Mariners released OF Endy Chavez.
Chavez was released at this request. While the 37-year-old struggled with the bat in spring training (.190/.292/.238), he is a versatile defender capable of handling all three outfield spots. He also provides a speed element for teams looking for a bench piece. Mar 31 - 1:51 PM

Mariners re-signed OF Endy Chavez to a minor league contract.

The veteran outfielder will compete for a reserve role with the M's. He has the ability to handle all three outfield positions defensively and also adds an element of speed off the bench.

Per ESPN's Jerry Crasnick, the Mariners are interested in bringing back Endy Chavez.

Crasnick adds that Chavez would likely have to settle for a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training. He would have to compete for a spot in the Mariners' crowded outfield. The soon-to-be 37-year-old batted .276/.317/.371 in 258 plate appearances for the Mariners last season. Chavez would provide versatility, as he can play all three outfield positions.

According to CBS Sports' Jon Heyman, re-signing with the Mariners is an option for Endy Chavez.

Chavez batted .276/.317/.371 in 258 plate appearances last season for the M's, making 35 starts in right field, nine starts in left field, and five starts in center. He turns 37 years old on February 7. This would be a depth signing for Seattle.

Endy Chavez was retired as a pinch-hitter on Tuesday versus the Indians.

Chavez had been unavailable the last few days after jamming his finger. The veteran outfielder is hitting just .260/.284/.344 for the Mariners this season.

Endy Chavez has been scratched from the Mariners starting lineup on Saturday due to a jammed finger.

The injury doesn't sound as though it will require a trip to the disabled list, so consider him day-to-day. Corey Hart will get the start in right field in his place.

Endy Chavez had a double and two walks, scoring all three times he reached base, in Tuesday's monster victory over the Astros.

Chavez scored runs in the first, sixth and seventh innings as the Mariners plated 13 runs on the evening. Since June 23, the outfielder is batting .370 (10-for-27) with seven runs scored and five RBI. The M's are playing good baseball and playing time is hard to come by in a crowded Mariners outfield, but Chavez will likely command more at-bats going forward if he continues to produce at a similar clip.

Making his third career start at DH, Endy Chavez went 2-for-4 and hit his first homer of the year Friday against the Indians.

Chavez went 1,073 career games without ever starting at DH before doing so three times this month for the Mariners. Obviously, they'd prefer to have Corey Hart or Logan Morrison in that spot, but with Hart and Justin Smoak on the DL, Morrison has been the primary first baseman of late. Chavez has gone 8-for-16 with five RBI in his last four starts for the Mariners. Obviously, that's a big boost for the team in the short term. For the long haul, it wouldn't be so great if he continued to receive playing time.

Endy Chavez went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Rangers.

Despite the Mariners being thin on outfielders, Sunday's start was Chavez' first in three days as he's struggled at the plate recently. He made his case for another start, as he doubled to lead off the first inning before singling and scoring in the fifth. The 36-year-old is not an option for fantasy purposes.

Endy Chavez went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored in a win over the Rays on Sunday.

Chavez broke a scoreless tie in the ninth inning with an RBI single, and he later scored on James Jones' triple. Chavez had two hits in a start Saturday as well, possibly earning a few more starts in the coming week with his good hitting. He's still nothing more than a part-time player, and can be ignored for fantasy purposes.
