Brian Roberts (back) returned to the Yankees' starting lineup Thursday against the Rays.

Roberts has been nursing a lower back strain in recent days, but he's feeling good enough to give it a go. He's hitting eighth against David Price.

Brian Roberts (back) thinks he could be available to play on Wednesday.

Roberts is nursing a lower back strain but has been given medication and is starting to feel better. Consider him day-to-day for now, but, given his history, a trip to the DL can't be ruled out. Yangervis Solarte is starting at second base in the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

Brian Roberts (back) underwent an MRI on Sunday which came back negative.

The veteran infielder had been complaining of soreness in his lower back. He'll be re-evaluated in a couple of days before a decision is made as to whether or not he'll have to hit the disabled list.
Apr 13 - 10:26 PM

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed that Brian Roberts was out of the Yankees lineup on Sunday due to a back injury.

With an extremely long and lengthy injury history, including several recurring back problems, this is certainly something fantasy owners should take note of. No word yet on the severity of the injury or how much time, if any, he may miss.
Apr 13 - 9:41 PM

Brian Roberts went 3-for-4 against the Astros on Wednesday.

All three hits were singles. Roberts, 36, is taking over at second base in the Bronx for the departed Robinson Cano. The veteran has had trouble staying on the field since 2010. If he can manage to stay healthy, he may have some limited value in the batting average and stolen base categories.
Apr 2 - 11:41 PM

Brian Roberts went 0-for-3 against the Tigers on Wednesday, leaving him 2-for-17 this spring.

It sounds like Roberts need only get through the spring healthy in order to ensure himself a starting job, but it's not like he was particularly good offensively (.249/.312/.392 in 265 AB) or defensively for the Orioles last season. The Yankees will let him prove himself in April, but there's no reason to give him too much rope if he doesn't hit.
Mar 12 - 5:26 PM

Yankees signed 2B Brian Roberts to a one-year, $2 million contract.

The deal was agreed to almost a month ago, but the Yankees had to wait for the conclusion of the Alex Rodriguez suspension appeal to officially add Roberts to their 40-man roster. He is taking A-Rod's roster spot and will be in line for a good amount of playing time at second base in 2014. Kelly Johnson is expected to start at third.

The Yankees will sign Brian Roberts to a one-year deal worth $2 million plus incentives, reports Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Morosi's colleague, Ken Rosenthal, first reported news of the Roberts-Yankees marriage on Monday evening. Roberts averaged 152 games played per year and posted a robust .290/.365/.438 slash line between 2004-09, but his career has been wrecked by injuries since. He's averaged just 48 games played per season over the past four years, and posted a sickly .246/.310/.359 line when he's been on the field over that period. New York seems likely to host a second base competition between the 36-year-old Roberts and Kelly Johnson, but counting on Roberts to stay healthy for more than a third of the season is a losing proposition. At least the price was right.

FOX Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Yankees are likely to sign Brian Roberts.

There's no word on the terms, but it'll likely be a one-year deal with a low base salary. Roberts would give the Yanks another option at second base along with Kelly Johnson, as the two could form a platoon following the departure of Robinson Cano. The 36-year-old is obviously a poor bet to stay healthy after averaging just 48 games played over the last four seasons.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Yankees have little interest in free agent second baseman Brian Roberts.

It had been reported earlier in the week that the Bombers talked to Roberts' agent, but it appears that they were merely checking in. The oft-injured 36 year-old has averaged only 48 games played over the last four seasons.

Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports that the Yankees have talked to Brian Roberts' agent.

It's unclear whether they just checked in or have legitimate interest in a deal. Roberts played in 77 games this past season -- his most since 2009 -- but he batted just .249/.312/.392 with eight home runs and 39 RBI over 277 plate appearances. The Orioles haven't ruled out bringing him back, but appear content with internal options.

Eduardo A. Encina of the Baltimore Sun writes that the Orioles will "explore" re-signing Brian Roberts to a one-year contract.

Roberts never played more than 77 games in any season during his four-year, $40 million deal that will expire after the World Series. He managed to stay healthy over the final three months this season, though, and finished strong with five September homers. If he does return, he'd just be keeping second base warm for Jonathan Schoop. Encina also notes that the O's will consider bringing back Nate McLouth on a one-year pact.

Brian Roberts singled and ripped a solo homer in Tuesday's loss to the Blue Jays.

Roberts tied things up in the third with his blast and Nate McLouth put them ahead with the second of back-to-back shots. That's all the runs the O's could muster, though, and they eventually lost in extra innings. Roberts has batted .242/.307/.379 with seven dingers this season.

Brian Roberts is not in the Orioles starting lineup on Saturday.

It's merely a day of rest for the veteran second baseman after Friday's marathon affair against the Rays. Alexi Casilla will get the start at second base and hit ninth for the O's against Alex Cobb.
