Jeremy Affeldt (shoulder) is expected to rejoin the Giants on Tuesday or Wednesday.

The veteran southpaw is on a minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Sacramento and should only need a couple of outings before he's ready to return. Before hitting the disabled list on June 26 with a strained shoulder, he posted a troublesome 5.96 ERA and 1.81 WHIP.

The 36-year-old left-hander has struggled this season to the tune of a 5.96 ERA and 1.81 WHIP. He finished the 2014 campaign with a 2.28 ERA and a 1.10 WHIP.

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Saturday that Jeremy Affeldt will need more than two minor league rehab appearances before he's ready to rejoin the Giants bullpen.

That means that it could be the end of next week, as opposed to April 9 when he's first eligible, that Affeldt returns to the Giants. He'll return to his usual setup role upon returning.

Jeremy Affeldt will miss 10 to 14 days due to a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee.

The left-hander will start the season on the disabled list as a result of the injury. It's a tough blow, as Affeldt missed two months last year due to a strained left groin. The Giants signed him to a three-year, $18 million contract last winter are hoping to have him back by mid-April.

Jeremy Affeldt (groin) is scheduled to pitch an inning in Monday's Cactus League contest against the Padres.

The veteran left-hander missed the final two months of the 2013 regular season with a strained left groin, and has been brought along cautiously in his rehab. He still has sufficient time to get himself game-ready before the start of the regular season.

Giants general manager Brian Sabean said Monday that Jeremy Affeldt (groin) is nearing 100 percent.

Affeldt missed most of the last two months of the season due to a left groin strain, but it doesn't sound like he'll be behind at all in spring training. The veteran left-hander posted a 3.74 ERA and 1.31 WHIP in 33 2/3 innings this past season.
