Reds declined OF Ryan Ludwick's $9 million option for 2015.
He'll receive a $4.5 million buyout and become a free agent. The Reds gave Ludwick a two-year, $15 million contract after a resurgent 2012 campaign, but a shoulder injury limited him to 38 games last year and he batted just .244 with nine homers and a .683 OPS over 112 games this season. Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a two-run double against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

With the bases loaded and one out, Ludwick came through with the big hit to give the Reds a lead. The outfielder has seven RBI in his last six games, giving him 40 RBI on the season. Ludwick owns a pedestrian .259/.319/.405 mark overall.

Ryan Ludwick blasted his eighth home run of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Rockies in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Ludwick also drew a walk in the contest, finishing 1-for-3. He's now hitting .260/.322/.408 on the season with eight homers and 38 RBI.
Aug 18 - 1:23 AM

Ryan Ludwick finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.

If not for Ludwick, the Reds might not have scored at all against Jorge De La Rosa. Ludwick doubled in a run in the second and later scored on a Zack Cozart single. Ludwick then blasted a home run to left field in the sixth, his seventh of the season. The 36-year-old has had a miserable second half. Even with Thursday's effort, he has a mediocre .259/.318/.399 slash line with 35 RBI.
Aug 14 - 11:49 PM

Ryan Ludwick went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Marlins on Friday.

Ludwick hit the double in the sixth inning against Chris Hatcher, who was relieving newly minted Marlin Jarred Cosart. The two runs ended up on Cosart's line. The RBI were just Ludwick's 30th and 31st of the season. At a .261/.324/.393 slash line, Ludwick doesn't really merit mixed league consideration.
Aug 1 - 11:09 PM

Ryan Ludwick proved to be the difference, driving in the go-ahead run with a single in the eighth inning as the Reds went on to defeat the Marlins on Thursday.

The game was 1-0 in favor of the Marlins entering the frame, but the Reds staged a rally against a tiring Tom Koehler and the Marlins' bullpen. The Reds tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly. Ludwick then put them ahead with a two-run single to center field. Ludwick has mostly been quiet at the plate this year, Thursday notwithstanding, as he holds a .261/.325/.391 slash line with six home runs and 27 RBI.
Jul 31 - 10:05 PM

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Reds are telling teams Ryan Ludwick is available.

Ludwick may be an option for teams that miss out on a more impactful bat like Marlon Byrd. The 36-year-old Ludwick is hitting .261/.326/.394 with six home runs this season, and he has a $9 million mutual option with a $4.5 million buyout for 2015.
Jul 30 - 11:24 PM

Ryan Ludwick is not in the Reds starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

It's just a routine day off for the veteran slugger who is hitting .265/.324/.400 with six homers and 26 RBI on the year. Chris Heisey will draw the start in his place in left field and hit seventh against Brandon McCarthy.
Jul 19 - 10:02 AM

Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-6 with a solo homer and two RBI against the Cubs on Thursday.

The homer was Ludwick's first in a month. He's been a part-time player of late, but not all that bad of one. Interestingly, he's hitting .383 and slugging .568 in 81 at-bats in day games this year, compared to .191 with a .301 slugging percentage in 136 at-bats in night games.
Jul 10 - 4:57 PM

Ryan Ludwick went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays.

Ludwick hadn't started since Tuesday because of back tightness, but obviously he's feeling better. The veteran outfielder is hitting .277/.340/.424 on the season.
Jun 22 - 4:22 AM

Ryan Ludwick was scratched from the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday due to back tightness.

The veteran is considered day-to-day. Chris Heisey will get the start in left field against the Pirates.
Jun 19 - 12:34 PM

Ryan Ludwick went 4-for-5 with three doubles and two runs scored against the Brewers on Sunday.

Ludwick had four of the Reds' 19 hits on the day as they victimized Marco Estrada and the Brewers bullpen. That no runners were on base for any of his three doubles is just bad luck, but the outfielder did come around to score twice. He's hitting .271/.330/.424 in 52 games this year.
Jun 15 - 6:36 PM

Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a homer Monday against the Dodgers.

Ludwick is a part-time player, but since he entered with great career numbers against Dan Haren, he was guaranteed the start tonight, and since he went on to homer off Haren, there's a good chance he'll be back in there tomorrow.
Jun 10 - 12:22 AM

Reds manager Bryan Price said Sunday that Ryan Ludwick, Chris Heisey and Skip Shumaker will share the left field position going forward.

Price had a conversation with Ludwick about the decision and said the veteran outfielder "was very professional." The position has been trending toward a timeshare of late, so it's no surprise that Price is making it official. Ludwick is hitting just .246/.314/.352 with three homers and 17 RBI this season.
Jun 1 - 2:22 PM

Ryan Ludwick hasn't started the last two games due to a minor quad injury.

Ludwick did pinch-hit Monday and was available to play Tuesday, so the ailment doesn't seem to be a big deal. However, it's not clear when he'll return to the lineup. "He's got just a little bit of discomfort in the top of his quad," Reds manager Bryan Price said. "It's enough where we didn't want to run him around in the outfield. He hit yesterday, he could have played yesterday, he could have played today. That being said, we don't want to have him out there somewhat hobbled trying to battle his way through that game. We felt better that we use him off the bench, we have guys who are 100 percent healthy that can go out there and play and we'll take a look tomorrow and see how he's feeling."
