Pirates released OF Chris Snelling.
Acquired last month from the Padres for cash considerations, Snelling goes to make room for the recently promoted Lastings Milledge. Snelling managed a .275/.390/.424 line before getting the boot. He'll land somewhere, while fantasy owners need to start monitoring Milledge's progress. Fri, Jul 10, 2009 07:10:00 PM

The Pirates have reportedly acquired outfielder Chris Snelling from the Padres in exchange for future considerations.

The 27-year-old has hit .324 with five homers and 29 RBI for Monterrey in the Mexican League in 2009. He'll report to Triple-A Indianapolis initially and could join the Pirates as a reserve at some point this season.

Chris Snelling doubled in three runs and walked Sunday against the Rangers.

Snelling has already made a nice impression in just two days with the Padres, going 2-for-4 with four RBI. Maybe he has a chance of making the team as a reserve despite his late arrival.

Padres signed outfielder Chris Snelling to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Snelling just finished going 3-for-11 with two homers for Australia in the World Baseball Classic. He'll probably open the season in Triple-A, but if he stays healthy, he can help the Padres as a role player.

Free agent Chris Snelling homered twice as Australia defeated Mexico 17-7 in eight innings to win its WBC opener.

Starter Craig Anderson gave up six runs in one-plus innings, but Australia bounced back to score the final 13 runs of the contest, as just one of Mexico's eight pitchers got through his outing unscathed. It's just too bad for Australia that this is no longer a round-robin competition, as it very likely would have played out with it beating South Africa in one of its next two games to advance. As it's set up now, most likely Cuba will defeat Australia and Mexico will top South Africa in the loser's bracket, leaving Australia to play Mexico again for the right to advance.

Phillies sent outfielder Chris Snelling outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Snelling had a double in his lone at-bat since coming off the disabled list on June 2. He knew then that he'd be dropped when Jayson Werth was activated.

Phillies activated outfielder Chris Snelling from the 15-day disabled list.

Snelling will be used as a pinch-hitter, but he'll probably only stick until Jayson Werth comes off the disabled list.

Chris Snelling (knee) went 0-for-2 with a walk in the first game of a rehab assignment with Single-A Clearwater on Thursday.

With Jayson Werth sidelined, it's possible that Snelling could rejoin the Phillies next week. Still, he'd be little more than a pinch-hitter. If he is activated, he'd surely replace T.J. Bohn.

Chris Snelling is still feeling soreness in his inflamed left knee.

Snelling has been out since April 17 with the injury, and there's no telling when he plans on returning.

Phillies placed outfielder Chris Snelling on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 17, with left knee inflammation.

He shouldn't have ran around the bases so quickly on that pinch-hit homer on Tuesday. Then again, three pinch-hitting appearances is a lot longer than he usually lasts between DL stints. T.J. Bohn will take his bench spot.

Chris Snelling hit a solo home run in the Phillies' ninth-inning comeback on Tuesday.

It was Snelling's first hit of the season after being called up due to Shane Victorino's injury. He'll remain a fifth outfielder who occasionally pinch hits, giving him little fantasy value.

Phillies purchased the contract of outfielder Chris Snelling from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Snelling will take over as the Phillies' fifth outfielder with Shane Victorino out, but his main role will be to pinch-hit. He's not going to have any fantasy value.

Phillies agreed to terms with outfielders Chris Snelling on a one-year, $450,000 contract.

The oft-injured Snelling was eligible for arbitration despite having just 221 career major league at-bats. He's getting $60,000 above the major league minimum, which seems about right. He'll battle for a spot on the Phillies' bench in spring training.

Phillies acquired outfielder Chris Snelling from the Devil Rays in exchange for cash considerations.

This makes five organizations in a year for Snelling, who was traded from the Mariners to the Nationals last December, from the Nats to the A's in May and was claimed off waivers by the Rays last month. If the Phillies really want to make the similarly injury-prone Jayson Werth their right fielder, they're going to need all of the additional depth they can get. Snelling would likely outperform Werth versus righties when healthy, but he's simply not someone who can be counted on.

Devil Rays claimed outfielder Chris Snelling off waivers from the Athletics.

It looks like Oakland hoped to have him clear waivers and then stick around as a minor league free agent. The Rays, though, opted to take a chance on the oft-injured 26-year-old. Snelling may never be able to contribute as an outfielder because of his inability to stay healthy, and he doesn't have the power one wants to see from a designated hitter. There's still a chance that he'll put it all together and turn in a quality season as a regular at some point, but he certainly can't be counted on.
