Juan Cruz hasn't reported to Phillies' camp due to a miscommunication about his report date.

He'll presumably show up to camp within the next few days. Cruz signed a minor league deal with the Phillies over the winter after posting a 2.78 ERA and 33/19 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings for the Pirates last season. He should be in the mix for a bullpen spot this spring.

He'll receive an invitation to spring training. Cruz posted a 2.78 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 33/19 K/BB ratio over 35 2/3 innings for the Pirates last season before they decided to cut him loose in August. The veteran reliever should have a decent shot at grabbing one of the final spots in the Phils' pen.

Cruz was designated for assignment earlier this week then declined a spot at Triple-A Indianapolis. The 30-year-old right-hander had a 2.78 ERA in 43 relief appearances out of the Pittsburgh 'pen and should draw some interest as a low-risk free agent pickup.

Cruz was designated for assignment Monday. "At this point, we've got some young guys who've passed him," Hurdle said. Cruz posted a 2.78 ERA in 43 appearances for the Pirates, so he should be able to catch on somewhere.

The Pirates evidently believe they can do better in their bullpen down the stretch.

Cruz missed three weeks of action while dealing with right shoulder inflammation. The owner of a 2.61 ERA and 1.61 WHIP in 37 appearances this season, he'll return to a setup role.

It's not clear how long he will be out or if he's undergone an MRI yet, but it's possible he could be looking at an extended absence. Evan Meek is replacing him on the active roster.
