Albert Pujols is in the designated hitter spot Wednesday due to soreness in his surgically-repaired right knee.
Pujols has now started 17 games at first base and 15 in the designated hitter spot due to issues with his right knee and left foot. The ailments no doubt have contributed to a disappointing .231/.317/.397 batting line this season. Mark Trumbo is playing first base Wednesday. May 8 - 6:50 PM

Date:

Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Sunday.

Pujols is just 2-for-20 at the plate since his two-homer game last Wednesday, so he's getting a breather. Mark Trumbo is playing first base Sunday, while Hank Conger is in the DH spot.
May 5 - 12:30 PM

Albert Pujols launched a solo home run in a loss to the Orioles on Thursday.

It was his only hit in four at-bats and the lone run for the Angels. Pujols now has three homers and six RBI over his last four games after going 3-for-31 (.097) with zero homers and two RBI in his previous eight. Fantasy owners will have to hope that this is the start to a resurgence similar to what we saw after the start of May last season.
May 3 - 12:47 AM

Albert Pujols finished 4-for-8 with two homers in Monday's 19-inning game against the A's.

The homers off Dan Straily and Pat Neshek were Pujols' first since his two-homer game back on April 6. He also had more hits tonight than he did in his previous eight games combined. The Angels need it to be the start of a hot streak, as they're not getting much from Mike Trout and Josh Hamilton around him.
Apr 30 - 4:46 AM

Albert Pujols will play first base for the second straight day Friday.

This will be his first time playing back-to-back games at first base since April 11-12. He said Thursday that he's hoping to play first base in three out of the four games this weekend in Seattle and then Monday and Tuesday in Oakland, so apparently his left foot is feeling better.
Apr 26 - 6:32 PM

Albert Pujols is playing first base on Thursday versus the Mariners.

It's the first time since April 15 that he's manned a position, as the plantar fasciitis in Pujols' left foot has been limiting him to DH duties. He still figures to be used in the DH spot often over the course of the season as the Halos try to keep him as healthy as possible. Mark Trumbo will be the DH Thursday.
Apr 25 - 6:35 PM

Albert Pujols is being relegated to designated hitter as he struggles with plantar fasciitis in his foot.

"I'm dying. It's hurting real bad," Pujols said of the injury. The 33-year-old has played DH for four straight games and if the condition gets any worse the only alternative may be a stint on the disabled list. That's not in the Angels' plans at the moment, but they've at least discussed the possibility, according to general manager Jerry Dipoto.
Apr 21 - 3:43 PM

Albert Pujols had a 4-for-4 night Wednesday in a losing cause against the A's.

Pujols doubled twice and scored twice. He's 8-for-12 with two homers and six walks in his last four games.
Apr 11 - 2:05 AM

Albert Pujols will DH for the second straight day in Sunday night's game against the Rangers.

Pujols could be asked to do more DHing this season as a way of managing his foot/knee injuries, but the Angels' still view him as their full-time first baseman. He hit two home runs out of the DH spot Saturday, so there's no reason to rush him back. Mark Trumbo will continue to fill in at first base.
Apr 7 - 4:35 PM

Albert Pujols hit two home runs on Saturday afternoon in the Angels' 8-4 win over the Rangers.

Pujols absolutely loves hitting in Arlington. He probably would have done much more damage, but the Rangers intentionally walked him three times to get to the struggling Josh Hamilton. If Pujols can stay healthy, he's going to be a monster again in fantasy leagues.
Apr 6 - 7:18 PM

Albert Pujols will serve as the designated hitter for Saturday's game against the Rangers.

The Angels are just looking to reduce the workload on Pujols after he missed time in spring training with foot/knee injuries. Mark Trumbo will replace him at first base Saturday.
Apr 6 - 12:59 PM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-2 with a double in Sunday's game against the Giants.

After getting off to a slow start, Pujols is now batting .353 with three home runs and a 1.127 OPS this spring. He played the majority of Sunday's game at first base, so it's another sign that he's close to being over his foot/knee injuries. Pujols is expected to be in the Angels' starting lineup on Opening Day.
Mar 24 - 9:51 PM

Albert Pujols singled and ripped a solo homer Thursday against the Rangers.

He also played first base, which is a good sign that the plantar fasciitis in his left foot (as well as his surgically-repaired knee) is feeling better. Pujols is now batting .345 with three homers this spring.
Mar 21 - 11:20 PM

Albert Pujols told reporters Wednesday that he isn't concerned about the plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

"I'm sore but it's nothing really dramatic that I say I can't play," said Pujols, who said that he's had plantar fasciitis off and on for seven years. "Right now I'm just concentrating on getting on my knee strong. I can handle the plantar fasciitis." Pujols is in the lineup as the DH on Wednesday after he made his spring debut at first base on Tuesday. Barring any setbacks, he should be back at first base on Thursday, marking the first time that he has played three games in a row this spring.
Mar 20 - 1:34 PM

Albert Pujols is dealing with some plantar fasciitis in his left foot.

Pujols played first base for the first time this spring Tuesday, and he appears to have gotten over the hump with his surgically-repaired knee. He now has the foot issue to battle through. Angels manager Mike Scioscia isn't concerned, but Pujols might go back to the DH spot Wednesday.
