Lyle Overbay said on MLB Network Radio on Sirius XM on Wednesday that he's "99.9 percent sure" that he'll retire.
Overbay appeared in 121 games with the Brewers this season while batting just .233/.328/.333 with four home runs and 28 RBI. Assuming he's done, the 37-year-old will finish his career with a .266 batting average to go along with 1,355 hits, 151 home runs and 675 RBI over 14 seasons. Wed, Oct 1, 2014 12:11:00 PM

Lyle Overbay doubled in the ninth inning, helping set the Brewers up to take the lead and defeat the Pirates on Saturday.

Overbay finished 2-for-3 with a walk and the double, which pushed Elian Herrera to third base. Herrera later scored, breaking a scoreless tie, on a Logan Schafer sacrifice fly. The 37-year-old Overbay has mustered a .241/.339/.347 slash line on the season with four home runs and 35 RBI.

Lyle Overbay had a walk-off RBI single in Friday's 3-2 win over the Reds.

Jonathan Lucroy doubled off Jumbo Diaz to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning and moved over to third base on a groundout from Aramis Ramirez. Reds manager Bryan Price then had Diaz walk Ryan Braun and Gerardo Parra intentionally to face Overbay, who slashed a pitch into the left-center field gap to win it. The Brewers have won three straight and remain 1 1/2 games behind the Pirates for the second Wild Card spot in the National League.

Lyle Overbay crushed a first-inning grand slam, but it wasn't enough as the Brewers were defeated by the Phillies on Tuesday.

Overbay's salami was his only hit in five at-bats, staking the Brewers to a 5-1 lead at the time. It was his first home run since June 22. The first baseman otherwise hasn't done much at the plate in his limited playing time, slashing .236/.317/.352 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 186 plate appearances.

Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.

Overbay drove in one of the Brewers' two runs with an RBI double in the fourth inning. The 37-year-old first baseman hasn't done much at the dish for the Brewers overall, slashing a meager .227/.310/.320 despite facing right-handed pitching almost exclusively.

Brewers activated 1B Lyle Overbay from the paternity leave list.

He was away for a few days while his wife gave birth. Overbay will continue to see regular playing time at first base against right-handers.

Brewers placed 1B Lyle Overbay on the paternity leave list.

Paternity leave can last between one and three days. Elian Herrera was called up in a corresponding move.

Lyle Overbay went 0-for-3 with a walk on Monday, leaving him 2-for-20 this season.

The Brewers have started giving Mark Reynolds some starts against righties, and it's a trend that should continue with Reynolds off to a nice start. Overbay isn't worth owning in NL-only leagues.

Lyle Overbay, making his first official appearance for the Brewers since 2005, went 0-for-3 against the Braves on Opening Day.

The Brewers would be foolish to use Overbay and Mark Reynolds in a straight platoon at first base, but that might be the way it plays out initially. Overbay hit .240/.295/.393 with Yankee Stadium helping him last year, and at 37, he's not getting any younger.

Brewers selected the contract of INF Lyle Overbay from Triple-A Nashville.

The 37-year-old slashed just .222/.364/.267 with two RBI and 16 strikeouts in 45 at-bats this spring, but was able to land a spot on the Opening Day roster as a platoon option at first base. He holds no fantasy value outside of NL-only formats.

Lyle Overbay didn't record an official at-bat in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, walking in all three of his plate appearances and scoring a run.

The veteran first baseman has posted a .450 on-base percentage early in Cactus League play, and could be a candidate to make the Opening Day roster as a platoon option at first base.

Brewers signed 1B Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Overbay hit .289/.376/.464 with 35 home runs and 159 RBI in 317 games for Milwaukee during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but that was his prime and he's a very different player now at age 36 (almost 37). He'll be competing for a share of the action at first base.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are among the teams talking to Lyle Overbay about a minor league deal.

Overbay, who turns 37 later this month, batted .240/.295/.393 with 14 home runs over 486 plate appearances last year with the Yankees. He's unlikely to find similar playin time in 2014, but he could be useful as a backup first baseman and left-handed bench bat.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Lyle Overbay "remains on the Astros’ short list of low-cost first basemen."

Cafardo adds that Houston "would love to have a veteran who could push Brett Wallace." Currently, Wallace is in line to compete with Marc Krauss, Jesus Guzman, Japhet Amador and Jonathan Singleton for the first base gig. Overbay batted just .240/.295/.393 last season for the Yankees but did slug 14 homers. Whoever winds up as the Astros' Opening Day first baseman will just be keeping the seat warm until Singleton is ready.

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there has been "very little activity" with Lyle Overbay this winter.

Overbay socked a surprising 14 homers for the Yankees last season but batted just .240/.295/.393 overall. Cafardo thinks the veteran first baseman will "likely wind up as someone’s backup or a low-cost option for a team such as the Orioles or Indians."
