Albert Pujols said Friday that he lost 12-15 pounds over the offseason.
It's been rare the last few years that Pujols has had an offseason with a normal workout routine -- as he had this winter -- rather than one where he's been rehabbing from surgery. It was a goal for the future Hall of Famer to improve his conditioning since he's projected to play more first base in 2018, and it appears he's accomplished what he set out to do. Pujols hit 23 homers and drove in 101 runs in 2017 but posted a career-worst .672 OPS. Feb 16 - 11:47 AM

Albert Pujols said Sunday that improving his conditioning is his "main goal" for the offseason.

Pujols admitted that he might not have been in tip-top shape coming into the year after December foot surgery. It reflected in his lack of speed on the basepaths and his production. While he amassed 23 homers and 101 RBI, he posted a career-low .672 OPS. Pujols hopes to come back in better shape with a full offseason for conditioning. "Hopefully, start hitting a little bit earlier, start doing more weights, start doing my program like I normally do every year except the last couple, being hurt," said Pujols, who turns 38 in January. The future Hall of Famer is still owed $114 million over the next four seasons.

Albert Pujols hit his 23rd homer Wednesday against the Indians.

Pujols was showing signs of heating up at the beginning of the month, but he entered this one in a 4-for-29 funk. The homer was just his second in September. He is three RBI away from the century mark for the season.

Albert Pujols collected a pair of singles across four at-bats in Saturday's loss in Seattle.

The Angels might be on a three-game skid, but it is no fault of Pujols. He is 15-for-29 (.517) with a double and 11 RBI during the month of September while striking out just two times. He did not show any ill effects of the bone bruise in his left knee which kept him on the shelf on Wednesday.

Albert Pujols (knee) is back in the Angels' lineup Friday.

Pujols didn't play Wednesday due to a bone bruise in his left knee, but he feels well enough after the off day Thursday to give it a go. He's in the designated hitter spot and batting cleanup against Mike Leake and the Mariners.

Albert Pujols is expected to play Friday after being diagnosed with a bone bruise in his left knee.

Pujols was unavailable Wednesday due to soreness. Tests on the knee revealed the bone bruise. He'll play through it after getting an injection, but he'll surely cut back on all of the stolen base attempts.

Albert Pujols was sent back to Anaheim on Wednesday morning to undergo treatment on his sore left knee.

Mike Trout is starting at DH and Eric Young Jr. is playing center field in Wednesday afternoon's series finale at Oakland Coliseum. Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he expects Pujols to be ready for Friday night's series opener against the Mariners.

Pujols doubled home two runs in the first inning before plating two more runs with a single in the fifth. He now has 21 homers and 87 RBI despite an ugly .238/.282/.393 batting line. The 37-year-old has been the primary No. 3 hitter for the Angels this season, but he moved into the cleanup spot after the acquisition of Justin Upton on Thursday.

Albert Pujols collected three singles with a run scored and two RBI in Friday's game in Seattle.

Pujols snapped a 3-for-34 skid with the three-hit performance. It's been all of nothing lately for Pujols, as he has four three-hit games since June 22, but he also has 10 hitless outings during the stretch. He is hitting just .209 with a home run and seven RBI in 10 games in August.

Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Wednesday.

Albert Pujols went hitless for the fourth time in five games Monday, dropping his average to .228.

Pujols went 6-for-9 with three homers in a two-game stretch last week, but he's just 2-for-26 with no RBI or walks since and his OPS is back down to .651. If the Angels had anyone else worth playing, it'd probably be time for them to consider making a switch. They're options are lacking, though.
