Luke Hudson has announced that he's ending his comeback attempt with the Royals.
The 31-year-old was still feeling pain like a "sharp knife" in Royals' minor league camp this spring after missing most of 2007 and all of 2008 due to shoulder surgery. Assuming he doesn't make a future comeback attempt, Hudson finishes his career with a 17-18 record and a 5.11 ERA. Wed, Apr 1, 2009 09:03:00 PM

Royals re-signed RHP Luke Hudson to a minor league contract and invited him to spring training.

Hudson spent last year rehabbing after shoulder surgery and was dropped from the Royals' roster a month ago. He won't have much of a shot of claiming a job out of spring training. After almost two years off, he'll need to get in some innings at Triple-A.

RHP Luke Hudson has opted to become a free agent rather than accept an assignment to Triple-A Omaha.

Hudson's tenure in the major leagues gives him the right to refuse the Royals' assignment, but the 31-year-old hasn't pitched in about two years because of shoulder and biceps issues. He was 7-6 with a 5.12 ERA for the Royals in 2006.

Royals designated RHP Luke Hudson and LHP Josh Newman for assignment.

Hudson was expected back from shoulder surgery in May or June, but he never threw a pitch in a major or minor league game last season. The Royals could re-sign him to a minor league deal.

Royals transferred RHP Luke Hudson to the 60-day disabled list.

Hudson's rehab from shoulder surgery is not progressing well, and there's no timetable for his return.

Luke Hudson's rehab from shoulder surgery is at a standstill as he's feeling renewed soreness.

Hudson had to exit an extended spring training game after just 13 pitches because of the pain. The Royals anticipate he'll be shut down for at least a week.

Royals placed RHP Luke Hudson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 21, following right shoulder surgery.

The last move they needed to make to get to 25 players. Hudson could begin a 30-day rehab assignment before the end of April. Whether he'll have a role after he's ready to return will depend on how he performs in the minors.

Luke Hudson will remain in Arizona for extended spring training.

Hudson has been out since having shoulder surgery in June, and is still about a week away from throwing. The team thinks he'll be able to return by mid-May.

Luke Hudson said Thursday that he expects to begin the season on the disabled list.

Hudson is coming back from June shoulder surgery. "I know he wants to get ready, but we just feel it's best for him to go slow," pitching coach Bob McClure said. "I've known Luke a long time. I think he's got another eight years at the major-league level in him, and I would hate to see him ruin a career."

The Kansas City Star reports that the Royals and Luke Hudson have avoided salary arbitration by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract worth around $500,000.

Hudson earned $422,000 last season, but made just one start before undergoing shoulder surgery in June. "When he's healthy, he's got some pretty dynamic stuff," general manager Dayton Moore said. "The quality of his pitches is very good. We're counting on him coming in here and competing for a job."

Luke Hudson is expected to undergo shoulder surgery Thursday and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

The Royals list Hudson's injury as biceps tendinitis, but the Kansas City Star speculates that he may have labrum damage.

Dr. Lewis Yocum examined Luke Hudson's injured shoulder and found no tears.

However, Hudson has been ordered to avoid throwing for at least two weeks, which pushes any potential return back until at least mid-June.

Royals placed RHP Luke Hudson on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to May 11, with right biceps tendinitis.

Hudson said he wasn't hurt after his start Thursday, but the Royals felt differently. Brian Bannister will take his place in the rotation.

Even though he says he's healthy, Luke Hudson will go back on the DL with a shoulder problem.

Hudson made his season debut Thursday, giving up five runs in two-plus innings. "I could see something was wrong," manager Buddy Bell said. "He just kept tucking his arm and throwing from side to side. He wasn’t getting any kind of extension." Brian Bannister will be recalled, so it seems Zack Greinke is going to remain in the bullpen.

In his 2007 debut, Luke Hudson was pulled after allowing five runs -- four earned -- and walking four in two-plus innings Thursday against the A's.

Just 23 of his 50 pitches were strikes. The Royals will get some good outings from Hudson, but he'll likely be inconsistent. He's not an option in AL-only leagues right now.
