The Chunichi Dragons of Japan's Central League have signed Jorge Sosa to a one-year contract.

Jorge Sosa, starting in place of Josh Johnson, was ripped for six runs -- four earned -- over just 2 1/3 innings against the Phillies on Wednesday.

We almost feel bad for Sosa. He was called out of the bullpen for this one and had to face one of the hottest offenses in the league with Roy Halladay on the hill. On top of that, Sosa doesn't have good stuff. This had meltdown written all over it.

Good luck with that one. Sosa, 33, has a 5.82 ERA in 15 relief appearances with the Marlins this season and posted a 4.73 ERA in 23 games (nine starts) with Triple-A New Orleans.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Jorge Sosa from Triple-A New Orleans.

Sosa hasn't exactly opened any eyes this season, whether in the minors or during a short stay with the Marlins back in late July. He will act as a mop-up reliever for the Fish until season's end.

The Marlins on Tuesday will option reliever Jay Buente to Triple-A New Orleans and designated fellow reliever Jorge Sosa for assignment, according to Clark Spencer.

Both had ERAs north of 6 and fantasy values south of zero. Sosa will probably clear waivers and join Buente in New Orleans soon.

Marlins purchased the contract of RHP Jorge Sosa from Triple-A New Orleans.

He'll take the place of Dan Meyer on the roster. Sosa, 32, was 4-1 with a 3.78 ERA over eight games (seven starts) with the Zephyrs. He posted a 6.45 ERA in 18 games with the Nationals last season and hasn't been an effective pitcher in the major leagues for quite some time now. We don't expect that to change.

Sosa signed a minor league deal with the Fish earlier this month and has spent the last few weeks getting warmed up at extended spring training. The 32-year-old pitched for the Nationals last season and posted an ugly 6.45 ERA and 1.79 WHIP in 18 games before being designated for assignment. He's unlikely to make an impact at the major league level this season.

Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that right-hander Jorge Sosa is not in camp due to visa issues.

This seems to be an annual problem for him. Sosa, who turns 32 in April, was signed to a minor league contract by the Red Sox in January. The veteran posted an ugly 6.45 ERA and 1.79 WHIP for the Nationals last season. He doesn't figure to make the major league roster, anyway.
