Ryan Ludwick will throw on the field Friday for the first time since shoulder surgery in April.
That's a bit earlier than Ludwick previously estimated. However, he still thinks that he will not be ready to return for another two months. Most fantasy owners can afford to move on at this point. Jun 14 - 4:24 PM

Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) said Saturday that he'll be sidelined until "at least the middle of August."

When Ludwick had surgery in early April to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder, it was reported that he could return just after the All-Star break in a best-case scenario. But Luddy said that's not, and never was, a possibility. "People seem to be under the impression that I’ll be back in the middle of July and that’s a complete lie," Ludwick said. "I can’t even resume baseball activities until July 3, so it’s at least the middle of August. I can’t even throw a baseball or swing a bat until July. I’ve got a whole lot of stuff to do." Ludwick doesn't have enough upside to justify hanging onto him in fantasy leagues unless you're in a really deep format and have the DL space.

Reds transferred OF Ryan Ludwick from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

It's merely a procedural move. Ludwick has been ruled out until early July with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
Apr 15 - 2:31 PM

Reds placed OF Ryan Ludwick on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 2, with a torn labrum in his right shoulder.

Ludwick had surgery Wednesday to repair the shoulder and is expected to be sidelined for at least the next three months. Derrick Robinson will take his place on the roster while Chris Heisey figures to get most of the starts in left field.

Ryan Ludwick (shoulder) is expected to miss the next three months.

Ludwick damaged the labrum in his right shoulder in Monday's season-opener against the Angels and is scheduled to undergo surgery on Wednesday. It's a tough blow for the Reds, who will use Chris Heisey in left field in Ludwick's absence. Derrick Robinson is likely to be called up from the minors to add some outfield depth.
Apr 2 - 4:26 PM

Ryan Ludwick will undergo surgery Wednesday to repair torn cartilage in his right shoulder.

We likely won't know a timeline for his return until the surgery is complete, but it's fair to say that he's looking at an extended absence. The Reds will place him on the disabled list and make a corresponding roster move before Wednesday's game. Chris Heisey will get the majority of the playing time during his absence and is worth owning in deeper mixed leagues.
Apr 2 - 3:43 PM

Ryan Ludwick has been diagnosed with a dislocated right shoulder and will undergo an MRI on Tuesday.

Obviously, the disabled list is a given, but how extensive the injury is will be determined by the MRI. It's a tough break for Ludwick, but the Reds are covered pretty well with Chris Heisey, who will now see the bulk of the action in left field. It's possible Billy Hamilton will eventually be an option depending on how long Luddy is out, but he has to be considered a longshot call-up for now.
Apr 1 - 6:08 PM

Ryan Ludwick exited Monday's game against the Angels in the bottom of the third inning with an apparent right shoulder injury.

Ludwick suffered the injury on a head-first slide into third base. He walked in both of his plate appearances before exiting. Chris Heisey replaced him in the lineup and figures to get regular playing time if he needs a stint on the disabled list.
Apr 1 - 5:13 PM

Ryan Ludwick singled and belted a three-run homer in Wednesday's game versus Team Canada.

Both Ludwick and Miguel Olivo both went deep off of Trystan Magnuson. It's Ludwick's first longball this spring. The veteran outfielder is likely to fall back from last year's .877 OPS, but he should still give the Reds some solid production.
Mar 6 - 11:42 PM

Reds re-signed OF Ryan Ludwick to a two-year, $15 million contract.

The deal, which also includes a mutual option for 2015, has become official after Ludwick passed his physical Monday. The veteran outfielder earned a two-year deal after batting .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs and an .877 OPS over 125 games this past season for the Reds. He'll be their starting left fielder once again in 2013.

Ryan Ludwick will get $15 million in his two-year deal with the Reds.

Financial details are provided by Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. Ludwick was able to reestablish his value in 2012, batting .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs and an .877 OPS over 125 games. He's now under contract through the 2014 season.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman reports that the Reds have reached an agreement to re-sign outfielder Ryan Ludwick.

No word yet on the terms, but previous reports indicated that the Reds had offered Ludwick a two-year deal in the range of $13 to $14 million. The 34-year-old enjoyed a resurgent season in 2012, batting .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs and an .877 OPS, and is a decent bet for continued success playing half of his games in the hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark.

John Fay of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports that Ryan Ludwick is still mulling over whether to accept a contract with the Reds.

Fay hears that Ludwick has a two-year offer from the Reds believed to be in the $13 to $14 million range, but other teams are offering more. So he's weighing whether it's worth staying in Cincinnati for less. The Mets and Mariners are among the other teams who have expressed interest, but it's not clear whether they have made an offer.

Jim Duquette of MLB.com hears that Ryan Ludwick's deal with the Reds isn't done yet.

Duquette says it's likely that the outfielder winds up re-signing with the Reds, but he's still feeling out interest from other clubs. Ludwick is reportedly looking for a two-year pact in the $14 million range. He batted .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs for the Reds in 2012.

Yahoo! Sports' Jeff Passan hears that the Reds are "getting close on a deal" with Ryan Ludwick.

Passan adds that the Reds' offer "has been out there, and they expect it to get done." Jim Duquette of MLB.com reported previously that the veteran outfielder was looking for a two-year, $14 million deal. Ludwick made just $2.5 million in 2012 while batting .275/.346/.531 with 26 home runs.
