Mariners released 1B/OF Xavier Nady.
Nady batted .236 (21-for-89) with two homers in 22 games for Triple-A Tacoma. It's not clear whether he exercised an opt-out clause in his contract, but either way he's now looking for a new home. Thu, Jun 26, 2014 06:56:00 PM

Mariners signed INF/OF Xavier Nady to a minor league contract.

Nady chose to become a free agent rather than accept an outright assignment by the Padres earlier this month. He will report to Triple-A Tacoma but could be called up relatively soon if he hits well.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman hears that the Mariners are considering signing Xavier Nady.

This confirms reporting from Bob Dutton of the Tacoma News Tribune. Nady was given the boot by the Padres earlier this month after hitting .135 (5-for-37) with three home runs in 22 games, but the Mariners could add him to help their corner outfield spots.

Xavier Nady has elected free agency.

Nady had been outrighted off the Padres' 40-man roster and has decided to look elsewhere for a job. He'll almost surely have to settle for a minor league deal.

Padres sent OF Xavier Nady outright to Triple-A El Paso.

Nady has three days to accept the assignment or declare free agency. He seems likely to get another shot later this season if he does accept it.

Padres designated OF Xavier Nady for assignment.

The move clears a spot for Kyle Blanks on the active roster. Nady gets the boot after hitting .135 (5-for-37) with three home runs in 22 games.

Xavier Nady hit his team-high third home run Thursday in the Padres' loss to the Rockies.

Nady is just 4-for-20 and the solo homers have given him his only RBI. Still, as much as the Padres are struggling for offense, they might decide to turn to him more often now. Besides Nady, their only player with multiple homers is Seth Smith, and his came in the first two games.

Xavier Nady will be on the Padres' Opening Day roster.

And he could get a decent amount of playing time early on while Carlos Quentin recovers from a knee injury. Nady hasn't appeared in the majors since the 2012 season, when he hit .184/.253/.316 in 166 plate appearances between the Nationals and Giants.

Xavier Nady went 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run on Wednesday against the Indians.

Nady, a non-roster invitee, is trying to prolong his career with a solid spring. The 35-year-old entered Wednesday hitting .316 in 19 at-bats, but with no extra-base hits. Nady doubled in the fourth off of Corey Kluber and homered off of Mark Rzepczynski in the sixth.

Padres signed OF/1B Xavier Nady to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Nady didn't play in the majors last season and hit .296/.360/.456 with 15 home runs and 65 RBI over 124 games at the Triple-A level between the Royals and Rockies. The 35-year-old was a second-round pick of the Padres in 2000 and spent his first four MLB seasons with the club.

Rockies signed OF/1B Xavier Nady to a minor league contract, assigned him to Triple-A Colorado Springs.

Nady opted out of his deal with the Royals because they didn't promote him despite a .310/.382/.486 batting line with 11 homers and 43 RBI at Triple-A. He figures to get a shot with the Rockies at some point later this summer.

Royals released OF/1B Xavier Nady.

It's not clear whether Nady had an opt-out clause in his contract, but that seems likely to be the case given that he was batting .310/.382/.486 with 11 homers and 43 RBI at Triple-A Omaha. He'll now look to catch on elsewhere.

Royals re-signed OF Xavier Nady to a minor league contract.

Nady was released by the Royals on Tuesday, but the two sides were able to quickly hammer out a new agreement. The 34-year-old will return to major league camp, but he's likely to begin the season in the minors.

Xavier Nady is dealing with plantar fasciitis in his foot.

He's been sidelined since March 13 with the ailment. Nady is batting .333/.364/.381 in 11 games this spring, but the foot injury certainly won't help his chances at winning a roster spot. It's not clear how much longer he'll be out.
