Major League Baseball has suspended Eric Hinske five games for his role in Tuesday's brawl with the Dodgers.
Hinske was one of the aggressors during the scrum, so he receives the stiffest penalty outside of Ian Kennedy. He figures to appeal the suspension. Jun 14 - 1:23 PM

Eric Hinske is batting .188 with a .548 OPS over 34 plate-appearances.

The Diamondbacks handed Hinske a one-year, $1.35 million contract in December after he batted just .197/.272/.311 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 91 games last season for the Braves. The former Rookie of the Year, now 35, is reaching the end of a respectable 12-year career.

Diamondbacks signed UTIL Eric Hinske to a one-year, $1.35 million contract.

The deal was agreed to on Tuesday afternoon. Hinske batted just .197/.272/.311 with two home runs and 13 RBI in 91 games this past season for the Braves, but he's usually much better and should be a fine bench piece.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Diamondbacks have signed Eric Hinske to a one-year contract.

Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that he'll get a little north of $1 million, pending a physical. Hinske, 35, batted just .197 with two homers and a .583 OPS in 91 games this past season with the Braves, but he has a long history as a useful bench player.

Eric Hinske was ejected from Friday's game against the Cardinals after arguing a called third strike.

Hinske, who was pinch-hitting in the seventh, tried to hold up on a two-strike pitch by right-hander Mitchell Boggs, but home plate umpire Mike Muchlinski ruled that he went around. Hinske objected to the call and Muchlinski naturally didn't take kindly to such actions.

Eric Hinske went 4-for-6 and hit a go-ahead homer in the top of the 11th as the Braves beat the Rockies 9-8 on Friday.

The Rockies scored once after Hinske's two-run homer, but Craig Kimbrel was able to finish up from there. Hinske is off to an awfully nice 14-for-34 start at the plate. However, it's unlikely to lead to an expanded role with Chipper Jones healthy and Jason Heyward producing.

Filling in for the injured Jason Heyward in right field, Eric Hinske went 4-for-4 with an RBI in Monday's loss to the Pirates.

Hinske doubled his hit total for the year with tonight's effort. Heyward is expected to sit out at least one more game, and Hinske has likely earned another start.

Braves exercised OF Eric Hinkse's $1.5 million option for 2012.

Hinske batted just .233 with a .311 on-base percentage in 264 plate appearances this season, but he provides the Braves with a power bat off the bench and should remain a valuable piece of the roster moving forward. He's finished with 10 or more homers in eight of his 10 major league seasons.

Eric Hinske is not in the Braves' lineup for Monday's game against the Astros.

Hinske is essentially a regular while the Braves wait for Jason Heyward and Martin Prado to return from their respective injuries, but he'll take a seat Monday night against left-hander Wandy Rodriguez. Matt Young will make the start in left while Jordan Schafer plays center and Joe Mather flanks him in right.

Eric Hinske slugged a ninth-inning go-ahead solo homer in Friday's 6-3 win over the Mets.

Hinske just barely cleared the right field wall for his sixth home run of the season. While he wasn't in the original starting lineup Friday against the left-hander Jon Niese, Hinske has received regular playing time since Jason Heyward went on the disabled list. He remains a fine short-term option in NL-only and five outfielder mixed formats.

Eric Hinske went 3-for-4 with his 12th RBI in Atlanta's win over the Astros on Monday.

The three-hit game was just his second of the season, though the multi-hit effort was his third of May, bringing his average to an impressive .356 through 59 at-bats. Hinske is a solid bench option for NL-only league players, but nothing more.
Mon, May 16, 2011 10:30:00 PM

Eric Hinske expects to be in the Braves lineup on Saturday after sitting out on Friday with left calf stiffness.

His injury appears to be even more minor than initially expected. It should be a non-issue going forward for the 33-year-old utilityman.

Eric Hinske is day-to-day with a left calf strain.

The 33-year-old utilityman should be fine by early next week. Hinske re-upped on a one-year, $1.35 million contract with the Braves this offseason and should see playing time at various positions in 2011.

Braves re-signed OF Eric Hinske to a one-year, $1.35 million contract with a $1.5 million club option for 2012.

Hinske also considered a comparable offer from the Brewers, but decided to stay with the comfort level that he has found in Atlanta. The 33-year-old hit .256/.338/.456 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI over 281 at-bats in 2010. He can play a range of positions in the infield and outfield.

According to David O'Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the Braves have re-signed Eric Hinske to a one-year contract with an option for 2012.

Hinske considered an offer from the Brewers, but ultimately decided to return to Atlanta. The 33-year-old batted .256/.338/.456 with 11 home runs and 51 RBI in 281 at-bats with the Braves this past season and will continue to be a valuable and versatile bat off the bench.
