A three-person arbitration panel denied a grievance Shawn Chacon filed against the Astros last September.
Chacon's contract was terminated after he attacked and assaulted Astros general manager Ed Wade on June 25, 2008. "We're pleased with the ruling," said Wade. "It was an unfortunate incident, and we're glad to put it behind us." Chacon, 32, is currently out of professional baseball. Mon, Aug 16, 2010 10:14:00 PM

Athletics signed RHP Shawn Chacon to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Sacramento.

The Astros released him about one year ago, but Chacon's 4.29 ERA and 29/16 K/BB ratio in 42 innings with the independent Newark Bears must have caught the eye of Oakland general manager Billy Beane. The 31-year-old is a longshot to contribute this season, or at any time in the near future.

Astros requested waivers on RHP Shawn Chacon for the purpose of giving him his unconditional release.

There's little doubt that Chacon will clear waivers. The Astros are doing him a favor by releasing him when they certainly could have justified keeping him on suspension for an indefinite period.

Shawn Chacon, who was suspended indefinitely by the Astros, said he threw Ed Wade to the floor Wednesday after being asked to attend a meeting with the general manager and manager Cecil Cooper.

Chacon said he was told sternly by Wade that he was going to have the meeting, something he didn't want to do. "He started yelling and cussing," Chacon said of Wade. "I’m sitting there and I said to him very calmly, ‘Ed, you need to stop yelling (at) me. Then I stood up and said 'you better stop yelling at me.' I stood up. He continued and was basically yelling and stuff and was like, ‘You need to (expletive) look in the mirror.’ So at that point I lost my cool and I grabbed him by the neck and threw him to the ground. I jumped on top of him because at that point I wanted to beat his (butt). Words were exchanged." Chacon was pulled away from Wade by a teammate before he could do any damage, which may end up saving his career. It's still hard to imagine another team being eager to give him a chance this year.

The Astros said they have suspended right-hander Shawn Chacon indefinitely.

Chacon issued a trade demand on Wednesday after being moved to the pen, and the Astros have seemingly responded by telling him if he doesn't want to pitch for them, then he's not going to pitch anywhere. Chacon was 2-3 with a 5.04 ERA before being replace in the rotation.

The Astros said Sunday that they're demoting Shawn Chacon from the rotation and calling up Runelvys Hernandez to replace him.

That's unlikely to be an upgrade, but it's not like Chacon could be counted on to bounce back. He had a 9.35 ERA in his last four starts, and he was 2-3 with a 5.04 ERA. Unfortunately for the Astros, Roy Oswalt and Brandon Backe have ERAs in the same range.

Shawn Chacon was shelled by the Orioles on Thursday night, as he surrendered six runs on eight hits over five innings in a losing effort.

Chacon walked four and didn't strike anyone out. Over his last four starts, he is 0-3 with a 9.35 ERA and 6-to-13 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Probably best to stay away from him.

Shawn Chacon was removed after allowing seven runs in five innings Saturday versus the Cardinals.

All seven runs came in the second inning. Chacon survived that inning and then did a nice job of saving the Astros' pen, something that didn't happen in a one-inning outing last week against the Brewers. He's 2-2 with a 4.96 ERA.

Shawn Chacon lasted just one inning against the Brewers on Sunday, yielding four runs and taking a loss in a 10-1 game.

Chacon had been pitching surprisingly well for the Astros entering today, but he wasn't allowed to go back out in the second inning after yielding four runs on two hits, two walks, and two hit batters. He wasn't a good bet to continue pitching so well anyway, so he's not worth using when he gets the Cardinals later in the week.

Shawn Chacon held the Cardinals to two-runs over seven innings on Tuesday night, improving to 2-0 in Houston's 8-2 victory.

The Astros scored four times in the first, once in the third and three times in he fourth. Chacon thanked them for the support with seven strong innings, suppressing the Cards offense outside of a pair of solo homers. He struck out seven and did not issue a walk.

Shawn Chacon picked up the win after limiting the Cubs to three runs in seven innings on Wednesday night.

Chacon gave up three runs in a shaky first, but then didn't allow another hit until the seventh inning en route to his first decision of the year. He struck out five and walked one in what was easily his best outing of the season. He'll pitch in St. Louis next week.

Shawn Chacon allowed eight runs -- five earned -- over 3 1/3 innings Friday.

Chacon was the victim of terrible defense, but still didn't pitch well. He allowed three homers, struck out none, and walked four. The bullpen didn't do much better. Only reliever Dave Borowski was able to get through an inning without allowing a run. Chacon takes a 4.14 ERA into his next start against the Cubs.

Shawn Chacon held the Rockies to three runs in six innings on Sunday.

Chacon struck out three, walked one, and yielded seven hits while not factoring in the decision. Four of the seven hits went for extra bases, with Garrett Atkins adding a homer and three other Rockies doubling. Chacon has a shiny 2.77 ERA after four starts, but his 14/11 K/BB ratio and poor history suggest you stay far, far away.

Shawn Chacon pitched eight innings of scoreless baseball on Tuesday night, but was denied the win when Jose Valverde blew the save.

Chacon struck out five and walked two, allowing just four hits along the way. He deserved the win in what could be his best start of the season, but wasn't sent back out for the ninth after throwing 109 pitches through eight innings. He'll face Colorado in his next start.

Shawn Chacon allowed three runs on four hits and four walks over six innings while earning a no-decision against the Cardinals Tuesday night.

Chacon has now issued eight walks in two starts, but still holds a 3.75 ERA. Don’t expect that to keep up as long as he keeps putting this many runners on base.
