Albert Pujols slugged a go-ahead three-run homer in the eighth inning to lead the Angels to a 6-3 victory over the Rangers.
It was his third homer of the season and the 594th of his career. The 37-year-old has hit safely in eight straight games, pulling his batting average up from .177 to .247. It’s no secret that Pujols has been trending downward in recent years, but there’s still some thump in his bat and he’s going to get plenty of opportunities to knock in runs in this lineup. Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI single in Sunday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Pujols' RBI single off Marcus Stroman in the third inning represented the only run-scoring action in this game up until the eighth, when the Blue Jays broke through for four runs. For his part, veteran slugger Pujols is hitting .237/.284/.355 with two home runs and 15 RBI. He had a pair of three-hit showings against the Jays during this weekend's series, perhaps a sign that a little hot streak could be coming soon.

Albert Pujols went 3-for-7 with a double and three RBI in Friday's 13-inning game against the Jays.

Unfortunately, he couldn't come through with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the 13th, producing an ugly strikeout against Joe Biagini. Pujols still raised his average from .177 to .203 tonight.
Apr 22 - 3:54 AM

Albert Pujols belted a three-run homer Tuesday in the Angels' 5-2 victory over the Astros.

Pujols has managed 11 RBI in 14 games while hitting right behind Mike Trout, but he's batting just .204/.259/.333. He's now seven homers away from 600 for his career.
Apr 19 - 1:33 AM

Albert Pujols is not in the Angels' lineup Monday.

It's a routine day off. Jefry Marte is in the designated hitter spot. The Halos also have Ben Revere in left field for the third straight game over Cameron Maybin (although Maybin played center on Saturday).
Apr 17 - 4:47 PM

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with an RBI in Saturday's game in Kansas City while making the start at first base.

It was the first game for Pujols in the field since Aug. 10, 2016. With the Angels playing 37 games in 38 days manager Mike Scioscia wanted to give Mike Trout a partial rest and use him as the designated hitter. Pujols has struggled with his feet over the past few seasons, but he made it through his defensive adventure without any issues.
Apr 16 - 1:19 AM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and three total RBI in Sunday's win over the Mariners.

This was just a remarkable ninth inning, unless you were a Mariners fan, in which case, condolences. Pujols started the improbable six-run comeback with a solo home run to lead off the frame. He would come around to bat once more with two outs in the inning, notching a two-run single against Edwin Diaz to tie the contest at 9-9. Cliff Pennington then proceeded to end matters with a walk-off RBI single. The Angels finished off the first week of the season holding a surprising 5-2 record. So long as Pujols can remain healthy, his veteran bat remains capable of power and RBI damage. As the Mariners can attest to.
Apr 9 - 7:30 PM

Albert Pujols went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Saturday's win over the Mariners.

Pujols had one hit in 20 at-bats coming into the contest. He was ahead of schedule this spring in his return from offseason foot surgery, and it's fair to wonder whether he is -- or ever will be again -- totally healthy. The 37-year-old is hitting .167/.200/.208 through six games.
Apr 9 - 1:43 AM

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 with an RBI on Thursday, leaving him 1-for-16 to start the season.

The A's intentionally walked Pujols to face C.J. Cron earlier in the series, and while it worked out fine, we're assuming it's not going to be much longer that teams will prefer facing Cron to facing Pujols. Pujols isn't through being a fantasy asset, but the batting average and OBP probably won't impress.
Apr 6 - 6:29 PM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with a two-run double and two runs scored Monday against Arizona.

There were questions about Pujols’ readiness coming into the spring after he required surgery in December for plantar fasciitis, but he has proved his health by hitting .343 (12-for-35) with a .981 OPS during Cactus League action. The 37-year-old might not be the hitter he once was, but he’s still capable of piling up valuable counting stats, especially with Mike Trout hitting in front of him.
Mar 27 - 7:41 PM

Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Saturday's Cactus League win over the Diamondbacks.

Pujols connected for homer No. 2 of the spring against Taijuan Walker in the very first inning. After he underwent surgery to repair plantar fascitis during the offseason, the Angels have been slowly working him back into the fold this spring. Pujols is no longer the all-around fantasy destroy of worlds that he was in his youth, but still offers legitimate power upside, having socked 31 homers and driven in 119 runs during the 2016 campaign. If he is to come close to those numbers again, health will be critical for the veteran during the coming season.
Mar 25 - 7:27 PM

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI in a win over the Rockies on Thursday.

Both of his hits were RBI singles. He is now 5-for-12 so far in Cactus League games after spending the offseason battling a foot injury. Pujols is now 37 years old but still likely to be an asset in fantasy lineups. He turned in a .268 batting average with 31 home runs and 119 RBI a year ago.
Mar 16 - 8:45 PM

Albert Pujols slugged his first home run of the spring Monday against the Dodgers.

It was the only offense of the day for the Angels. Pujols was facing some questions coming into the spring after undergoing surgery in December for plantar fasciitis, but he appears on track for Opening Day.
Mar 13 - 7:19 PM

Albert Pujols (foot) is in the designated hitter spot and batting third in his Cactus League debut on Friday.

Pujols has been brought along slowly this spring after plantar fasciitis surgery over the offseason, but he cleared his final hurdle on Thursday when he made it through a baserunning drill without issue. It's unclear when he'll be allowed to play first base, but the future Hall of Famer is going to serve mostly as a DH this season, anyway.
Mar 10 - 10:45 AM

Albert Pujols (foot) has been cleared to make his Cactus League debut on Friday.

Pujols made it through a final baserunning tuneup on Thursday without issue. He's been doing hitting, fielding, and defensive drills for weeks. The veteran slugger looks to be at or near full strength leading into the 2017 regular season after undergoing surgery in December for his chronic plantar fasciitis issues.
