Berroa was signed to a minor league contract by the club in April. The 2003 Rookie of the Year was batting a meager .205/.247/.307 with one home run and eight RBI over 88 at-bats with Triple-A Fresno.

The deal includes an invitation to spring training but Berroa will struggle to crack the Dodgers' Opening Day roster. He hit just .143/.208/.184 in 49 at-bats this past season and will turn 32 in late January.

Mets signed infielder Angel Berroa to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Buffalo.

A huge 24 hours for the Amazins'. The former Rookie of the Year batted just .136/.174/.182 in 21 games with the Yankees this season. He was designated for assignment on June 24 and released on Tuesday. With the rash of injuries on the Mets roster, he's a good bet to see time in the bigs again soon. And that's not a good thing.

Yankees purchased the contract of infielder Angel Berroa from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Berroa was probably the Yankees' best choice at third base all along, not that it would have made much of a difference. He'll probably have some short-term value in AL-only leagues until Alex Rodriguez returns.

They may try to use him at third base until Alex Rodriguez is back in the fold. There is no word yet on what corresponding roster move the team may make.

Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre's Angel Berroa went 4-for-5 and homered twice Friday.

Berroa outhit both Cody Ransom and Ramiro Pena this spring, but the Yankees chose to demote him anyway. He's hitting .350/.396/.600 through 40 at-bats for Scranton. There's still a case for having him take over for Ransom at third base now, but with Alex Rodriguez making steady progress, the Yankees probably won't make a change.

Yankees reassigned infielder Angel Berroa to minor league camp.

As far as winning baseball games, the Yankees had very little to gain or lose when it came to making a decision on Berroa versus Ramiro Pena. Neither was going to play more than once a week, and whatever upgrade Berroa was offensively, Pena figured to make up for with his glove. Still, Berroa over Pena seemed like the right move. Pena still has a lot to gain by playing regularly in Triple-A -- he's never spent a day at the level -- and Berroa deserved a job after hitting .371/.381/.597 this spring. If Berroa had it to do all over again, he surely would have signed with another team.

Angel Berroa collected his eighth double and singled versus the Reds on Tuesday.

Speculation has the Yankees picking Ramiro Pena as their utiltyman with Cody Ransom filling in for Alex Rodriguez. If they do, Berroa has every right to be absolutely furious. He's batting .379 with 10 extra-base hits in 58 at-bats, giving him about 300 points of OPS on either Ransom or Pena. It'd be a shame if he did all that for a team apparently didn't want him in the first place.

It's the first time since last year's Tommy John surgery that Hudson has faced hitters wearing a different uniform. The D'Backs says the righty's fastball sat in the 91-93 mph range, which is obviously a good sign. "The light at the end of the tunnel is getting a little bit brighter now," Hudson said. Hudson will appear in another extended spring game next week and doesn't appear far off from a rehab assignment. He could be back as soon as late June if all goes well, though the big club doesn't currently have room for him in the rotation. May 19
