Red Sox signed RHP Chad Paronto to a minor league contract.
Paronto had a cup of coffee with Houston in 2009 and had his major league value come with Atlanta from 2005-2006. The right-hander's ERA was 1.39 over 44 games for Triple-A Round Rock, and will be fine depth for a Boston club that figures to have one middle relief spot up for grabs. The club also inked RHP Scott Patterson, RHP Kelvin Pichardo, 2B Ray Chang and 3B Christian Colonel Wed, Jan 20, 2010 08:13:00 PM

Chad Paronto (hamstring) is hoping to return before the end of the season.

Paronto suffered a strained left hamstring Thursday night after throwing 1 1/3 scoreless inning of relief against the Phillies. Interim manager Dave Clark isn't too optimistic about his return. "It doesn't look good," said the skipper. "I know the hamstring pull was pretty severe."

Astros designated RHP Chad Paronto for assignment.

Paronto was called up from Triple-A Round Rock last week after posting a 1.67 ERA and a 27/9 K/BB ratio in the minors. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in two appearances with Houston, so the move seems fair.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Chad Paronto from Triple-A Round Rock.

Paronto had a nice spring training, but suffered a right shoulder injury near the end of March and was left off the Opening Day roster. He eventually got healthy working at the Triple-A level and was sporting a 1.67 ERA and 27/9 K/BB ratio at the time of his call-up on Friday evening.

Astros manager Cecil Cooper said Saturday that Chad Paronto's chances of making the squad have been damaged because of right shoulder problems.

Paronto was considered a long shot anyway. He and Brandon Backe played catch from about 65-70 feet Saturday and Paronto complained of pain. He had a 2.70 ERA in 10 innings this spring before he was sidelined.

Astros purchased the contract of RHP Chad Paronto from Triple-A Round Rock.

Astros signed RHP Chad Paronto, who had been with the Braves, to a one-year contract.

Another mediocrity for Houston's pitching staff. Paranto went unclaimed on waivers in October before becoming a free agent and only figured to receive minor league offers this winter, but the Astros have no shortage of 40-man roster spots to use in order to tempt some of the borderline guys. While Paronto, 32, had a 3.57 ERA in 40 1/3 innings for Atlanta last season, that came with a 1.64 WHIP and just 14 strikeouts. If the Astros pick up enough of these guys, odds are that one or two will turn in good seasons and be useful in middle relief.

Braves sent RHP Chad Paronto and catcher Corky Miller outright to Triple-A Richmond.

Paronto cleared waivers after being designated for assignment. He's now a free agent, and he'll be offered minor league deals by several teams.

Braves designated RHP Chad Paronto for assignment.

Paronto was a fixture in the Atlanta pen for a year and a half, but the team sent him down to make room for Ron Mahay on July 31 and never gave him a recall. He had a 3.57 ERA in 40 1/3 innings when demoted, though that came with a 1.64 WHIP. He should be quite popular if he clears waivers and becomes a minor league free agent. That he's arbitration eligible will likely prevent him from being claimed.

Braves optioned RHP Chad Paronto to Triple-A Richmond.

Paronto goes to make room on the roster for Mark Teixeira, who could be available as a pinch-hitter after arriving during tonight's game.

Chad Paronto gave up two runs in an inning Wednesday and now has a 7.64 ERA this season.

Rather than send down Blaine Boyer when they go back to 12 pitches, the Braves should release Paronto, who has allowed 25 hits and walked 10 in 17 2/3 innings. Not only is Boyer a better bet, but the club also has Joey Devine worthy of another opportunity.
