Albert Pujols went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's blowout loss to the Rangers.
It's strange to see an elite hitter like Pujols toil below the Mendoza Line, but at least the power has continued to show up. He has four homers in his last six games and is hitting 7-for-24 (.292) over that same stretch. The 36-year-old is no longer a perennial .300 hitter; however, he's far better than he has been thus far in 2016. Only Kyle Seager entered Saturday's slate of games with a lower BABIP than Pujols' .143 BABIP through his first 24 games. Apr 30 - 11:55 PM

Albert Pujols hit his fourth and fifth homers of the year to help the Angels beat the Royals 6-1 on Monday.

Pujols has as many homers as singles through his first 76 at-bats. But maybe that shouldn't come as a huge surprise, given that he finishes last year with a .244 average and 40 homers. It's too often all or nothing from him lately.

Albert Pujols went 0-for-4 on Thursday, leaving him 9-for-61 (.148) to start the season.

Pujols has two homers and 10 RBI batting behind Mike Trout, but as has been the trend, he's just not much for singles or doubles these days. He hit .244 with his 40 homers last year, and he might do worse there this year.
Apr 21 - 5:37 PM

Albert Pujols connected for his first home run of the season Friday against the Twins.

Pujols took left-hander Tommy Milone deep for a solo shot in the seventh inning to tie the game. The 36-year-old went 2-for-3 with a walk on the night. While he’s batting just .216/.293/.324 on the year, he has hit safely in five straight games and has driven in three runs over his last three.

Albert Pujols will start at first base Monday against the Athletics.

It will be his first start at first base this season. While Pujols is apparently feeling good, it hasn't translated at the plate thus far. He's batting .125 (3-for-24) through six games.

Albert Pujols hit a walk-off RBI single to beat the Rangers 4-3 on Thursday.

Pujols finished Thursday's contest 2-for-5. On his big walk-off hit, the age-less slugger stepped to the plate in the ninth inning against Rangers reliever Shawn Tolleson. With the bases loaded, Tolleson would throw just two pitches. Pujols drove the second one all the way to the center field wall for what was deemed an RBI single. In a normal, non-game-ending situation, that moonshot likely would have been good for at least a two-run double, if not a bases-clearing two-bagger. As it stands, single. While it is unlikely that Pujols matches the 40 homers he hit last season -- his last 40-homer season before 2015 came in 2010 -- he can still drill mistake pitches and should be considered a reasonably safe bet for 25 homers and 80 RBI if he can maintain his health.

Albert Pujols socked his fifth home run of Cactus League play on Monday versus the Cubs.

Mike Trout and Pujols went back-to-back against Kyle Hendricks in the fourth inning. Pujols entered spring training as a question mark while he rehabbing a surgically-repaired foot, but he's provided plenty of pop with the five longballs.
Mar 28 - 7:15 PM

Albert Pujols (foot) was back in the Angels' lineup Saturday.

Pujols had to leave Friday's game after being hit by a pitch in his surgically-repaired right foot, but obviously he's fine. The slugger will be ready to roll on Opening Day after making a quicker-than-expected recovery from surgery last November.
Mar 27 - 12:16 PM

Albert Pujols had to leave Friday's game after being hit by a pitch in his surgically-repaired right foot.

The good news is that Pujols initially stayed in the game to run the bases before being pulled an inning later for a pinch-hitter. It sounds like this was a precautionary removal, as the Angels are saying he simply has a bruised foot and is considered day-to-day.
Mar 25 - 5:26 PM

Albert Pujols homered twice, collecting four RBI, as the Angels rolled the Brewers 15-7 on Saturday.

Still serving as the team's designated hitter, Pujols hit a solo shot in the third inning before launching a two-run blast later in the same inning. Both came off Brewers starter Wily Peralta. Pujols now has three home runs and nine RBI this spring. He's not the generational hitter he once was, but the 36-year-old still has the pop to be a mixed league regular.
Mar 19 - 8:35 PM

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said Monday that Albert Pujols (foot) is getting closer to playing first base in a game.

Pujols, who underwent surgery in November to repair the plantar plate in his foot, has been limited to DH action so far in Cactus League player. The Angels aren't going to push him, but he's making progress. "He’s shown good movement around, but we’re going to tread lightly with that," said Scioscia.
Mar 14 - 4:10 PM

Albert Pujols hit his first home run of Cactus League play, a two-run shot, as the Angels downed the Giants 9-5 on Saturday.

Pujols took Jake Peavy deep in the first inning to get on the board. He finished 1-for-3. Pujols didn't have an extra-base hit in 11 at-bats coming into the game after making his spring debut a week ago, and he'll continue to be eased in as works back from surgery on his plantar plate last November. His availability for Opening Day doesn't seem to be in question.
Mar 12 - 7:15 PM

Albert Pujols went 0-for-3 in his Cactus League debut Sunday versus the Royals.

Pujols popped out to short with two men on in the first inning, grounded into a doubleplay after a Mike Trout walk in the third inning, and then led off the sixth with another groundout. Pujols is being eased into action this spring as he recovers from November surgery on his plantar plate. He should be 100 percent -- or something close to that -- by Opening Day.
Mar 6 - 7:21 PM

Albert Pujols (foot) will make his Cactus League debut in the Angels' designated hitter spot on Sunday.

Pujols' recovery from surgery in November to repair the plantar plate in his foot has come along quicker than expected. He's been hitting without any restrictions and recently began running the bases and ramping up his defensive work. Barring a setback, he should be ready on Opening Day.
Mar 4 - 12:31 PM

Albert Pujols (foot) is scheduled to run the bases Tuesday and ramp up his defensive work.

It will be his first time running the bases since undergoing surgery in November to repair the plantar plate in his foot. Pujols could play in games this weekend and now appears to have a good shot to be ready for Opening Day, though the Angels will likely keep him in the DH spot on early on.
