Albert Pujols hit a broken-bat RBI single to help the Angels walk off winners in the bottom of the ninth against the Padres on Monday.
Padres closer Craig Kimbrel was trying to clean up Kevin Quackenbush's mess and walked Mike Trout to load the bases with two outs to face Pujols. Pujols broke his bat, but was strong enough to drive a grounder into left field for the walk-off hit. He finished 1-for-5 on the night. The veteran first baseman is batting a mediocre .228/.280/.420 with eight home runs and 17 RBI. May 26 - 12:23 AM

Albert Pujols (hand) is not in the Angels' starting lineup on Thursday night against the Blue Jays.

Pujols was hit on the lower part of his left hand Wednesday by a Drew Hutchison pitch. X-rays showed no fractures, but he still has some soreness and bruising. Marc Krauss will start at first base and bat second Thursday in Toronto. Mike Trout will bat third.
May 21 - 3:29 PM

Angels general manager Jerry Dipoto said Albert Pujols is "OK" and will be day to day with a bruised hand.

Dipoto added that there are no fractures or broken bones in Pujols' left hand or wrist. Pujols may sit out Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, but he should avoid a disabled list stint. He got struck with a Drew Hutchinson pitch on Wednesday night.
May 20 - 11:22 PM

Albert Pujols underwent tests on his left hand and wrist Wednesday night.

The first baseman was hit by a Drew Hutchison pitch in the hand and wrist area during Wednesday's game, eventually necessitating his exit. The immediate diagnosis from the Angels was a left hand contusion, but that doesn't appear to be the end of the story. Reports had Pujols leaving the ballpark with a cast on his wrist. The results of Wednesday's tests, and Pujols' prognosis going forward, should be known Thursday.
May 20 - 10:07 PM

Albert Pujols has been diagnosed with a left hand contusion.

It's a fortunate diagnosis, as it certainly seemed possible something was broken after he was hit by a Drew Hutchison pitch. It sounds like he'll only miss a day or two, but more should be known Thursday.
May 20 - 8:42 PM

Albert Pujols left Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays after being hit on the left wrist by a pitch.

Pujols actually stayed in the game after the HBP, but Marc Krauss pinch-hit for him in his next at-bat. It's the same wrist he was sidelined by in 2011. The Angels should provide an update on his outlook after the game.
May 20 - 8:30 PM

Albert Pujols hit a solo home run off of Wei-Yin Chen in Friday's win over the Orioles.

The home run would be Pujols only hit in a well-pitched game. The veteran slugger finished 1-for-4. After a hot start to the season, Pujols has cooled off to a .232/.287/.408 line. He's hit six home runs and has driven in 14 while scoring 16 runs.
May 15 - 9:57 PM

Albert Pujols's sacrifice fly in the 11th inning sent the Angels to a 2-1 walkoff win against the Rockies on Wednesday.

With the bases loaded in the 11th, Pujols lifted a fly to Corey Dickerson which was shallow enough to give Dickerson at least a shot to gun down pinch runner Taylor Featherston, but the throw was errant. It was the third walkoff victory of the season for the Angels, who evened their second to 17-17. Pujols finished 1-for-4 with a double. He's slashing .231/.288/.388.
May 14 - 1:44 AM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-3 with a walk and a two-run home run in Tuesday's win over the Mariners.

Pujols gave the Angels an early 2-0 lead when he drove a James Paxton offering to left-center in the first inning. It's the 525th homer of Pujols' career. He's 18th on the all-time home run leaderboard, nine shy of tying Jimmie Foxx at 534. The first baseman is batting .239/.314/.435 with five home runs and 12 RBI on the season.
May 6 - 12:57 AM

Albert Pujols slugged his fourth home run of the season Saturday in the Angels' loss to the Giants.

The seventh-inning shot off Tim Hudson was Albert's only hit of the game. He sat out Thursday and Friday with a left hamstring injury but told reporters late Saturday that it's no longer bothering him. The 35-year-old is batting just .210/.289/.395 on the young season, but he should be good for 25-plus dingers if he can stay mostly healthy.
May 2 - 8:45 PM

Albert Pujols (hamstring) has returned to the Angels starting lineup on Saturday.

He's slotted in his regular third slot in the Angels lineup and will play first base. Before he sustained the injury, the veteran slugger was hitting just .208/.291/.364 with three homers and nine RBI in 21 games.
May 2 - 2:12 PM

Albert Pujols said Thursday that his left hamstring was feeling better and that he's hopeful of playing Saturday or Sunday in San Francisco.

The Angels are likely to take things cautiously with their veteran slugger, so while he could appear as a pinch-hitter over the weekend, it would be surprising to see him return to the lineup so quickly.
