 11, 2017 03:05:00 PM

Twins released RHP Ryan Vogelsong; re-assigned RHPs Jake Reed and Raul Fernandez to minor league camp.

Vogelsong wasn't going to make the rotation, so the Twins threw him a bone and gave him a little more time to find a job elsewhere. The 39-year-old's velocity was way down this spring and he posted a 7.27 ERA, so it's hard to see other teams lining up to sign him.

Ryan Vogelsong yielded three runs in 2 1/3 innings Sunday in a loss to the Pirates.

The Trevor May injury gave Vogelsong's chances of making the Twins a big boost, but he still has some work to do to show he'll be worth carrying. He's allowed seven runs -- five earned -- and posted a 4/3 K/BB ratio in 6 2/3 innings.

Twins signed RHP Ryan Vogelsong to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Vogelsong missed over two months last season after being hit in the face by a pitch and posted a 4.81 ERA and 61/41 K/BB ratio over 82 1/3 innings with the Pirates. The 39-year-old provides some veteran insurance for the rotation and will attempt to win a roster spot in the spring.

Ryan Vogelsong tossed five innings of one-run ball but the Pirates fell to the Cardinals on Sunday.

Vogelsong did his part, but Pittsburgh's bullpen went on to cough up nine runs in the afternoon defeat at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Vogelsong finishes the 2016 season with a 4.81 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in 82 1/3 innings. He'll be a 39-year-old free agent this winter.

Ryan Vogelsong will start the Pirates' season finale against the Cardinals on Sunday.

The Pirates hadn't officially named a starter for the final game, and it looks like the veteran right-hander will get one more turn. That could be a good development for the Cardinals who are still in the thick of the National League wild card race.

Ryan Vogelsong was touched up for four runs while walking five batters over five innings in Tuesday's loss to the Cubs.

The five free passes were a season-high for the struggling right-hander. Over his last six starts, Vogelsong has yet to go more than five innings and has allowed at least four runs in five of six outings. Vogelsong's turn comes up Sunday in St. Louis, but the Pirates might give that start to someone else.

Ryan Vogelsong surrendered two runs on two hits over four innings in Thursday's loss to the Brewers.

Vogelsong struck out seven and walked two on the evening. A two-run home run by Scooter Gennett spelled the entirety of the scoring damage. As currently scheduled, the veteran right-hander will make starts against the Cubs and the Cardinals before the regular season closes out. Over 72 1/3 innings, Vogelsong has pitched to a 4.85 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 55/32 K/BB ratio. A facial fracture cost him a large chunk of the season.

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Tuesday that Ryan Vogelsong will remain in the starting rotation.

Vogelsong has a 10.19 ERA over his last four starts and he got hammered for six runs -- four earned -- over 4 2/3 innings last Friday by the last-place Reds. But the 75-75 Pirates really don't have anything to lose. "An opportunity to go back out there and get something done," Hurdle said. "We’re probably banking on his experience as well in a rotation that’s very young right now."

Pirates GM Neal Huntington hinted Sunday that Ryan Vogelsong could be removed from the rotation.

Vogelsong was lit up for six runs -- four earned -- over 4 2/3 innings Friday night by the last-place Reds and holds a brutal 10.19 ERA over his last four outings. "It certainly is a valid question, as to who gives us the best chance to win the next time or two times from now when his rotation spot comes up," said Huntington. "Ryan feels there’s a mechanical adjustment that he can and will make moving forward. It’s hard to walk away from his first stretch of starts for us."

Ryan Vogelsong was knocked around in a no-decision against the Reds on Friday, surrendering six runs (four earned) on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings.

Vogelsong punched out four on the night while walking two. Ramon Cabrera tagged him for a two-run homer in the second inning, then he kept the Reds off the board until they erupted for four and chased him in the fifth. He now sports a troublesome 4.87 ERA and 1.46 WHIP on the season and appears to be wearing down. He should be completely avoided for Thursday's matchup against the Brewers in Milwaukee.

Ryan Vogelsong was battered for six earned runs over four innings Sunday in a loss to the Reds.

Cincinnati pounced for five runs on a walk, two singles, and two triples in the top of the second inning. Vogelsong has been getting worse with every passing week and can't be trusted as a fantasy streamer at the moment, no matter the matchup. He gets the Reds again next time out.

Ryan Vogelsong lasted just four innings Tuesday, allowing five runs in a loss to the Cardinals.

Vogelsong put the Pirates in an early hole when he served up a grand slam to Yadier Molina in the first inning. Matt Adams also took him deep in the third. Vogelsong pitched well in his first five starts since rejoining the rotation, but he's struggled each of the last two times out. Assuming he isn't booted from the rotation, he'll get the Reds this weekend.

Ryan Vogelsong was charged with five runs in five-plus innings Wednesday in a loss to the Cubs.

Vogelsong got a little party afterwards anyway; he reached 10 years of service time this week, which maxes out his pension. The 39-year-old right-hander had been pretty good since rejoining the Pirates rotation on Aug. 4. He'll likely get a chance to finish out the year as a starter.

Ryan Vogelsong punched out six over 5 1/3 innings of two-run ball in Friday's victory over the Brewers.

The veteran right-hander allowed four hits and four walks on the night. All of the damage against him came in the sixth inning, where he allowed a pair of runners to reach who rode home on a three-run homer off the bat of Orlando Arcia after Vogelsong had departed. He has done a nice job thus far with the Pirates, registering a 3.02 ERA and 1.28 WHIP on the season. He draws a tough matchup next time out, taking on the Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday.
