Padres sent OF Oscar Salazar outright to Triple-A Nashville.

Salazar was designated for assignment on February 1 to clear a roster spot for pitcher Samuel Deduno. The 32-year-old outfielder batted just .237 with a .318 on-base percentage over 131 at-bats last season for the Padres and will now have to climb his way back to the big leagues.

Padres designated OF Oscar Salazar for assignment.

The Padres claimed Samuel Deduno off waivers from the Rockies last week and needed to clear a space on their 40-man roster. So Salazar got the boot. He batted just .237/.318/.336 over 131 at-bats last season.

Padres activated OF Oscar Salazar from the 15-day disabled list.

Salazar, 32, spent the last month on the disabled list due to a strained achilles tendon. He will play only sparingly for the Pads in September.

Padres placed OF Oscar Salazar on 15-day disabled list with a strained right achilles tendon.

Salazar may or may not be truly in need of a DL stint, but the Padres need to open up a roster spot for Ryan Ludwick, so the move is convenient. It's not known how much time he's expected to miss.

Oscar Salazar made the Padres a winner Thursday with a pinch-hit, walk-off single.

The base knock scored Scott Hairston, who led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second base by Tony Gwynn. Salazar came into the contest hitting under .200 on the year as a pinch hitter and .211 against left-handers, but he picked up the hit off Dodgers' reliever George Sherrill. The Padres are now 60-40 and have a 3 1/2 game lead over the Giants in the NL West.

Oscar Salazar stole his first career base Wednesday in the win over the Giants.

It was part of a double-steal, with Jerry Hairston Jr. taking third ahead of him. Still, it was a tough night for Bengie Molina. The Padres were 4-for-4 stealing, and Molina also had a couple of passed balls. Salazar, 31, was 0-for-2 stealing bases in 135 major league games. Oddly enough, that second caught stealing came courtesy of Molina on Monday.

Oscar Salazar hit a pinch-hit home run in a win over the Nationals on Tuesday night.

Salazar returned to action after slamming his knee into the wall during Monday's game. He has an outstanding .378/.405/.608 line with four homers and 13 RBI in 74 at-bats this season, but trading for a 31-year-old pinch-hitter is still might puzzling.

Oscar Salazar suffered an apparent knee injury after slamming into the outfield wall Monday at Petco Park.

Salazar made a spectacular over-the-shoulder catch, but couldn't control his body after the grab. He was replaced by Drew Macias and will be reevaluated Tuesday morning. It was Salazar's first start in left field.

Padres acquired infielder Oscar Salazar from the Orioles for RHP Cla Meredith.

Meredith's star had fallen a long way, but it's still stunning to see the rebuilding Padres part with him for a 31-year-old pinch-hitter. Maybe they think Salazar is a viable major league starter, but if he is, it's at first or third, two positions the Padres should have covered going forward. They could try living with him at second for now with David Eckstein and Edgar Gonzalez sidelined, but he doesn't have the range to turn into a fixture there. NL-only leaguers can consider picking him up for the short term.

Oscar Salazar went 2-for-3 with a homer and a walk Sunday versus the Blue Jays.

Salazar has gone 12-for-31 with a couple of homers in his five weeks with the Orioles. He also produced during a late-season stint last year, hitting .284/.372/.506 in 81 at-bats, so he's worth considering in AL-only leagues. His role would likely expand somewhat if Aubrey Huff or Ty Wigginton is dealt later this month.

Orioles purchased the contract of infielder-outfielder Oscar Salazar from Triple-A Norfolk.

Salazar replaces Cesar Izturis on the roster, but is unlikely to see much action.

The Orioles are expected to purchase the contract of infielder Oscar Salazar before Sunday's game.

The O's lost Felix Pie to a throat injury Saturday night and Cesar Izturis hasn't been placed on the disabled list, so there's a severe need for depth in Baltimore. Salazar will be activated when Izturis is moved to the DL to serve as a backup infielder and outfielder.

Orioles outrighted infielder Oscar Salazar to Triple-A Norfolk.

Salazar cleared waivers after being designated for assignment last week. He's been invited to spring training and has decent odds of seeing some action in Baltimore this season.

Orioles designated infielder Oscar Salazar for assignment.

Salazar finally made it back to the majors last season after a six-year absence and appeared to be in line for a possible bench job, but goes to make room on the 40-man roster for Gregg Zaun.
