Lyle Overbay crushed a first-inning grand slam, but it wasn't enough as the Brewers were defeated by the Phillies on Tuesday.
Overbay's salami was his only hit in five at-bats, staking the Brewers to a 5-1 lead at the time. It was his first home run since June 22. The first baseman otherwise hasn't done much at the plate in his limited playing time, slashing .236/.317/.352 with four home runs and 25 RBI in 186 plate appearances. Jul 8 - 11:37 PM

Lyle Overbay went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Tuesday's loss to the Mets.

Overbay drove in one of the Brewers' two runs with an RBI double in the fourth inning. The 37-year-old first baseman hasn't done much at the dish for the Brewers overall, slashing a meager .227/.310/.320 despite facing right-handed pitching almost exclusively.

Brewers activated 1B Lyle Overbay from the paternity leave list.

He was away for a few days while his wife gave birth. Overbay will continue to see regular playing time at first base against right-handers.
Apr 20 - 11:24 AM

Brewers placed 1B Lyle Overbay on the paternity leave list.

Paternity leave can last between one and three days. Elian Herrera was called up in a corresponding move.
Apr 17 - 11:52 AM

Lyle Overbay went 0-for-3 with a walk on Monday, leaving him 2-for-20 this season.

The Brewers have started giving Mark Reynolds some starts against righties, and it's a trend that should continue with Reynolds off to a nice start. Overbay isn't worth owning in NL-only leagues.
Apr 15 - 12:13 AM

Lyle Overbay, making his first official appearance for the Brewers since 2005, went 0-for-3 against the Braves on Opening Day.

The Brewers would be foolish to use Overbay and Mark Reynolds in a straight platoon at first base, but that might be the way it plays out initially. Overbay hit .240/.295/.393 with Yankee Stadium helping him last year, and at 37, he's not getting any younger.
Mar 31 - 5:09 PM

Brewers selected the contract of INF Lyle Overbay from Triple-A Nashville.

The 37-year-old slashed just .222/.364/.267 with two RBI and 16 strikeouts in 45 at-bats this spring, but was able to land a spot on the Opening Day roster as a platoon option at first base. He holds no fantasy value outside of NL-only formats.
Mar 29 - 8:48 AM

Lyle Overbay didn't record an official at-bat in Sunday's loss to the Cubs, walking in all three of his plate appearances and scoring a run.

The veteran first baseman has posted a .450 on-base percentage early in Cactus League play, and could be a candidate to make the Opening Day roster as a platoon option at first base.
Mar 9 - 8:59 PM

Brewers signed 1B Lyle Overbay to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Overbay hit .289/.376/.464 with 35 home runs and 159 RBI in 317 games for Milwaukee during the 2004 and 2005 seasons, but that was his prime and he's a very different player now at age 36 (almost 37). He'll be competing for a share of the action at first base.
Jan 20 - 2:43 PM

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Phillies are among the teams talking to Lyle Overbay about a minor league deal.

Overbay, who turns 37 later this month, batted .240/.295/.393 with 14 home runs over 486 plate appearances last year with the Yankees. He's unlikely to find similar playin time in 2014, but he could be useful as a backup first baseman and left-handed bench bat.
Jan 16 - 5:13 PM

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that Lyle Overbay "remains on the Astros’ short list of low-cost first basemen."

Cafardo adds that Houston "would love to have a veteran who could push Brett Wallace." Currently, Wallace is in line to compete with Marc Krauss, Jesus Guzman, Japhet Amador and Jonathan Singleton for the first base gig. Overbay batted just .240/.295/.393 last season for the Yankees but did slug 14 homers. Whoever winds up as the Astros' Opening Day first baseman will just be keeping the seat warm until Singleton is ready.
Jan 12 - 10:48 AM

Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports that there has been "very little activity" with Lyle Overbay this winter.

Overbay socked a surprising 14 homers for the Yankees last season but batted just .240/.295/.393 overall. Cafardo thinks the veteran first baseman will "likely wind up as someone’s backup or a low-cost option for a team such as the Orioles or Indians."

Lyle Overbay went 0-for-4 on Thursday and is hitting .179 in 39 at-bats during September.

Overbay's OPS tumbled under .700 to .697 tonight. Against all expectations, he's appeared in 135 games for the Yankees this season. However, he's likely to have a hard time finding work again this winter.

Lyle Overbay had a two-run single and his first stolen base since 2011 against the Red Sox on Thursday.

The steal was on the back half of a double-steal, just like his last one two years ago. He did have a more traditional steal in 2011, too, though. He's swiped a total of 16 bases in his 13 big-league seasons.

Lyle Overbay (flu) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts Sunday in his return to the Yankees' lineup.

Overbay was out for several days with flu-like symptoms. He's batting .251/.301/.417 this year for New York.
