Andres Torres left Thursday's game with soreness in his left foot.

The Giants are saying his exit was precautionary. Consider Torres day-to-day.
Mar 21 - 11:32 PM

Andres Torres had a terrific all-around day in Friday's 5-2 win over the Rangers in Cactus League action, going 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI.

Torres was also active on the bases, netting his first steal of the spring season. He missed a few weeks of action with an oblique injury, but appears to be back on track and should be ready to go for Opening Day. He's expected to serve as the Giants fourth outfielder, unless he can beat out Gregor Blanco for the starting job in left field.

Andres Torres (oblique) returned to the lineup Monday.

A strained oblique had kept Torres on the shelf for a couple weeks. As long as he can avoid a setback, he has plenty of time to get in enough at-bats in preparation for Opening Day.
Mar 11 - 11:57 AM

Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Andres Torres (oblique) could pinch-hit this weekend.

Torres has been sidelined for a little over a week with an oblique strain. He had to pull out of the World Baseball Classic but should be fine for MLB's Opening Day.
Mar 7 - 5:47 PM

Andres Torres will not participate in the World Baseball Classic because of an oblique strain.

He will also miss a full week of camp because of the injury, which was revealed during an MRI taken Wednesday. Torres was hoping to represent his native Puerto Rico.
Feb 28 - 11:39 AM

Andres Torres will play for Puerto Rico in the upcoming World Baseball Classic.

He'll be joined by new teammate Angel Pagan. Torres returned to the Giants over the winter on a one-year, $2 million contract and is expected to platoon with Gregor Blanco in left field this season.
Feb 12 - 12:39 PM

Giants signed OF Andres Torres to a one-year, $2 million contract.

Torres has passed his physical, making the deal official. The 34-year-old spent 2009-11 with the Giants, having a career year in '09 when he belted 16 homers while stealing 26 bases. He's struggled the last two seasons, though, and his best chance at playing time this time around will be to beat out Gregor Blanco for the left field job. Ultimately, he'll likely serve as a backup at all three outfield spots.

CSN Bay Area's Andrew Baggarly reports that the Giants have reached a one-year agreement with Andres Torres.

CBS Sports' Jon Heyman says it's worth $2 million. Torres was non-tendered by the Mets last month after batting just .230/.327/.337 across 434 plate appearances in 2012. The 34-year-old will battle Gregor Blanco for playing time in left field out in San Francisco and can serve as a backup at the other two outfield spots.

The Mets will not tender a contract to OF Andres Torres.

An expected move, as Torres was set to get a slight raise in arbitration from the $2.7 million salary that he earned in 2012. The Mets have expressed interest in bringing him back as a lesser rate, but he's probably best utilized as a fourth outfielder and backup center fielder at this point.

Even though the Mets plan on non-tendering Andres Torres, they are still open to bringing the outfielder back at a discounted rate.

If they chose to go to arbitration, Torres would be due a slight raise on the $2.7 million that he earned in 2012. It's speculated they'd be interested in bringing him back for roughly half that rate, and perhaps as a bench bat.

Adam Rubin of ESPN New York speculates that the Mets will non-tender Andres Torres this winter.

It's not all that surprising. Torres made $2.7 million this season and is due to get a raise this winter through arbitration. The Mets will likely look for an alternative in center field via the trade market.

Andres Torres (knee) finished 0-for-3 with a walk in his return to action Sunday against the Braves.

Torres sat out of Saturday's game due to a left knee contusion. It was never a major concern for the Mets.

Andres Torres (knee) is not in the Mets' lineup Saturday against the Braves.

Torres was diagnosed with a left knee contusion Friday and is day-to-day. Jordany Valdespin will continue to replace him in center field. The Mets' other lineup changes have Ruben Tejada returning for the first time since his four strikeout game Wednesday, and Josh Thole starting for Kelly Shoppach.
