Giants signed RHP Brian Lawrence to a minor league contract.

He'll report to minor league camp. Lawrence, 34, hasn't pitched in the major leagues since 2007 as a member of the Mets. He posted a 4.42 ERA over 142 2/3 innings with Triple-A New Orleans (Marlins) last season. Look for him to serve as organizational depth at Triple-A Fresno.

Royals reassigned RHP Brian Lawrence to minor league camp; optioned LHP Tyler Lumsden to Triple-A Omaha; optioned RHP Carlos Rosa to Double-A Northwest Arkansas.

Lawrence had a 6.43 ERA in seven innings this spring. He'll likely join Lumsden, Mike Maroth and perhaps Luke Hochevar in Omaha's rotation to begin the year.

Royals signed RHP Brian Lawrence to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

It's very hard to imagine Lawrence's 81-mph fastball leading to any success in the American League. The former Padre missed 2007 following shoulder surgery and gave up 22 runs in 29 innings for the Mets last season.

Mets declined RHP Brian Lawrence's $4 million option for 2008.

Lawrence wasn't even on the 40-man roster after being designated for assignment in September. He gave up 22 runs in 29 innings last season. It's possible that he'll be better another year removed from shoulder surgery, but he's a fifth starter at best.

Mets designated RHP Brian Lawrence for assignment.

The Mets were obviously counting on more from Lawrence than the 3 1/3 innings he threw against the Nationals last night. He had a 6.83 ERA in six starts for the Mets this season.

Brian Lawrence will start Monday's game against the Nationals in place of Orlando Hernandez, who still has a sore foot.

"He [Hernandez] says it doesn't bother him to run, so that's good," manager Willie Randolph said. "Obviously, it must have something to do with pushing off - or he has an unorthodox delivery, maybe it has something to do with that - but he says he feels it when he pitches." Lawrence went 1-2 with a 6.31 ERA in five starts with the Mets last month.

Mets recalled RHP Brian Lawrence from Triple-A New Orleans.

Lawrence, who was 1-2 with a 6.31 ERA for the Mets last month, is expected to fill in for Orlando Hernandez on Monday.

Mets optioned RHP Brian Lawrence to Triple-A New Orleans.

Lawrence was 1-2 with a 6.31 ERA while acting as the Mets' fifth starter. Either Mike Pelfrey or Philip Humber could be recalled to start Saturday. Pedro Martinez likely will rejoin the rotation next week.

Brian Lawrence was tagged for five runs in 4 2/3 innings by the Phillies in a loss Monday.

Lawrence fell to 1-2 with a 6.31 ERA. The Mets are expected to drop him from the roster Tuesday to make room for Endy Chavez.

Due to Monday's day off Brian Lawrence, who was scheduled to start Wednesday's game against Atlanta, will now start Friday against the Marlins.

The Mets will go with Oliver Perez in Tuesday's series opener, followed by Orlando Hernandez on Wednesday and John Maine on Thursday.

Pitching for the first time since 2005, Brian Lawrence picked up the victory Thursday by holding the Brewers to three runs over five innings.

Lawrence was far from great, allowing eight hits, but threw strikes and kept the ball in the ballpark save for Corey Hart's fifth-inning solo blast. With the slowest fastball this side of Tim Wakefield, Lawrence is a poor long-term bet, but he could stick in the rotation for a while longer.

Mets purchased the contract of RHP Brian Lawrence from Triple-A New Orleans.

Lawrence will start Thursday against the Brewers after the originally scheduled starter, Jorge Sosa, was used in relief Tuesday. Lawrence will be making his first big league appearance since 2005 and is a poor bet for even marginal fantasy success.

The Mets will call up Brian Lawrence to start Thursday against the Brewers.

Jorge Sosa was used in relief last night and is expected to remain in the pen for a little while. Lawrence, who had the worst velocity of any right-handed starter in the majors before hurting his shoulder, struggles to break 80 mph now. He's a weak bet to help the Mets.

Brian Lawrence gave up one run in seven innings Wednesday in his fifth start for Triple-A New Orleans.

Lawrence is 3-2 with a 4.06 ERA, 31 H and 22/5 K/BB in 31 IP. With Chan Ho Park gone, he's next in line should the Mets need a veteran spot starter.
