Giants avoided arbitration with INF Joaquin Arias by agreeing to a one-year, $925,000 contract.
It's the midpoint between the figures that were exchanged earlier this month. Arias, 28, was arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after hitting .270/.304/.389 with a .693 OPS in 344 plate appearances last season. Jan 25 - 1:12 PM

Joaquin Arias requested $1.1 million and was offered $750,000 from the Giants when arbitration figures were exchanged Friday.

Arias, 28, is arbitration-eligible for the first time this winter after hitting .270/.304/.389 with a .693 OPS in 344 plate appearances last season. It shouldn't take too much time to hammer out a satisfactory agreement.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy plans to play the red-hot Joaquin Arias more often.

Arias is sporting a major league-leading .429 average in August. "Left field is an option, as well as picking up his time at short. We'll go with the hot hand," said Bochy. Arias has played all of one career inning in the outfield, but Gregor Blanco is batting just .205/.330/.250 in the second half, so the Giants will give him a shot in left field.

Joaquin Arias went off against the Dodgers in Wednesday's win, homering, doubling twice and driving in five runs.

Amazingly, Arias now has two home runs in his past five games after going deep just once in his first 192 career contests. Unsurprisingly, the five RBI were a career high for the 27-year-old utilityman, who now has 49 lifetime runs driven in. All the production helped the Giants pull off a critical sweep of their hated rival. Despite the hot bat, Arias isn't more than a desperation option in NL-only leagues.

Joaquin Arias went 3-for-5 with a solo homer and three RBI as the Giants edged the Padres 8-7 on Saturday.

The Giants got an insurance run in the ninth and needed it, as the Padres came back with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Arias has been playing less with Marco Scutaro on the roster and Pablo Sandoval back from the DL, but he's actually gone 14-for-35 with six RBI this month. It wouldn't hurt to give him more at-bats at Ryan Theriot's expense.

Joaquin Arias drove home the eventual winning run on a fielder's choice in the Giants 2-1 victory over the Cubs on Saturday.

Arias finished the night 0-for-3, but his RBI was a crucial part of the Giants offense. He's seen the majority of his playing time at third base in the absence of Pablo Sandoval, but will likely get relegated back to bench duty upon Sandoval's return next week. He's not a consideration in any fantasy leagues at this point.

Joaquin Arias (forearm) is back in the Giants' starting lineup Friday against the Athletics.

Arias hasn't played since being hit in the left forearm by a pitch during Tuesday's game, but he's back at third base Friday. The 27-year-old is hitting .250 (14-for-56) with five RBI in 17 games this year and is getting a chance at playing time with Pablo Sandoval (hamate bone surgery) on the mend, but he's a pretty weak fantasy option, even in NL-only leagues.

Joaquin Arias (forearm) is not in Thursday's lineup.

Arias suffered a left forearm contusion Tuesday when he was struck by a pitch. X-rays have ruled out a fracture, but the Giants want the swelling to fully dissipate. Arias should be back at third base Friday night.

Joaquin Arias (forearm) is not in Wednesday's lineup.

Arias made an early exit from Tuesday's game against the Rockies after getting hit on the left forearm by a pitch. He only has a contusion, but the Giants are playing it safe. Emmanuel Burriss is playing third base on Wednesday night against the Cardinals.

Joaquin Arias is day-to-day after X-rays came back negative on his left forearm.

Arias left Tuesday's game against the Rockies in the fourth inning after he was hit in the left forearm by a pitch, but fortunately for the Giants, he was diagnosed with a contusion and managed to avoid serious injury. There's a chance he could play Wednesday, but the Giants may hold him out for a day to play it safe.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy has named Joaquin Arias his everyday third baseman while Pablo Sandoval (hand) is on the disabled list.

He was unofficially anointed once Conor Gillaspie was sent down, and now it's official. Arias has batted just .255/.300/.340 and hasn't hit a single homer over 326 career plate appearances. He's barely worth considering even in NL-only leagues.

Joaquin Arias went 3-for-4 and had the Giants' only extra-base hit and RBI in Monday's loss to the Dodgers.

Arias isn't going keep hitting like this and he certainly can't match Brandon Crawford defensively, but the Giants need to stick with him at shortstop while he's hot. He's 11-for-32 with five RBI since his callup April 25.

Giants purchased the contract of INF Joaquin Arias from Triple-A Fresno.

The Giants will announce a corresponding roster move involving Aubrey Huff prior to Wednesday's game. Arias was hitting .400 (28-for-70) with two homers and 17 RBI with Triple-A Fresno and will function as a backup infielder. He isn't worth adding in fantasy leagues.

The Giants will purchase the contract of INF Joaquin Arias from Triple-A Fresno prior to Wednesday's game.

This indicates that Aubrey Huff could be placed on the seven-day personal leave list while he attends to a family matter in Florida. Arias, who signed a minor league deal with the Giants over the winter, is hitting .400 (28-for-70) with two homers and 17 RBI over his first 18 games with the Grizzlies this season.

Giants signed INF Joaquin Arias to a minor league contract.

Arias spent all of 2011 at Triple-A in the Royals organization, batting just .232/.272/.353 over 259 plate appearances. He'll get an invite to spring training but is a longshot to make the team.
