Langerhans made a brief appearance with the Angels earlier this season, but offers little value as a defensive replacement. It's possible he'll be invited to spring training with another team as an extra outfielder.

Langerhans had been out of action for the last month with a separated right shoulder. He'll represent depth in the minors.

Ryan Langerhans separated his right shoulder Sunday when he ran into the outfield wall chasing a John Baker double Sunday.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said both Langerhans and Vernon Wells (thumb) were likely headed to the disabled list. Since Torii Hunter will not be back with the club Monday, Peter Bourjos immediately becomes an intriguing fantasy commodity for the coming scoring period.

Ryan Langerhans - OF - Blue Jays

Angels purchased the contract of OF Ryan Langerhans from Triple-A Salt Lake.

He's taking the spot of Torii Hunter, who has been placed on the restricted list. A good defensive outfielder, Langerhans was off to a nice start with Salt Lake, batting .274/.430/.462 with five homers. He doesn't figure to play much.

He should be back to normal in the next day or two. Langerhans, a non-roster invitee, is 2-for-10 this spring in his quest to win a bench spot on the Opening Day roster.

Diamondbacks acquired OF Ryan Langerhans from the Mariners for cash considerations.

He'll report to Triple-A Reno. Langerhans was optioned to the minors in early May after batting .173 with three homers and six RBI over 19 games with the Mariners. The 31-year-old is solid defensively and knows how to take a walk, but he's unlikely to ever be fantasy relevant.

Ryan Langerhans went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts on Thursday, dropping his average to .173.

Langerhans is hitting even worse than Michael Saunders lately, having collected just one RBI over the last three weeks. We're still guessing that Saunders will be sent down when Franklin Gutierrez returns, but if the Mariners think they'll still have plenty of at-bats for him, they could jettison Langerhans instead.

Ryan Langerhans took Ricky Romero deep Tuesday for his third homer of the season.

Langerhans already has as many homers this season as he's had in any season since 2007, and he's had just 20 at-bats. This won't last for long, but if Langerhans keeps hitting, the Mariners will be tempted to slide him over to left after Franklin Gutierrez returns.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge confirmed Thursday that Ryan Langerhans will start ahead of Michael Saunders in center field on Opening Day.

This is a bit of a surprise, as Saunders was considered the favorite to fill in for Franklin Gutierrez. "He really has had a nice camp for us," Wedge said in regards to Langerhans. "Michael will be in center field some, too. But we felt that's where we wanted to start on Opening Day, and we'll go from there." Langerhans is a quality defender, but he has a pathetic .229/.333/.374 career batting line. Needless to say, fantasy owners can look for help elsewhere.
