Diamondbacks released INF Joaquin Arias.
Arias was invited to Diamondbacks camp on a minor league contract but never had much hope of rising up the club's crowded and talented infield depth chart. The 31-year-old will look elsewhere for a better shot at a major league roster spot. Mar 31 - 12:16 PM

Diamondbacks signed INF Joaquin Arias to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 31-year-old infielder slashed a mere .207/.207/.276 in 59 plate appearances with the Giants in 2015 before he was designated for assignment in late July. He'll compete for a reserve infielder role with the D'Backs in the spring.

Giants sent INF Joaquin Arias outright to Triple-A Fresno.

Arias was designated for assignment by the Giants on July 27 and passed through waivers unclaimed. The 30-year-old is a .265/.293/.350 career hitter in the majors.

Giants designated INF Joaquin Arias for assignment.

The move clears space on the roster for the return of Nori Aoki. Arias has been with the Giants since 2012 but was hitting just .207/.207/.276 this season. He'll clear waivers given his $1.45 million salary and should remain in the organization.

Joaquin Arias got the Giants on the board with an RBI ground out in the fifth inning in a losing effort against the Cardinals on Sunday.

Arias was pinch-hitting for Jake Peavy and made sure to get the job done in his only at-bat. It was the first at-bat of the postseason for the utility infielder who has been used very sparingly.

Joaquin Arias remained scorching hot in Sunday’s loss to the Tigers, going 2-for-4 with a pair of singles.

Arias is slashing an unimpressive .242/.274/.291 on the season, but has been on a tear in recent weeks hitting .481 (13-for-27) in his last 13 games. He remains nothing more than an NL-only option.

Joaquin Arias went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles and an RBI in Friday's loss to the Royals.

It was a rare start for Arias, who played third base while Pablo Sandoval got a bit of a rest out of the DH spot. The 29-year-old is batting just .197/.224/.226 over 79 games this season, so the two-year deal the Giants gave him over the winter looks like a bad gamble right now.

Joaquin Arias picked up his first extra-base hit of the season in a losing effort against the Padres on Friday.

He finished the night 1-for-3 with that double, raising his abysmal season slash to .186/.216/.196. He's useless outside of the deepest NL-only formats.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Joaquin Arias will receive the bulk of the playing time at second base while Marco Scutaro (back) is out.

It's not clear at this point how long Scutaro will be sidelined. Arias is a career .272/.302/.367 hitter who offers nothing in the way of power or speed, so he's a zero in fantasy leagues.

Giants and INF Joaquin Arias avoided arbitration by agreeing to a two-year, $2.6 million contract.

Arias was arbitration-eligible for the second time this winter, so he'll be a free agent at the end of the deal. The 29-year-old will continue to function as a utility infielder for San Francisco.

Joaquin Arias requested $1.5 million and was offered $1.1 million from the Giants when arbitration figures were exchanged on Friday.

With the two sides so close, it's likely they settle around $1.3 million. He'll continue to function in a utility role for the Giants in 2014.

Joaquin Arias (hamstring) is likely to miss a few games after leaving Friday's game with a hamstring injury.

Arias noted that he felt pretty sore on Saturday. The 29-year-old infielder is unlikely to return to the lineup until early next week. He's slashing .271/.284/.342 with 19 RBI on the season

Joaquin Arias tweaked his hamstring in Friday's loss to the Yankees.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said the injury occurred while going for a single to start the seventh inning. He's listed as day-to-day and should return to game action before the end of the weekend.

Joaquin Arias hit his first homer Wednesday off the Red Sox's Felix Doubront in his 161st at-bat of the year.

Arias surprised some with his five homers in 319 at-bats last year, and he hasn't been able to maintain the pop. On the plus side, he is hitting a nifty .288, though it's come without any walks to speak of. He'll continue to start at third base when Pablo Sandoval can't.

Giants activated INF Joaquin Arias from the 15-day disabled list.

Arias has been sidelined since an emergency appendectomy on July 7. The 28-year-old is batting .282/.302/.327 in 60 games this season.
