According to Jon Paul Morosi of FOXSports.com, the Brewers have re-signed INF-OF Erick Almonte to a minor league contract.
The Brewers have yet to make an official announcement. Almonte, 33, made Milwaukee's Opening Day roster this season, but didn't return to the major-league level after he suffered a concussion when he was hit in the face with a thrown ball during batting practice in late-April. Brewers sent OF Erick Almonte outright to Triple-A Nashville.

He has yet to accept the assignment, however, and may end up requesting his release. Recently recovered from a concussion, the 33-year-old Almonte hit just .103 with one home run in 29 at-bats for the Brewers this season.

Erick Almonte (concussion) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville this weekend.

Almonte was originally scheduled to head to extended spring training this weekend, but the Brewers are apparently pleased enough with his progress to move along his return time-table. The setback he suffered on Monday has apparently not thrown too big of a kink in things. Almonte has been out since late April, but it now appears he could come off the disabled list within the next 7-to-10 days.

Brewers manager Ron Roenicke said that Erick Almonte (concussion) will travel to Arizona this weekend to begin working out and playing in games.

It was rather scary when Almonte was hit in the face with a thrown ball Monday for the second time, but the good news is that he hasn't experienced a recurrence of his recent concussion symptoms. There's no current timetable for his return.

Erick Almonte had to be helped back to the clubhouse Monday after suffering a setback with his concussion.

Scary. Almonte was struck in the face by a thrown ball during batting practice late last month and became the first player to be placed on MLB's new 7-day disabled list for concussions. He was cleared for physical activity two weeks ago, but Monday's setback could put him on the sidelines for a bit longer.

Erick Almonte (concussion) was cleared for physical activities Monday.

Almonte passed a test Monday which he failed last week. He was the first player placed on the new 7-day disabled list for concussions after being hit in the head with a throw during batting practice on April 26. Because Almonte is not yet ready to return, he is expected to be transferred to the 15-day DL Tuesday.

Brewers placed OF Erick Almonte on the 7-day disabled list with a concussion.

Almonte was struck in the face by a thrown ball during batting practice Tuesday and apparently has concussion-like symptoms. With the new 7-day DL this season only for concussion, he will be able to come back sooner, though it remains to be seen if he'll be ready at that time.

Erick Almonte was struck in the face by a thrown ball during batting practice Tuesday.

Almonte went to the clubhouse with the team's trainers, so we'll likely learn more about his status later tonight. The 33-year-old is batting .103 (3-for-29) with one home run and three RBI with the Brewers this season.

Erick Almonte hit his first big league homer since 2003 in Saturday's loss to the Reds.

A nice story indeed. Almonte won a spot on the Brewers' bench this spring by batting .416 (32-for-77) with three home runs and 13 RBI. He hadn't played in the major leagues since 2003, when he was a member of the Yankees.

Brewers purchased the contract of INF Erick Almonte.

There's a blast from the past. Almonte hasn't played in the majors since 2003 as a member of the Yankees, but the 33-year-old won a spot by batting .416 (32-for-77) with three homers and 13 RBI this spring. He'll likely serve as a backup at the corner infield positions.

Erick Almonte won the final bench spot on Milwaukee's roster.

"Pinch-hitting, without a doubt, is the toughest thing there is to do in baseball," manager Ron Roenicke said. "And when you find a guy who you think has the ability to do it, it's a special guy." Almonte batted .441 this spring and can handle all corner defensive positions.

Erick Almonte homered, doubled and drove in six runs in Monday's DWL play.

Almonte didn't do anything in Japan in 2005, so returned to the U.S. in 2006 and spent the season hitting .302/.391/.448 with 16 steals for the independent Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League. The former Yankee might surface with a Triple-A team at some point during 2007.

Back from Japan, infielder Erick Almonte has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League.

Almonte, 28, hit .193/.330/.318 in 88 at-bats for the Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters last season. He hit .318/.402/.507 for Triple-A Colorado Springs in 2004, so he probably won't be playing indy ball for long. There's still a chance that he could spend a few years in the majors as a utilityman.

Indians sold the contract of infielder Erick Almonte to the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan's Pacific League.

Almonte, who hit .318/.402/.507 for Triple-A Colorado Springs last season, would have been a better option as a utility infielder than a couple of dozen players who will begin next season on major league rosters. The Indians, though, want to re-sign Lou Merloni to go along with Jose Hernandez.

Erick Almonte, who signed a minor league contract with the Indians last month, is expected to join the Nippon Ham Fighters of Japan.

The Indians now have Jose Hernandez and are trying to re-sign Lou Merloni, so they don't need to keep Almonte.
