Ryan Ludwick has retired from baseball.
Ludwick didn't latch on with another organization after getting released by the Rangers at the end of spring training last March. The outfielder wraps up his 12-year major league career with 923 hits, 154 home runs, and 587 RBI. His best year by far was 2008, when he slashed .299/.375/.591 with 37 home runs and 113 RBI in 152 games for the Cardinals. Thu, Jan 21, 2016 01:16:00 PM

Rangers released OF Ryan Ludwick.

Ludwick was informed earlier in the week that he would not make the team's Opening Day roster, and apparently has elected to seek a better opportunity. The 36-year-old batted just .200/.188/.300 with a homer and three RBI in 30 Cactus League at-bats.

Ryan Ludwick has been told he will not make the Rangers' Opening Day roster.

The club has yet to make an official move with the non-roster invitee, but Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News says Ludwick is "considering his options." The veteran outfielder had been battling with a host of others for at-bats in left field. He seems likely to ask for his release so that he can try to catch on elsewhere.

Rangers signed OF Ryan Ludwick to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Ludwick will receive a $1.75 million contract if he makes the major league roster. The 36-year-old batted just .244/.308/.375 with nine home runs over 112 games with the Reds last season, but the Rangers are willing to see if he still has something left in the tank. He'll compete with Ryan Rua, Michael Choice and Jake Smolinski for playing time.

Reds declined OF Ryan Ludwick's $9 million option for 2015.

He'll receive a $4.5 million buyout and become a free agent. The Reds gave Ludwick a two-year, $15 million contract after a resurgent 2012 campaign, but a shoulder injury limited him to 38 games last year and he batted just .244 with nine homers and a .683 OPS over 112 games this season.

Ryan Ludwick went 2-for-4 with a two-run double against the Cardinals on Tuesday.

With the bases loaded and one out, Ludwick came through with the big hit to give the Reds a lead. The outfielder has seven RBI in his last six games, giving him 40 RBI on the season. Ludwick owns a pedestrian .259/.319/.405 mark overall.

Ryan Ludwick blasted his eighth home run of the season, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Rockies in the nightcap of Sunday's doubleheader against the Rockies.

Ludwick also drew a walk in the contest, finishing 1-for-3. He's now hitting .260/.322/.408 on the season with eight homers and 38 RBI.

Ryan Ludwick finished 3-for-4 with an RBI double and a solo home run in Thursday's loss to the Rockies.

If not for Ludwick, the Reds might not have scored at all against Jorge De La Rosa. Ludwick doubled in a run in the second and later scored on a Zack Cozart single. Ludwick then blasted a home run to left field in the sixth, his seventh of the season. The 36-year-old has had a miserable second half. Even with Thursday's effort, he has a mediocre .259/.318/.399 slash line with 35 RBI.

Ryan Ludwick went 1-for-4 with a two-run double against the Marlins on Friday.

Ludwick hit the double in the sixth inning against Chris Hatcher, who was relieving newly minted Marlin Jarred Cosart. The two runs ended up on Cosart's line. The RBI were just Ludwick's 30th and 31st of the season. At a .261/.324/.393 slash line, Ludwick doesn't really merit mixed league consideration.

Ryan Ludwick proved to be the difference, driving in the go-ahead run with a single in the eighth inning as the Reds went on to defeat the Marlins on Thursday.

The game was 1-0 in favor of the Marlins entering the frame, but the Reds staged a rally against a tiring Tom Koehler and the Marlins' bullpen. The Reds tied the game at 1-1 on a sacrifice fly. Ludwick then put them ahead with a two-run single to center field. Ludwick has mostly been quiet at the plate this year, Thursday notwithstanding, as he holds a .261/.325/.391 slash line with six home runs and 27 RBI.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Reds are telling teams Ryan Ludwick is available.

Ludwick may be an option for teams that miss out on a more impactful bat like Marlon Byrd. The 36-year-old Ludwick is hitting .261/.326/.394 with six home runs this season, and he has a $9 million mutual option with a $4.5 million buyout for 2015.

Ryan Ludwick is not in the Reds starting lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees.

It's just a routine day off for the veteran slugger who is hitting .265/.324/.400 with six homers and 26 RBI on the year. Chris Heisey will draw the start in his place in left field and hit seventh against Brandon McCarthy.

Ryan Ludwick went 3-for-6 with a solo homer and two RBI against the Cubs on Thursday.

The homer was Ludwick's first in a month. He's been a part-time player of late, but not all that bad of one. Interestingly, he's hitting .383 and slugging .568 in 81 at-bats in day games this year, compared to .191 with a .301 slugging percentage in 136 at-bats in night games.

Ryan Ludwick went 1-for-3 with a two-RBI single in Saturday's win over the Blue Jays.

Ludwick hadn't started since Tuesday because of back tightness, but obviously he's feeling better. The veteran outfielder is hitting .277/.340/.424 on the season.

Ryan Ludwick was scratched from the Reds' starting lineup on Thursday due to back tightness.

The veteran is considered day-to-day. Chris Heisey will get the start in left field against the Pirates.
