Twins signed LHP Jason Lane to a minor league contract.
The 35-year-old transitioned from an outfielder to a reliever this past spring. The early returns weren't great, but the Twins will hope he eventually figures it out. Thu, Dec 6, 2012 12:20:00 PM

Diamondbacks released LHP Jason Lane.

Lane, who previously played with the Astros and Padres as an outfielder, signed with the D-Backs this offseason as a pitcher. However, the 35-year-old was given the boot after posting a 7.59 ERA and 18/6 K/BB ratio in 21 1/3 innings over 15 relief appearances with Triple-A Reno.

Diamondbacks signed LHP Jason Lane to a minor league contract.

Lane has played in the big leagues with the Astros and Padres as an outfielder, but the D-Backs are bringing him to camp as a pitcher. The 34-year-old posted a 4.85 ERA and 12/2 K/BB ratio over 13 innings in six relief appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas in the Blue Jays' organization this past season. He's a longshot to crack Arizona's roster, but it should be an interesting experiment to monitor.

Marlins signed OF Jason Lane to a minor league contract.

Lane should provide the Marlins some organizational depth in the minor leagues. He split 2008 between the Yankees and Red Sox farm systems and in 2009 batted .253 with an .810 OPS for the Blue Jays’ Triple-A team after failing to make the team in spring training.

Blue Jays reassigned OF Jason Lane, INF/OF Russ Adams, INF Brad Emaus, INF Scott Campbell and RHP Dirk Hayhurst to minor league camp; optioned RHP Brian Wolfe to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Lane and Emaus were the Jays' home run and RBI leaders this spring, with Lane hitting .358 with five homers and Emaus batting .3333 with four homers and 13 RBI. Still, Emaus was never a candidate to make the team and the Jays decided against going with Lane over Kevin Millar. Maybe someone else will step up and grab Lane before the season starts.

Jason Lane hit his fourth spring homer Sunday to help the Jays beat the Reds 5-4.

Lane is batting .324/.333/.706 as he attempts to win a bench spot. He's probably not going to be picked over Kevin Millar, so there will only be room for him if someone gets hurt or the Jays decide to cut an infielder, probably John McDonald.

Jason Lane, who hit his third homer of the spring on Friday, collected three more hits on Saturday to raise his average to .500.

One of the hits was a double. Lane is 10-for-20 this spring as he attempts to win a spot on Toronto's bench. He entered camp as a long shot. If everyone is healthy, then it would appear that Jose Bautista, Joe Inglett, John McDonald, Kevin Millar and Lane are competing for three spots (one will go to backup catcher Michael Barrett). Bautista's contract would seem to just about ensure him a job, and the Jays will have to carry at least one of the middle infielders. Millar and Lane should be hoping that the Jays end up trading either Scott Rolen or Lyle Overbay.

Jason Lane hit his second homer of the spring Friday as the Jays topped the Tigers 6-4.

It came off Fernando Rodney. Lane doesn't currently project as a member of the Jays' 25-man roster, but the team would probably find room for him if he hits 6-8 homers this spring. It'd certainly help his case if Vernon Wells had to start off on the DL.

Blue Jays signed outfielder Jason Lane and infielder Brandon Fahey to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Lane logged Triple-A time in the Yankees and Red Sox systems without ever playing in the majors last season. It sounds a lot like Carlos Pena's story, but while Lane has never had that kind of upside, he could help out against left-handers if given the chance. Fahey, a former Oriole, is just Triple-A roster filler.

Red Sox signed outfielder Jason Lane to a minor league contract and assigned him to Triple-A Pawtucket.

Lane was let go by the Yankees earlier this week after hitting .236/.340/.447 with 16 homers and 51 RBI in 97 games at Triple-A.

Jason Lane can opt out of his minor league contract with the Yankees if he's not called up by Tuesday.

Lane is hitting just .248, but has 11 homers and 37 RBI at Triple-A. He may get a look as a reserve outfielder if the Yankees decide to send down Shelley Duncan. "We have some decisions to make over the next few days," manager Joe Girardi said.

Jason Lane homered and doubled Sunday against the Phillies, leaving him 3-for-5 this spring.

Lane's slim chances of making the Yankees were reduced further with the addition of his former teammate in Houston and San Diego, Morgan Ensberg. Still, if he puts in a good spring, maybe another team will want him as a part-timer.

Yankees signed outfielder Jason Lane to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Lane doesn't make a lot of sense for the Yankees unless Shelley Duncan's health problems are more severe than everyone has been led to believe. He's not a bad option as a reserve outfielder, especially on a team with so many left-handed hitters, but the Yankees have had a chance to carry similar players in the past and passed.

According to the New York Post, the Yankees are interested in Jason Lane.

The newspaper speculates that the Yankees would use him at first base, but he's been exclusively an outfielder in parts of six major league seasons and the team already has Shelley Duncan and Wilson Betemit around in addition to Jason Giambi. Lane was non-tendered by the Padres after hitting .178 last season and is a career .241/.314/.457 hitter.

Padres acquired outfielder Jason Lane from the Astros for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

The Padres needed some outfield depth and got it, though Lane won't be eligible for a spot on the postseason roster. The Astros were likely to non-tender Lane anyway, so they don't mind making the trade. Lane, who hadn't started a game this month, was hitting .178/.257/.349 in 169 at-bats. The secondary skills are there to make him an asset when he's hitting .250. However, he hasn't displayed any ability to hit for average since 2005.
