Phillies placed RHP Jerome Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.
It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but there might not be a rotation spot waiting for him when he's ready given his 6.43 ERA. Severino Gonzalez is an option to replace Williams in the rotation for now until Chad Billingsley (lat) is ready. Jun 17 - 3:30 PM

Jerome Williams (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Williams strained his left hamstring during Tuesday's game when he did the splits while covering home plate. He left Camden Yards on crutches and a lengthy stay on the DL could be in the offing. The Phillies could give Severino Gonzalez another look as a replacement until Chad Billingsley (lat) is ready to return.
Jun 17 - 11:09 AM

Jerome Williams yielded six runs over two-thirds of an inning as the Phillies were manhandled by the Orioles on Tuesday.

It was the Murphy's Law of starts: everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Williams allowed four hits and two walks, as well as uncorking two wild pitches. The second wild pitch led to a hamstring injury. He now has a 6.43 ERA with a 1.70 WHIP and a 41/19 K/BB ratio over 70 innings. Williams is likely headed to the disabled list, which means he won't make his next scheduled start at home against the Cardinals.
Jun 16 - 11:18 PM

Jerome Williams has been diagnosed with a strained left hamstring.

Williams was injured when he did the splits while covering home plate following a wild pitch during Tuesday's start. It's not clear at this point how long he'll be out, but a trip to the disabled list seems likely.
Jun 16 - 8:26 PM

Jerome Williams left Tuesday's start against the Orioles with a possible groin injury.

Williams did the splits while covering home plate following a wild pitch and walked off the field gingerly after getting to his feet. The veteran right-hander was battered for six runs on four hits and two walks over just two-thirds of an inning before exiting. The Phillies will be able to stash him on the disabled list now rather than removing him from the rotation, as if Williams' 6.43 ERA wasn't reason enough for the demotion.
Jun 16 - 7:38 PM

Jerome Williams was tagged for four runs over six innings in Wednesday's loss to the Reds.

All four runs came in the first inning, as Williams yielded four hits -- including a three-run homer -- in the frame. He settled in after that but by then it was too late. Williams now has a 5.71 ERA for the season and likely would've been booted from the rotation by now if the Phillies had options. He'll get the Orioles next.
Jun 10 - 4:14 PM

Jerome Williams gave up four runs and lasted just 4 1/3 innings Friday against the Giants.

Williams allowed nine hits, including a pair of home runs. He has failed to complete six innings in seven out of his last eight starts and owns an ugly 5.68 ERA on the year. Only five qualified starters in MLB have a higher ERA so far this season.
Jun 5 - 10:39 PM

Jerome Williams allowed a pair of two-run home runs, accounting for all four runs he allowed in five innings in Sunday's loss to the Rockies.

Nolan Arenado hit the first of the pair, giving the Rockies an early 2-0 cushion. D.J. LeMahieu hit the second, pushing the Rockies' lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning. Williams gave up eight hits overall on the afternoon but walked none and struck out four. His numbers continue to disappoint, now sitting on a 5.49 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP and a 36/16 K/BB ratio over 59 innings. Williams toes the rubber at home facing the Giants in his next outing.
May 31 - 4:47 PM

Jerome Williams notched a quality start, allowing three runs in six innings, but got a no-decision as the Phillies lost in 10 innings to the Mets on Tuesday.

All three runs scored in the third inning on a Lucas Duda RBI single and a two-run single by Michael Cuddyer. Williams walked four, gave up five hits, and struck out four. It's the first time he pitched into the sixth inning in six May starts. Williams owns a poor 5.33 ERA with a 1.59 WHIP and a 32/16 K/BB ratio in 54 innings. He'll take on the Reds at home in his next outing.
May 26 - 10:42 PM

Jerome Williams was knocked around for five runs over five innings Thursday in a loss to the Rockies.

Ugly stuff. Williams gave up eight hits (including a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth) and issued three walks while hitting a batter. He failed to record a strikeout for the first time in a start since May 15, 2007. The veteran right-hander now has a 5.44 ERA through nine starts and shouldn't be anywhere near your fantasy roster. Unless you have a hitter who is facing him, that is.
May 21 - 6:42 PM

Jerome Williams allowed three runs (two earned) over five innings in Saturday's win over the Diamondbacks.

Williams gave up an RBI single to Nick Ahmed in the fourth inning and a two-run homer to Paul Goldschmidt in the fifth to account for the runs on his line. He wriggled around seven hits through his five innings and struck out four without walking a batter. Williams' numbers are less than stellar, as he holds a 5.02 ERA and 1.53 WHIP. He's pitched to a 28/9 K/BB ratio in 43 innings. Next up for Williams, a road start against the Rockies.
May 16 - 11:40 PM

Jerome Williams took the loss on Monday versus the Pirates, yielding three runs over five innings.

All three runs scored on Starling Marte's three-run home run in the third inning. Williams was otherwise solid, allowing four hits overall while walking two and striking out four. He's struggled in three May starts and now carries a 5.21 ERA with a 1.55 WHIP and a 24/9 K/BB ratio in 38 innings. Williams will face the Diamondbacks in a home start next, and can continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues.
May 11 - 10:34 PM

Jerome Williams got the loss on Wednesday against the Braves, yielding six runs in 4 1/3 innings.

Williams was decent up until the fifth inning when the Braves pounded out four runs to end his evening. Overall, he gave up eight hits, walked none, and struck out three. Despite the outing, Williams has mostly done a good job for the Phillies, but he carries an ugly 5.18 ERA with a 1.61 WHIP and a 20/7 K/BB ratio in 33 innings. He's of no use for fantasy purposes. Williams will match up with the Pirates at home in his next outing.
May 6 - 10:34 PM

Jerome Williams struggled in a no-decision against the Marlins on Friday, allowing three runs on seven hits over his five frames.

The veteran right-hander punched out two and walked two on the evening. Most of the damage against him came in the fifth inning, where Martin Prado delivered an RBI single and Giancarlo Stanton followed with a run-scoring double. While he hasn't been great, Williams has at least been serviceable and will carry a 4.08 ERA into Wednesday's start against the Braves in Atlanta.
May 1 - 11:49 PM

Jerome Williams allowed three runs on eight hits in 6 2/3 innings during Sunday's win over the Braves.

Williams walked two and struck out two in the contest. The Braves did all of their damage early, with a pair of runs scoring in the first inning via a two-run single by Jace Peterson and another running coming in during the third when Kelly Johnson hit a shallow double to score Freddie Freeman. Williams has been solid for the Phillies thus far, posting a 3.80 ERA and 15/5 K/BB ratio across 23 2/3 innings. Considering he was out of baseball completely from 2007-2011, it's remarkable that the 33-year-old appears to have found new legs. Williams will square off with the Marlins in a road start when he next takes the mound.
