Dodgers reassigned RHP Kurt Ainsworth and RHP Justin Orenduff to minor league camp; optioned RHP Jose Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Ainsworth, who is trying to come back from rotator cuff and labrum tears, didn't pitch in an 'A' game this spring. He'll have a lot of work to do in Triple-A before the Dodgers will consider giving him an opportunity.

Dodgers signed RHP Kurt Ainsworth to a minor league contract.

Ainsworth, who was non-tendered by the Orioles last month, will try to come back from rotator-cuff and labrum tears that kept him out for all of 2005. It's not very likely that he'll contribute, but he deserves some good fortune after three years of arm troubles.

Orioles non-tendered RHP Kurt Ainsworth.

Ainsworth missed the season after surgery to repair a partially torn labrum and rotator cuff. He's missed most of the last three years, so where he goes from here is anyone's guess.

Orioles transferred RHP Kurt Ainsworth from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.

Kurt Ainsworth is leaning towards surgery to repair his injured shoulder.

Ainsworth, who talked about possibly retiring earlier this month, now says he is determined to make a comeback. ''I'm going to give it everything I have to make it back,'' Ainsworth said. ''The other day, I probably said it the wrong way. When I said retired, I mean, if I tried to make it back and I couldn't make it back after my surgery and after I gave it my all, I'd pretty much be forced into finding something else to do.''

An MRI on Kurt Ainsworth's shoulder found tears in his labrum and rotator cuff. He'll rest for at least 10 days before deciding on surgery.

There's also a divot in the shoulder socket. He may try to rehab and come back a couple of months into the season, but since he's not going to have his old velocity, he's not going to be able to help the Orioles. Odds are he'll end up undergoing surgery, which would bring his season to a quick end.

If his latest injury is significant, Kurt Ainsworth may consider retirement.

Ainsworth is scheduled to have his right shoulder examined tomorrow. ''I'm going to go back and reassess everything, because this sure hasn't been a fun past couple of years,'' Ainsworth said. ''It's been pretty miserable, to tell you the truth, especially performing at a level you know that you're better than. It's not that much fun.''

Kurt Ainsworth allowed five runs in two innings yesterday.

He's all but out of the running for a spot in the rotation. He should go into the season as a long man.

Kurt Ainsworth struck out two in a perfect inning of relief versus the Dodgers today.

That's nice and all, but it appears as though the serious candidates for spots in Baltimore's rotation are pitching three innings at a time at the moment. Ainsworth might be auditioning for a job in middle relief.

Kurt Ainsworth, who had surgery in June to remove inflamed tissue from his right elbow, is throwing off a flat surface and will move to a mound this week.

"I feel 100 percent right now," he said. After such a rough 2004, Ainsworth is a long shot to win a spot in the Baltimore rotation this season. Still, he's worth watching.

Kurt Ainsworth will be examined today in Baltimore after complaining of arm soreness.

Ainsworth, coming back from elbow surgery, has made two starts at short-season Single-A Aberdeen during his rehab. It's uncertain whether this is normal soreness or a setback.

Kurt Ainsworth allowed one earned run in 3 2/3 innings for short season Single-A Aberdeen in his second rehabilitation start last night.

Ainsworth, who is recovering from right elbow surgery, gave up two hits and two walks, striking out four, with 60 pitches. Ainsworth will continue his rehab and barring a setback, could re-join the Orioles in September.
