Inge played five innings in right field with the Tigers back in 2005, but this will be his first start. The 35-year-old has been filling in for Neil Walker (hand) at second base, but Jordy Mercer will get the start there Friday. May 3 - 5:33 PM

Brandon Inge went 2-for-4 with a go-ahead single in the top of the eighth as the Pirates beat the Brewers 6-4 on Wednesday.

The single was a soft liner that eluded second baseman Rickie Weeks. Weeks actually kicked the ball all of the way into foul territory, allowing Inge to reach three base on the play. He then came around to score an insurance run on a rare Pedro Alvarez single. With Neil Walker hurting, Inge has started seven games since coming off the DL on April 23. He doesn't figure to have any long-term value in NL-only leagues, but he's been useful so far with his .321 average in 28 at-bats.
May 1 - 4:46 PM

Pirates activated INF Brandon Inge from the 15-day disabled list.

Inge is starting at third base in his Pirates' debut Tuesday. The 35-year-old was forced to start the season on the disabled list due to an incomplete fracture in his right scapula. He should serve as a utility infielder now that he's back to full health.
Apr 23 - 3:48 PM

Pirates manager Clint Hurdle said Monday that Brandon Inge (shoulder) could remain on his rehab assignment until it expires on April 24.

Position players can remain on a rehab assignment for 20 days and the Pirates are prepared to keep him there for the duration. The 35-year-old is hitting .125 (4-for-32) with two homers and a double over his first 10 games. He was forced to start the season on the disabled list due to an incomplete fracture in his right scapula.
Apr 15 - 4:31 PM

Brandon Inge has been diagnosed with an incomplete fracture in his right scapula (shoulder blade).

The injury does not restrict Inge when he hits or throws, so he should be able to begin a minor league rehab assignment at some point soon. The veteran infielder is likely to join the Pirates' bench by the end of April.
Apr 1 - 10:48 AM

Pirates placed INF Brandon Inge on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 26, with a right shoulder injury.

It's the same shoulder that required surgery last September. Inge batted just .162 and had 11 strikeouts in 13 games this spring. He should function as a backup infielder once he's healthy.
Mar 31 - 5:49 PM

Pirates purchased the contract of INF Brandon Inge from Triple-A Indianapolis.

Inge will serve as a backup infielder this season for the Bucs. He had 12 homers and 54 RBI in 83 games last year.
Mar 27 - 4:33 PM

The Pirates have committed to keeping Brandon Inge on the roster.

While Inge has made the team, he may have to begin the season on the disabled list due to lingering soreness in his right shoulder related to when he was hit by a pitch on March 14. The 35-year-old will function as a backup infielder once he's healthy.
Mar 26 - 9:35 AM

Brandon Inge was scratched from the lineup Friday due to lingering soreness in his right shoulder blade.

Inge originally suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch on March 14. X-rays were negative, but it's not known how long he might be out. Inge is batting just .156/.206/.156 this spring as he tries to win a bench spot.
Mar 22 - 12:52 PM

Brandon Inge went 0-for-2 on Thursday and is 3-for-22 with no extra-base hits as he attempts to win a spot on Pittsburgh's bench.

Inge is coming back from right shoulder surgery, and it appears that he might not be 100 percent yet. It doesn't bode well for his chances of sticking. He can opt for free agency at the end of the month if he doesn't make the Pirates.
Mar 14 - 4:11 PM

Brandon Inge will test out his surgically-repaired right shoulder in a split-squad game on Sunday.

The veteran infielder is vying for a bench role with the Pirates this season, and needs to get into action quickly if he's to have any hope at cracking the Opening Day roster. Despite his inability to make consistent contact, his power and defensive versatility could play well off the bench.
Mar 8 - 6:43 PM

Brandon Inge has a late-March opt-out clause in his new minor league contract with the Pirates.

In other words, he can become a free agent if it appears unlikely that he's going to have a spot on the Pirates' Opening Day roster. Inge hit just .218/.275/.383 last year but slugged 12 home runs in 83 games. Pittsburgh has been missing that kind of pop on the bench.
Feb 18 - 10:45 AM

Pirates signed INF Brandon Inge to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Inge batted just .218/.275/.383 between Detroit and Oakland in 2012 and would likely be used in a utility role if he cracks Pittsburgh's Opening Day roster. He is recovering from arthroscopic surgery on his throwing shoulder but should be ready to roll for Opening Day.
