Cardinals signed RHP Jerome Williams to a minor league contract.
Williams underwent Achilles surgery in January and hasn't pitched anywhere this season, but he's presumably ready to appear in games now. The 34-year-old is merely organizational depth. Jun 3 - 5:33 PM

SB Nation's Chris Cotillo reports that Jerome Williams recently underwent surgery on his Achilles.

Williams is expected to miss the first couple months of the regular season. The 34-year-old is currently a free agent and it seems likely that he'll now stay that way until he gets healthy.

Jerome Williams was handed his 10th loss of the season on Tuesday facing the Mets, as he gave up five runs (four earned) in 5 1/3 innings.

Williams served up a two-run home run to Yoenis Cespedes in the first inning, then an RBI double to opposing starter Noah Syndergaard in the second. The right-hander would settle in, but tired in the sixth as he gave up a walk and a single before departing. Reliever Jeanmar Gomez granted both inherited runners access to home plate. Williams, nothing more than an innings-eater at this point, has a 6.13 ERA with a 1.66 WHIP and a 65/29 K/BB ratio over 105 2/3 innings. He could be dropped from the rotation in September. As for now, he's on track to pitch against the Padres at home.

Jerome Williams was pounded for eight runs in 1 1/3 innings by the Marlins on Thursday.

Williams is 4-9 with a 6.10 ERA, but there's probably still no taking him out of the Phillies rotation. He had pitched well in three consecutive starts leading up to this one, infuriating DFS players along the way.

Jerome Williams pitched well in Saturday's loss to the Brewers, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits over six innings.

Williams struck out four without walking a batter. Both runs on his line scored in the fifth inning on a pair of RBI singles by Scooter Gennett and Elian Herrera. He's now allowed just four runs over his last three starts, covering 18 innings. The 33-year-old right-hander will take a 5.47 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 59/23 K/BB ratio across 98 2/3 innings into his next outing, a road tilt with the Marlins.

Jerome Williams was stellar in Sunday's 5-3 win over the Padres, allowing just one run on five hits over seven innings.

The only run to score against Williams came in the sixth inning, when Justin Upton took him deep for a solo home run. This start looks like an aberration when placed against what he's done for the bulk of the season, as he's the owner of a 5.73 ERA, 1.63 WHIP and 55/23 K/BB ratio over 92 2/3 innings. A road date with the Brewers is up next for Williams as two very, very bad teams collide for a weekend of fun.

Jerome Williams allowed 10 runners to reach base in five innings, but yielded only one run in a no-decision as the Phillies rallied late to beat the Dodgers on Tuesday.

Williams allowed seven hits and three walks while striking out six. He had at least two runners on base in each of his final three innings, but somehow managed to give up only the one run in the fifth. The right-hander has a poor 6.09 ERA, 1.70 WHIP, and a 52/23 K/BB ratio in 85 2/3 innings. Williams will match up with the Padres on the road in his next outing.

Jerome Williams served up four runs in 4 2/3 innings, taking the loss on Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

If there was a bright side to the outing, it was that the Blue Jays only scored against him four times. They racked up 10 hits and chased him in the fifth inning. He walked none and struck out one. It hasn't been a good year for Williams, as he has a 6.36 ERA, a 1.69 WHIP, and a 46/20 K/BB ratio over 80 2/3 innings. He has a tall task coming up with a home start against the Dodgers.

Jerome Williams logged a quality start against the Cubs in his return from the disabled list on Friday, allowing three runs on six hits over his six innings of work.

Williams punched out four while walking one on the afternoon. The big blow against him was a two-run blast off the bat of Chris Coghlan in the third inning. Even with the decent outing, the right-hander sports a troublesome 6.28 ERA and 1.66 WHIP on the year and isn't a recommended option against the Braves on Thursday.

Jerome Williams will rejoin the Phillies' starting rotation on Friday against the Cubs.

Williams was activated from the disabled list on Monday night after missing four weeks with a strained left hamstring. He has a 6.43 ERA on the season and is obviously a terrible fantasy bet Friday night versus Chicago.

Phillies activated RHP Jerome Williams from the 15-day disabled list.

He'll rejoin the rotation at some point this week, although it's unclear when exactly it will happen. Williams has missed the last month with a strained hamstring and holds an ugly 6.43 ERA for the season.

Jerome Williams (hamstring) is headed to Double-A Reading to begin a rehab assignment.

Williams will make two rehab starts before likely rejoining the Phillies' rotation. As pathetic as it sounds given his 6.43 ERA, they could use him given how difficult it's been for them to find innings from their starters.

Phillies placed RHP Jerome Williams on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring.

It's unclear at this point how long he'll be sidelined, but there might not be a rotation spot waiting for him when he's ready given his 6.43 ERA. Severino Gonzalez is an option to replace Williams in the rotation for now until Chad Billingsley (lat) is ready.

Jerome Williams (hamstring) is expected to be placed on the disabled list.

Williams strained his left hamstring during Tuesday's game when he did the splits while covering home plate. He left Camden Yards on crutches and a lengthy stay on the DL could be in the offing. The Phillies could give Severino Gonzalez another look as a replacement until Chad Billingsley (lat) is ready to return.

Jerome Williams yielded six runs over two-thirds of an inning as the Phillies were manhandled by the Orioles on Tuesday.

It was the Murphy's Law of starts: everything that could go wrong did go wrong. Williams allowed four hits and two walks, as well as uncorking two wild pitches. The second wild pitch led to a hamstring injury. He now has a 6.43 ERA with a 1.70 WHIP and a 41/19 K/BB ratio over 70 innings. Williams is likely headed to the disabled list, which means he won't make his next scheduled start at home against the Cardinals.
