Phillies re-signed RHP Jerome Williams to a one-year, $2.5 million contract.
The deal includes performance-based bonuses that could carry the total value up to $4 million. Williams was a nice surprise down the stretch this year for Philadelphia, posting a 2.83 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 38/17 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings (nine starts), but expecting him to replicate that success over a full season is probably foolish. The 32-year-old right-hander owns a 4.40 career ERA and a 1.36 career WHIP. Oct 21 - 5:14 PM

Jerome Williams took a no-decision in his final start of the season, yielding four runs in six innings as the Phillies earned a 5-4 win against the Braves on Friday.

Williams didn't have his best stuff, which hasn't been said often since joining the Phillies in early August. He gave up eight hits, walked one, and struck out three. In nine starts with the Phillies, Williams is 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA and a 38/17 K/BB ratio in 57 1/3 innings. The 32-year-old has rebuilt a bit of value and should be able to latch on somewhere in the off-season.
Sep 26 - 9:59 PM

Jerome Williams earned a win on Saturday after holding the Athletics scoreless over seven innings.

According to Elias Sports Bureau, Williams is the first to defeat the same team (Athletics) three times with three different teams (Astros, Rangers, Phillies). Williams held the A's to just four hits while walking one and striking out three. The 32-year-old has pitched well since joining the Phillies, now 4-2 with a 2.45 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and a 35/16 K/BB ratio. Williams will make his final start of the season at home against the Braves on Friday.
Sep 20 - 7:15 PM

Jerome Williams surrendered a mere unearned run, scattering three hits over 7 2/3 innings, in Monday's tough-luck 1-0 setback against the Padres.

Williams struck out six and walked two. He picked an interesting night on which to put forth his best performance of the season, having served up nine runs over 10 innings in his last two starts. The right-hander had a 6.71 ERA between his work with the Astros and Rangers earlier this year, but he's turned things around with a 2.84 ERA since he joined the National League. Williams faces a familiar AL West foe when he squares off against the A's in Oakland on Sunday.
Sep 16 - 12:31 AM

Jerome Williams lost his first game since joining the Phillies, surrendering four runs over five innings against the Pirates on Wednesday.

Williams needed 37 pitches to get out of the first inning after the Pirates plated two runs on a Russell Martin single. To Williams' credit, he settled down until the fifth, when the Pirates pushed across two more runs. All in all, the right-hander gave up seven hits and a walk while striking out a season-high eight. Williams has been solid since joining the Phillies, but his last two starts have been mediocre. He owns a 3.44 ERA and a 26/13 K/BB ratio in red pinstripes. The Padres await him in his next start, which will occur in San Diego on Monday.
Sep 10 - 10:35 PM

Jerome Williams surrendered five runs (four earned) in five innings in Friday's 9-8 win over the Nationals.

Williams did not factor into the decision. He served up a two-run home run to Adam LaRoche in the first inning and was off to the run-allowing races after that. He proceeded to give up a sacrifice fly in the fourth and a two-run double to Anthony Rendon in the fifth. Williams struck out three and walked two to go with the nine hits he allowed. Despite the rough outing, he still holds an ERA of 2.84 with the Phillies, though his overall ERA of 5.34 looks considerably less shiny.
Sep 6 - 12:13 AM

Jerome Williams held the Mets to two earned runs in 6 1/3 innings Saturday in the Phillies' 7-2 win.

Williams has now been victorious in three straight starts for the Phils. He gave up only four hits Saturday and struck out three. The 32-year-old right-hander will try to continue defying the odds next week in Washington, D.C.
Aug 30 - 10:16 PM

Jerome Williams limited the Cardinals to one run over eight innings as the Phillies prevailed 7-1 on Sunday.

Williams continued his resurgence since joining the Phillies rotation. The 32-year-old gave up just five hits and walked three. Williams is now 2-0 with a 1.77 ERA in three starts with the Phils. He's worth a look in NL-only leagues down the stretch. Williams will try to keep it up when he takes on the Mets on Saturday.
Aug 24 - 4:32 PM

Jerome Williams earned his first win as a Phillie, allowing one run over seven innings against the Mariners on Monday.

Williams went to the National League but has faced an AL team in each of his two starts with the Phillies, and both have been solid. On Monday, he limited the Mariners to three hits and three walks while striking out four. Williams was pulled after allowing a lead-off single to begin the eighth inning. Reliever Ken Giles would later allow the run to score. Williams has yielded only three runs in 12 1/3 innings with the Phillies. He'll try to keep it up when he takes on the Cardinals at home next Sunday.
Aug 18 - 10:00 PM

In his Phillies' debut, Jerome Williams allowed two runs in 5 1/3 innings of work against the Angels on Tuesday.

Williams, of course, is very familiar with the AL West after being claimed off waivers from the Rangers over the weekend. Between his work with Houston and Texas earlier this season, Williams posted a horrific 6.71 ERA over 28 appearances. Tucked into that number were eight earned runs in seven innings against the Angels in relief work, so this ho-hum outing was a step in the right direction. The right-hander is scheduled to face an AL West opponent once again next week, with a date against the Mariners on Monday.
Aug 13 - 1:12 AM

Phillies claimed RHP Jerome Williams off waivers from the Rangers.

Williams has been awful this season, posting a 6.71 ERA over 28 appearances for the Astros and Rangers. However, he's probably a better option for the rotation than Sean O'Sullivan, who was designated for assignment. Williams figures to get the ball on Tuesday versus the Angels in what was expected to be O'Sullivan's turn.
Aug 10 - 2:08 PM

Rangers designated RHP Jerome Williams for assignment.

It's the second time this season he's been designated for assignment. Williams has managed just a 6.71 ERA over 28 relief appearances for the Astros and Rangers. He'll surely have to settle for a minor league deal somewhere.
Aug 8 - 4:30 PM

Jerome Williams allowed ten runs in four innings of work against the Indians on Friday.

Understatement of the Week: Jerome Williams' second start with the Rangers went much, much worse than his first one. The Indians were knocking him around from the start on Friday, with one run in the first, two in the third, two in the fourth and three in the fifth to go with thirteen hits. As if that weren't enough, Williams also walked three. His ERA now sits at 6.71 and it's tough to imagine Texas giving him many more opportunities.
Aug 1 - 11:25 PM

Jerome Williams tossed six innings of one-run ball in a 4-1 win over the Athletics on Friday.

Well, we weren't expecting that. Making his Rangers' debut, Williams held the A's to five hits and no walks while striking out five. The only run scored on an RBI single by Yoenis Cespedes in his final inning of work. Williams has likely earned another opportunity, but we're not expecting fantasy relevancy moving forward.
Jul 25 - 11:40 PM

Rangers purchased the contract of RHP Jerome Williams from Triple-A Round Rock.

Williams will join the rotation on Friday against the Blue Jays. The veteran right-hander held a 6.04 ERA and 38/16 K/BB ratio over 47 2/3 relief innings with the Astros earlier this season and is not a fantasy option.
