Albert Pujols (foot) has been medically cleared to begin hitting baseballs off a tee.
Pujols underwent surgery to repair the plantar plate of his right foot in early November. The veteran slugger's initial timetable had him resuming full baseball activity in late March, meaning a probable DL stint. Tuesday's clearance for hitting the ball off the tee shouldn't affect that. If the team is slow to bring him back into action, it's likely because this was Pujols' second surgery in the last three years (he underwent knee surgery in 2012) and he just turned 36. Albert Pujols will be sidelined for the next 4 1/2 months after undergoing surgery last week to repair the plantar plate in his right foot.

Pujols has dealt with plantar fasciitis issues in recent seasons, but this is the first time he's had the problem addressed via the surgical route. The timetable means he won't be ready for full baseball activities until late March, so Pujols is going to get a late start to the 2016 season. How late remains to be seen. Pujols batted .244/.307/.480 with 40 homers and 95 RBI for the Angels this season.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-2 eliminating loss to the Rangers.

Pujols started the Angels out on the best possible foot, swatting a two-run homer off Rangers ace Cole Hamels in the first inning. The Rangers would go on to score nine runs, though, while Pujols and friends wouldn't score again in the contest. The loss officially eliminates the Angels from the playoffs. Despite the sour end to his 2015 campaign, veteran slugger Pujols put up some grand numbers, including a .244/.307/.480 triple-slash, 40 homers and 95 RBI. This is his seventh season with at least 40 home runs and his first since 2010. Not too shabby for a 35-year-old.

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead RBI single in the ninth inning of Friday's 2-1 win over the Rangers.

After Mike Trout hit a triple to lead off the ninth inning, Pujols stepped up with an RBI single to snap a 1-1 tie and propel the Angels to a crucial road win in their final series of the season. The veteran slugger is hitting .242/.305/.475 with 39 homers and 93 RBI. He's homered four times in his last 10 games.

Albert Pujols homered and doubled in a losing cause Thursday against the Rangers.

Pujols' pace has certainly slowed down -- he hit .188 with four homers in September -- but he's now up to 39 homers for the year. It's his high total since he hit 42 in 2010. Unfortunately, because of his .241 average, he could still finish with the lowest OPS of his career.

Albert Pujols had three hits, three runs scored, and a stolen base in Tuesday's 8-1 victory over the Athletics.

Pujols hit an RBI double to put the Angels up 1-0 in the first inning and quickly came around to score on David Murphy's RBI single. He singled, stole second base, and scored in the fourth. In the fifth, he singled and scored for the third time. Pujols carries a .241/.304/.471 batting line with 38 home runs, 91 RBI, 81 runs scored, and five stolen bases on the year.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with a solo home run on Monday as the Angels walked off 5-4 victors over the Athletics.

Pujols knotted the game up at 4-4 in the bottom of the sixth, taking a Felix Doubront offering out to left-center. It's number 38 on the season for Pujols and the 558th of his career. He's five home runs shy of tying Reggie Jackson for 13th on the all-time home run leaderboard, but he'll probably have to wait until next year to do that. Pujols also has 90 RBI and a .237/.301/.468 triple-slash line.

Albert Pujols went 2-for-4 with his 36th home run of the season in Tuesday's win over the Astros.

Pujols followed Mike Trout's two-run homer in the first inning with a solo shot of his own. His 36 homers are the most since he hit 37 in 2011, his last season with the Cardinals. The power is a bright spot, but he's hitting an un-Pujols-like .238/.300/.465 on the year as he's struggled with foot issues.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia acknowledged Wednesday that Albert Pujols is still having trouble with his right foot.

Pujols went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Wednesday's loss to the Mariners and is batting just .219/.269/.376 in 55 games since the All-Star break. He's been battling foot issues for years. "There's no doubt his base and strength isn't quite the same because of his foot," Scioscia said late Wednesday. "It affects other parts of his body and his swing, and it's tough for him to leverage right now. But he's a gamer, and he's going to go out there and do everything he can to put the ball in play."

An MRI on Albert Pujols' right foot showed only inflammation.

Pujols has been playing with pain in the foot for a while, but he began taking medication Monday and is feeling better. He's in the designated hitter spot Tuesday.

Albert Pujols (foot) is in Monday's lineup at DH.

Pujols underwent an MRI on his sore right foot, but hasn't received the results as of yet. While he hasn't been cleared to play the field, both Pujols and Mike Scioscia indicated that he would still be good to DH. This is the case for Monday's showdown with the Dodgers and could well be the case for the rest of the season.

Albert Pujols is scheduled to undergo an MRI on his ailing right foot on Monday.

Regardless of what the exam shows though, Pujols made it clear that it won't change anything and that he intends to keep playing. While he plans to remain in the lineup, the most logical scenario is that he is forced to DH for the remainder of the season with C.J. Cron manning first base.

Albert Pujols is dealing with pain in his right foot and might have to DH for the rest of the season.

Pujols hasn't looked like himself in the second half (.235 average, .418 slugging percentage) and his ailing foot is probably to blame. The veteran has dealt with plantar fasciitis in the past so he has a history of foot problems. Expect C.J. Cron to play plenty of first base down the stretch.

Albert Pujols slugged his 35th home run of the season Wednesday in the Angels' 9-4 defeat of the A's.

Pujols reached on an infield single and scored a run in the Angels' four-run first inning and then took A's starter Sonny Gray deep to left-center field for a two-run shot in the top of the second. Albert recorded his third RBI of the day on a fielder's choice groundout in the top of the ninth. The 35-year-old is having a resurgent season in the counting stats department, but he still owns a relatively underwhelming .803 overall OPS.

Albert Pujols went 1-for-3 with an RBI single in Thursday's win over the Tigers.

Pujols picked up his lone hit and RBI in the sixth inning, when he singled home Kole Calhoun. While he's scuffled considerably over the last month, he's still hitting .252/.311/.501 with 34 homers and 75 RBI this season. The 34 homers are the most he's hit since 2011, when he played for the Cardinals and launched 37 dingers.
