Free agent Victor Zambrano allowed two hits over six scoreless innings Sunday for Magallanes of the VWL.
Zambrano has allowed three hits, walked one and struck out 10 in 11 scoreless innings through two starts. If he keeps this up, there will be a great deal of interest in him as a minor league free agent this winter. Tue, Oct 21, 2008 03:53:00 AM

Yankees signed RHP Victor Zambrano to a minor league contract.

Zambrano had been working out for the Yankees for weeks. He'll be a candidate to pitch in relief for the team in September, but that's about it. He was 0-6 with a 9.45 ERA for Triple-A Colorado Springs before being let go by the Rockies.

The Yankees are expected to send a scout to watch free agent Victor Zambrano throw this week.

Clearly, the Yankees are desperate to add a starting pitcher. Zambrano was invited to spring training by the Rockies, but didn't make the team and went 0-6 with a 9.45 in Triple-A for the Rockies.

Rockies invited RHP Victor Zambrano, RHP Alberto Arias, RHP Darren Clarke, RHP Brandon Hynick, RHP Zach McClellan, RHP Greg Reynolds, RHP Casey Weathers, LHP Micah Bowie, LHP Chris George, LHP John Koronka and LHP Sean Thompson to spring training.

It was reported back in December that the Rockies were trying to sign Zambrano. He's more depth for a team that already has Franklin Morales, Josh Towers, Kip Wells and Mark Redman battling for a rotation spot. They're all on the 40-man roster, so it's hard to imagine Zambrano overtaking all of them and claiming a job coming out of spring training.

General manager Dan O'Dowd said Tuesday that the Rockies are trying to sign Victor Zambrano to a minor league contract.

"We are having discussions, but I wouldn't characterize it as close to signing yet," agent Peter Greenberg said. Zambrano would compete for a rotation spot in Colorado, but may begin the year working out of the bullpen.

The Rockies are interested in signing Victor Zambrano to a minor league contract, according to the Denver Post.

Zambrano has raised his stock with a strong performance in winter ball. Set to begin his second season since Tommy John surgery, Zambrano could get looks from several teams as a potential fifth starter.

Free agent Victor Zambrano allowed one run over five innings Saturday in his debut for Magallanes of the VWL.

Zambrano is hoping a strong winter will put him in better position to claim a rotation spot next spring. He struggled while spending most of his first year back from Tommy John surgery pitching in the minors.

Victor Zambrano is expected to be waived by the Orioles as soon as Tuesday.

Zambrano was 0-1 with a 9.49 ERA in five games after being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates on Aug. 9. He will try to find a spot in another team's rotation this spring.

Victor Zambrano was pulled after allowing eight runs in two-thirds of an inning Wednesday versus the Blue Jays.

Zambrano had given up just one run in nine innings for the Orioles. Now he ends the year with a 9.74 ERA in 28 2/3 innings. Another year removed from Tommy John surgery, he'll compete for a spot in some other team's rotation next spring.

Victor Zambrano will get a start Thursday after pitching four scoreless innings out of the pen on Saturday.

Zambrano was supposed to start yesterday, but he wasn't stretched out enough. He ended up getting 12 more outs than fill in Kurt Birkins anyway.

The Orioles have scratched Victor Zambrano from his scheduled start Saturday and will go with Kurt Birkins instead.

Zambrano, who was acquired five days ago, apparently isn't ready to pitch in a game.

Orioles purchased the contract of Victor Zambrano from the Pirates.

If your name is Victor and you've pitched in the majors within the last 10 years, there may just be an opportunity for you in Baltimore. Zambrano had a 5.56 ERA in 13 starts after joining the Pirates' Triple-A affiliate, so it still doesn't appear that he's ready to help a major league team a year and a third after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Still, he can provide innings in middle relief.

The Pirates signed RHP Victor Zambrano and assigned him to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Zambrano was released by the Blue Jays in early July after going 0-2 with a 10.97 ERA in eight appearances.

Blue Jays released RHP Victor Zambrano.

Zambrano had some early success in relief for the Jays, but they couldn't wait to throw him into the rotation and he was a bust then. Maybe another team will try him as a middle reliever and get something out of him this year. He shouldn't start games again until 2008.

Victor Zambrano (forearm) was pounded for seven runs in 3 2/3 innings Friday in his latest rehab start for Triple-A Syracuse.

Zambrano, who was never really hurt in the first place, has an 8.39 ERA in seven starts in the minors, which could mean that he'll soon follow John Thomson out of town.
