Brewers released C Mike Rivera.

He wasn't going to make the team with Jonathan Lucroy and George Kottaras around, and the Brewers preferred to go with Martin Maldonado and Paul Phillips at Triple-A. Rivera should catch on somewhere.

Brewers re-signed C Mike Rivera to a minor league contract.

He also gets an invite to spring training. The 31-year-old backstop appeared in one game with the Brewers this past season, but spent the majority of the year at the Triple-A level. He'll continue to provide organizational depth in the minors.

Mike Rivera accepted a minor league assignment with Triple-A Nashville.

Rivera was outrighted to the minors on Friday after successfully clearing waivers. The 34-year-old backstop will stick around as organizational depth.

Brewers sent C Mike Rivera outright to Triple-A Nashville.

Rivera has been up with the club over a week but received just six at-bats as the third catcher.

Brewers purchased the contract of C Mike Rivera from Triple-A Nashville.

Rivera was batting a healthy .250/.328/.500 in 59 plate appearances at Triple-A but probably won't see enough playing time in the bigs to build on that momentum.

Brewers reassigned C Mike Rivera, RHP Mark DiFelice and INF Edwin Maysonet to minor league camp.

As expected. All three were told earlier in the week that they would not make the 25-man roster.

Brewers signed C Mike Rivera to a minor league contract.

Rivera was hitless in 14 at-bats after joining the Marlins in September. The 34-year-old catcher spent parts of four seasons with the Brewers from 2006-09.

Marlins sent C Mike Rivera outright to Triple-A New Orleans.

The Marlins are already starting to clear space on their 40-man roster. Rivera, 34, was 0-for-14 with the Fish this season.

Marlins purchased the contract of C Mike Rivera from Triple-A New Orleans.

The Marlins are desperate for catcher depth with both John Baker and Ronny Paulino done for the season. Rivera figures to see a decent amount of playing time but can be ignored for fantasy purposes.

Marlins signed C Mike Rivera to a minor league contract.

He was assigned to Triple-A New Orleans. Rivera, who turns 34 next week, was released by the Yankees after spring training and has spent most of the season in the Dodgers' organization. The Marlins are hurting for options behind the plate with John Baker, Ronny Paulino and Brett Hayes all unavailable. He could join the major league roster in September.

Yankees released C Mike Rivera.

With the presence of Francisco Cervelli, Rivera was not expected to make the team. The Yankees signed Chad Moeller and Robby Hammock to minor league contracts on Saturday, so they still have some decent insurance in the minor leagues.

Yankees signed C Mike Rivera to a minor league contract.

Another big splash by the Yankees. We're kidding, of course. Rivera, 33, hit .228/.326/.342 this year with two homers and 14 RBI in 114 at-bats while serving as Jason Kendall's backup in Milwaukee. With Jose Molina hitting free agency the Yanks needed a bit more catching depth.

Brewers non-tendered catcher Mike Rivera.

The Brewers wanted to go with a whole new catching tandem next year. Rivera hit .228/.326/.342 last season, but he was only starting once a week as Jason Kendall's backup. He'd probably hit if used more frequently. However, he's no lock to land another backup gig.

After homering twice to beat the Padres Thursday, catcher Mike Rivera will draw a second start Friday.

Rivera has been the Brewers' backup catcher all year long but only garnered 63 at-bats before Thursday. His strong showing comes at a time where the Brewers' offense is trying to click, so he'll be back in there at the expense of Jason Kendall. If he has another strong game, he could start eating into Kendall's playing time.
