Rangers signed LHP Scott Olsen to a minor league contract.
Olsen missed all of 2011 due to shoulder woes and appeared in just three games in the White Sox' minor league system in 2012 before being released. The lefty will turn just 29 in January, but he hasn't had modicum of success in the bigs since 2008 and is a longshot to ever make it up with the Rangers. Fri, Nov 16, 2012 10:30:00 AM

White Sox released LHP Scott Olsen.

Olsen made just three appearances for the Sox in the minors, giving up two runs over five innings, before getting the boot. It's not clear why the move was made, as it seems surprising given the team's lack of pitching depth. Olsen will look to catch on elsewhere.

White Sox signed LHP Scott Olsen to a minor league contract.

The deal includes a major-league option for 2013. Olsen signed a one-year contract with the Pirates last offseason, but didn't throw a pitch for the club due to ongoing shoulder issues and was granted his release in May. We're not expecting things to suddenly turn around for him with Chicago.

Pirates released LHP Scott Olsen.

Olsen landed on the 60-day disabled list back on April 26 due to inflammation in his throwing shoulder. He'll have to prove his health before getting any nibbles as a long reliever. Shoulder issues have been chronic with Olsen, who signed a one-year, $550,000 base contract with the Pirates this offseason.

Pirates transferred LHP Scott Olsen from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list.

Olsen is still being bothered by inflammation in his throwing shoulder and won't be ready to contribute at the big league level until late May or even early June.

Scott Olsen was placed on the disabled list due to shoulder inflammation, not because of a hamstring injury as originally suspected.

Olsen dealt with the hamstring ailment for most of camp, but it doesn't seem to be the issue anymore. It's not clear if this will push back his expected return date. Olsen will serve as a long reliever when ready.

Pirates placed LHP Scott Olsen on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 22, with a strained left hamstring.

The hamstring injury that Olsen suffered in early March still isn't fully healed. He should be ready to serve as a long reliever by the end of this month.

Scott Olsen (hamstring) confirmed Monday that he will open the season on the 15-day disabled list.

Olsen suffered a hamstring strain in early March and wasn't able to get properly stretched out for starting or bullpen duties. He should return as a long reliever by the end of April.

Scott Olsen is no longer being considered for a spot in the Pirates' starting rotation.

Olsen hasn't been able to get stretched out enough due to hamstring injury that he suffered in early March. The Bucs may ask him to open the season on the 15-day disabled list and are likely to use him in long relief once he returns. He can be avoided for fantasy purposes.

Scott Olsen allowed a run in an inning of relief Monday against the Orioles in his spring debut.

Nick Green homered off him. Olsen is going to have to build up his arm quickly if he hopes to get back into the rotation picture for the Marlins. He had been sidelined by a strained left hamstring.

Scott Olsen (hamstring) threw a second straight successful round of live batting practice Friday.

It's not clear when he'll get the ball in a game, but it should be soon. Olsen has fallen behind due to the injury in his bid to win the final spot in the rotation, but it's possible he'll be needed by default if James McDonald (side) is out a while. Both Charlie Morton and Brian Burres have pitched really well, though, so Olsen, who has expressed a hesitancy to be used out of the bullpen, might be on the outside looking in.

Scott Olsen (elbow) is scheduled to throw 35 pitches in live batting practice Friday.

Olsen is finally back on track from his strained left hamstring. The left-hander already threw two innings against live hitters on Tuesday and should be close to his spring debut if all goes well Friday. Still, he's running out of time to be in the mix for the fifth starter gig.

Scott Olsen (hamstring) is scheduled to throw another bullpen session Saturday.

Olsen has been sidelined for the early part of the exhibition schedule as he recovers from a strained left hamstring. The Pirates are hopeful that he will be able to pitch in games by as soon as next week, but he'll need to throw two live batting practice sessions first. The 27-year-old left-hander is competing against Charlie Morton, Brad Lincoln, Brian Burres and Daniel McCutchen for the final spot in the starting rotation.

Scott Olsen isn't interested in being a reliever for the Pirates.

"They didn’t bring me in here to be a bullpen guy," Olsen said. "They want to do that, we are going to have to have a conversation." Olsen is competing mainly with Charlie Morton for the final spot in the Pirates rotation, and it sounds like he wouldn't be happy losing out on that spot. We can't blame him, as he'll make a guaranteed $500,000 in 2011 but can earn an additional $3 million based on how many starts he makes.

Scott Olsen (hamstring) threw a successful bullpen session of 25 fastballs Friday.

He did the same on Thursday. Due to a strained hamstring, he has missed the past week. Olsen has reported no abnormal pain or discomfort in his left hamstring during the sessions.
