Hitting in the leadoff spot, Endy Chavez came through in a spot start Thursday against the Tigers, going 2-for-3 with an RBI single.

The Mariners got to Justin Verlander with a pair of runs in the seventh on Chavez's single and Kyle Seager's RBI double. That was all they needed with Hisashi Iwakuma putting up another brilliant performance. Chavez has five hits in 16 at-bats since being called up by the M's a week ago.

He'll be given an invitation to spring training. Chavez batted just .203/.236/.278 over 64 games this past season for the Orioles but should have a decent shot at a bench job in Kansas City.

Endy Chavez went 4-for-4 with two RBI and a walk against the A's on Sunday.

It's taken a bunch of injuries to put Chavez back into Baltimore's plans -- anyone of Nick Markakis, Nolan Reimold, Wilson Betemit or Jim Thome probably would have started over him today if healthy -- but he made the most of his opportunity and he's now 6-for-11 with two walks since his recall on Sept. 11. He'll likely continue to see quite a bit of action against righties.

Chavez, 34, is batting just .190 with two homers, eight RBI and a .503 OPS in 47 games with the Orioles this season. He'll provide some depth in the outfielder with Nick Markakis (thumb) on the mend.

Chavez cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last weekend. He is expected to report to the Tides on Tuesday and could rejoin the big club when rosters expand in September.

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun writes that Endy Chavez is expected to clear waivers by Friday.

Chavez was designated for assignment by the Orioles over the weekend. If he clears waivers, Connolly would be surprised if he didn't accept a minor league assignment with Triple-A Norfolk.

Chavez was designated for assignment over the weekend. It's possible he could wind up accepting an assignment to Triple-A Norfolk, as manager Buck Showalter said he would be called back up in September.

Xavier Avery was sent down to Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding roster move. Chavez has been sidelined since mid-June with a strained right hamstring and is hitting just .162 with one homer and a .402 OPS in 105 at-bats this season.

The Orioles plan to activate Endy Chavez (hamstring) from the 15-day disabled list prior to Friday's game.

Chavez was hitless in four at-bats with Low-A Delmarva on Tuesday after going 0-for-4 with the O's Gulf Coast League affiliate on Monday. He is slated to play in two more games with Delmarva before rejoining the Orioles. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since mid-June with a strained right hamstring.

Endy Chavez (hamstring) went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Monday in his first rehab game with the Gulf Coast League Orioles.

Chavez batted leadoff and played left field. The veteran outfielder has been sidelined since mid-June with a hamstring injury. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the O's later this month.
